Official teams and preview of Arsenal v Monaco

Arsene Wenger has made two changes to the line up that saw Arsenal take a two goal lead and hold on against Crystal Palace at the weekend and it will be no surprise to most fans that both are in the full back position. So Hector Bellerin comes back in and Kieran Gibbs returns for Monreal.

So Ospina keeps his place in goal ahead of Szczesny and Coquelin continues to be Wenger’s main man in front of the back four. The manager is also sticking with his somewhat experimental and very attacking formation of Cazorla and Ozil in the central areas.

There is plenty of pace, power and goals up front as well with Giroud leading the line and Welbeck and Alexis on either side. We also have a very strong looking bench with the likes of Walcott, Rosicky and even the Ox in case they are needed.

And there is good news from the Monaco team sheet as well, with their star winger Carrasco and one of their best defenders Kurzawa only making the bench after picking up knocks at the weekend. They are also missing the experience of Carvalho at the back and Toulalan in the middle.

  1. This is a very attacking squad against a very defensive team. As long as we don’t get caught out on the breaks we will be okay. This is going to be very interesting.

      1. Ozil really is messing up. If he doesn’t get his head into the game He should come off of Lil Mozart and Santi should be in the center. With our line up we should be bombarding Monaco. I guess we expected them to sit back and let us play our game but they have been really solid at the back and pushed up front too which may have messed up our game plan.

      2. I’ll Happily take 30 million for ozil, 15 mill for wilshere, 18 Mil for ramsey and spend it on a DM and a striker

    3. Mertesacker my god. Against fast teams and quick players, he is only as good as a lamp post.

  2. Im glad welbeck is starting, don’t know why people are calling for theo when welbeck is in form and we are playing a team that PARKS 2 BUSSES. Walcotts attributes are nullified against a team that plays negative football because theres no space for him to run in to.

    And with cazorla as the b2b we need our wingers to be tracking back every opportunity in order to provide more defensive cover.

  9. Lovely line-up. Walcott not taking up defensive responsibilities is costing him dearly. Welbeck will help out Bellerin more than Walcott. Come on boys. Let’s do this.

  39. I think we not using the wings enough. We need to get some speed to the wings and we will get goals. We are not playing great but Monaco ain’t playing well either.

    1. You can’t play Giroud and Welbeck together against good teams. This is exactly what happened against Liverpool – Welbeck doesn’t want to play as a winger and goes centrally, so there’s no one out wide to pass the ball out to and the central midfield is too congested.

  44. Welbeck committed himself in a tackle, not only did he lost the ball but he also lost his man. His mistake was the reason why we conceded. You don’t commit yourself in your own defensive half unless you get either A) ball B) the player, but never miss both.

    1. Saw him when he lost the ball he just stood and watched, rather than chasing… then after he kicked the ball into the box, he was pulling up his socks, when he should’ve been following in. Think he misunderstood the bench shouting at him to pull up his socks….

  47. Absolutely shocking performance. No movement out wide at all. None. This is why you don’t play Welbeck and Giroud together against a half-decent side – they both want to play as central striker and the wing is left completely unoccupied. Welbeck has played well, probably one of our better players, but for the sake of the team he has to be brought off for Walcott or Ox, wide players.

  52. I really thought for a minute we were playing away. No atmosphere. Ozil needs a kick up the f*cking backside seriously, tired of his attitude. Take him off and bring on Rosicky. I would also take Welbeck off and bring on Chamberlain. We need players now that move forward with pace. We also need more movement off the ball. I hope Arsene Wenger blows a casket in that dressing room.

    1. It’s nothing to do with Monaco’s performance, only Kondogbia has really played well for them – and he’s played exceptionally well – it’s about our performance, and our performance has been shockingly bad.

    Sanchez is dropping deep and running at the defense.

    Ozil dropping off and trying to create,

    Cazorla is playing CM and is trying to create,

    Welbeck dropping deep and trying to run at defenders,

    Giroud is a target man and is not running in behind.

    Basically all our attackers are ball players rather than runners in behind..

    Welbeck Sanchez Ozil even sometimes Coq were too closely packed in the midfield.
    I dont understand why welbeck had to move to the midfield despite successfully created dangerous play out the wings in the early minutes.
    Sanchez forgot he is a winger.
    Ozil Giroud Flop. Really poor touches n passes.
    We need cazorla to move up as CAM to create chances.
    Rosicky in for Ozil and play b2b.

  71. Hey, don’t get upset, we are fighting for fourth and getting to the quarter finals would just make us feel strange. This team and this manager has 4th and some mediocre CL performance written all over them. Stepping up would rob us of our good ole’ long lasting total mediocrity and might raise our blood pressure or whatnot.
