Official teams and Preview of Arsenal at Leicester

After a slightly slow start to the season, Arsenal have a great chance to go into the international break just two points off the top of the Premier League with a win at newly promoted Leicester City. But Arsene Wenger still has a few injury concerns and a few selection issues to make.

The big team news is that the Frenchman has brought Yaya Sanogo back into the centre forward position to replace the injured Giroud, moving the Chile international Alexis Sanchez back out to the right. Wenger has also dropped Jack Wilshere and stuck with Santi Cazorla on the left, although Podolski, Campbell and Chamberlain are on the bench.

The bench looks a bit light defensively and I am surprised that Hector Bellerin is not on there, but the versatility of Chambers could be the reason for that. It looks like the Gunners are set up to control the ball and push Leicester back.

We certainly have the players to take all three points today, as long as we play to our strengths and do not let the home side get into their stride early on. Hopefully our young French striker can produce the sort of form that saw him score four goals against Benfica in pre-season and fire the Gunners above the spuds. COYG.

    1. so after that firts half, Ozil is the player you decide to have a go at… wow, thats embarrassing. Maybe if sanogo wasnt crap and we had players who want to make runs… and maybe if Mert wanted to defend a bit… but nope, its all Ozil’s fault again even though him and Ramsey are the reason we have so much possession.

  2. Abysmal so far. Why is it that every time Leicester attack they rush and burst forward and cut us to pieces, yet when we attack it’s all the same nonsense of passing through the eye of a needle against two solid banks of four. Ox and Campbell should be on the pitch.

  4. People think sanogo is good when he is compared to donkey giroud. When will wenger realize he is no better ? get campbell in for sa-no-goal and either play him or sanchez a striker

    1. I really don’t know what Wenger sees in him, maybe he’s right, he’s produced many great strikers over the years. But at the moment at least, he is not good enough to start for the first team.

    passes were too slow in the midfield. the lads always slowed down the play, even in counter attacks.

  6. First half performance, we are still far far away. When we attack, there is no fear factor there. This half I only saw sanchez, the rest I don’t know where are there.

  7. Lets be honest all the trouble is coming from that LB position.. Ozil not helping out defensively, Debuchey not reading the game and that is leaving Mertesacker treading water…

    1. you are obviously not watching the match. Alexis has been on the left almost the entire match, and has been helping out Monreal a lot.

    Wenger please sign a goalscoring striker.

  10. No pace in the movements. When you have an opposition like this , what they try to do it compact the midfield always,minimize the space and prevent the game from being stretched. The only way you can score the goals is to stretch the pitch and create spaces for the players. And the only way to stretch is to pass the ball quickly and forward which is absent completely in the first half.

    Our defense looks so shaky. No one else on the bench either. No Depth. Wenger likes to walk a thin rope doesn’t he ?

    Honestly we were lucky to get the first goal. Leicester have been the better team in the first half.

    Ozil is complete waste in the wide area. Cazorla looks lazy/tired i don’t know what.

    Sanogo : Oh what can i say. He has won only one header till now. Lost the ball on so many occasions. And i do not expect him to score either.

    I am trying to find Flamini in the game but he is a complete ghost. Wenger are you getting any hint ?

    We are well into season and still a newly promoted side is making us look like we are the one newly promoted. Pathetic.

  11. People have been saying it’s a good sign Arsenal getting results even while playing badly. BUT that is true only when playing against strong(er) teams. Against weak teams a classy club (like AFC aspires to be) has to be dominant and assertive. I do not see that from this Arsenal site. It’s a shame. We seem weaker than last season.

  12. sanogo needs to come off, Poldi or Campbell on. And then NEW FREAKING STRIKER, so we dont have to rely on SaNOGOALS anymore.

  20. With our defensive performance today, sides like MANC, Chelsea and Liverpool would have already netted in two or three in the first half. We are lucky to be playing against Leicester. I can’t believe i am writing this.

  28. Sanogo scores 4 goals in a friendly and people start thinking he is better than Giroud. I hope this teaches people to not judge a player by one game.

    He may one day become better or even world class but right now Giroud is better.

    Btw- I am not looking forward to going to Stamford bridge and looking at the way Chelsea played against Everton AWAY, I’m not looking forward to them coming to us.

    Seriously, if we don’t sort ourselves defensively and figure out how to score more goals we could have a heavy defeat this season like 8-2

    Im realistic, and dont get me wrong but, sincerely i dont find us winning the EPL this year. there are teams which are far much better than us (just look at the football we play compared to theirs).

  43. Wtf is the giraffe still doing on the pitch. He goofed the Sanchez goal, was offside when he didn’t need to be and gave the the ball away a lot. Please put Campbell on with more than 30 minutes to go. Or Podolski. Pull Santi and put on the Ox so Ozil can move to the middle.

  62. Imagine what we could do if everyone ran like Sanchez when they lost the ball. So refreshing to see someone fight Like he does.

    1. Sanogo needs to play u21 football to get some confidence. If he then outscored akpom (which I doubt) then bring him back into the first team.

      He definitely has something, like giroud he gets in position, but whereas giroud scores 1 in 5, sanogo currently gets 0 in 5.

      All we need is someone who gets 2 in 5 and will are 100% better than with giroud up front. I actually support giroud he is a great option from the bench, but it’s now time to spend £20m on a falcao loan or £50m on cavani or £40m on benzema or £20m on bony. At the very least we need to take sanogo out of the firing line and let a world cup winner with over 100 German caps and almost 50 international goal plus 28 goals in 53 arsenal Starts have a go.

    2. Guys, I said on this forum, that with Giroud and Sanogo, only a deluded gooner would expect Arsenal to win the PL. Now there seems to be another problem….. TACTICS. Wenger seems to be lacking in tactics at times. WHY DOES HE NOT PLAY CAMPBELL FOR GODS SAKE? Wengers one-mindedness is so frustrating…..
