Official teams and preview of Arsenal v Stoke City

Arsenal fans are hoping for a hefty does of payback as well as all three points from the visit of our regular tormentors Stoke City today. JUst as their managers and players like to say things like `Arsenal do not like being kicked` we need to be able to say things like `Stoke don’t like fast, accurate passing and quality attacking incision`.

And just as the Gunners have a terrible recent record at the Britannia stadium, the Potters do not like playing on the large and perfect pitch at the Emirates stadium or Highbury, without an away win over Arsenal since 1981. In fact, the Gunners are going for 13 home wins in a row over Stoke.

And Arsene Wenger has been handed a few injury boosts to help him achieve that, although Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott all start from the bench, as does Mathieu Flamini, which means that Francis Coquelin is rewarded for his impressive performances with his third Premier League start on the spin.

Tomas Rosicky also comes in, with either him or Santi Cazorla to provide the keys to unlock a well organised Stoke defence. Oxlade-Chamberlain completes the front three with Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud, giving us plenty of pace, power and hopefully more than enough quality to put the visitors to the sword.

At the other end, no one will be surprised to see that David Ospina keeps his place with our under fire Polish keeper staying on the bench. In front of Ospina, Arsenal have the first choice central defensive pairing of Mertesacker and Koscielny, who will be hoping to stop some of the criticism with a solid showing and a clean sheet.

Ospina
Debuchy, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal
Coquelin, Rosicky, Cazorla
Alexis, Giroud, Chamberlain

subs: Szczesny, Bellerin, Flamini, Ramsey, Ozil, Walcott, Campbell

I am a bit worried about the lack of defensive cover on the bench, so let’s keep our fingers crossed that the injury curse stays away from Arsenal today.

    1. already ready for another bad day at the office…

      poor refereeing decisions….

      physical plays etc…

  1. Lets hope ospina take his chance plzzz brah im tired of a cocky pole thinking he’s guaranteed thisnumber1 spot…also nice to see wenger awarding llayers dor thier performance rather than his favorite. ..3-0 to the arsenalllllllllllllllllll

  2. Pleased to see Ospina keep his place. Sczesney still has a big future but he has to grow up and learn about consequences. Also he has to tell his father to shut up.

  3. Not eager to watch this match and not eager for the rest of the season. nightmare continues, i just hope that somehow the season ends tomorrow and somehow we change for the better next time.

    1. sportlemon.org/……………Enjoy. Imma ready to go in the bar and hope that i dont lose face again bec of Arsenal.

  4. A clean sheet wouldn’t harm Ospina’s chances at all. The 3 (or 4) goals Martinez conceded in the away fixture of this game, certainly made Wenger’s job of dropping him for Szczesny easier.

    Is Chambers injured???

  5. I’ve got a good feeling today and I think Arsenal will win 2-0. But I would like to see that Stoke wins today so that AW will see we need to strenghten the defence and will actually buy someone.

      1. Well im always optimistic and i always want my team to win but I think thats the only way to convince AW to buy someone.

  6. Curious, how did Szczesny even get a cigarette in the dressing room? Surely he didn’t bring it with him considering players aren’t allowed to smoke.

  7. We looking sharp going forward. Hope they keep it up for entire half and kill game off first half (3-0).

  8. who didnt see another injury coming? we get players back, and always lose 2-3 the next match. We will never have a fully fit team. its impossible.

  9. Wtf ref. Blatant hand ball and push on Debuchy and you let Stoke get away with it, players voice concern and then you issue us a card.

Making pretty clear how you going to ref the game.

    1. He was fully knocked out, gash on his head, his leg was in the air all rigid, you see it in boxing.
      Stoke f&ck u!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Im I the only loving le cog in that mid field?..this guy look so comfortable in the ball..hisnpassing is quick he can run I love this guy..I really do

  11. The King and Pires sitting next to one another both saying to each other and themselves just how good Alexis Sanchez is.

  12. Really we been playing a lot with 10 men.

Wenger must reinforce the back 4, CB and recall Jenk.

Who knows how long Debuchy out for.

  13. I don’t know why even commentatorrs hate arsenal. Imagine the first foul on debuchy and now monrael and yet these foolish people saying there were no intents in both incidents. And how because crouch and arnotovich aknowledged their mistakes showed no intent. Even up until now no yellow cards.

  14. if Ox worked on his shooting, he could probably be scoring every match. Always a threat, gets in good position, but always inches away.

  15. That was the first decent first half we’ve had in a while. I think having a strong bench pressured our starters to play better.

  16. Alexis has the heart of a lion and the skin of a camel.
Arsenal need defenders for God sake. We are just unlucky with injuries.
What is it with Stoke and this referee??

  17. Anybody remember flamini break out season when he had a good 1 then leaveat the end of his ccontract? …I really hope this doesn’t happen to le cog…when I watch arsenal I watch our weak area . In this team which ar obviousll cd and cb…in doing this le cog is really impressed me..I might be wrong nut I haven’t seen 1 bk pass from him…im ok with him goimg long at times its just so refreshing to see some takle hard and look forward…

    1. He is really playing well.. Back passing is not negative point.. too much back passing is bad. Flamini does that.. Another advantage with Coq is his close control and long passes. He hasn’t mastered..but he will improve. He plays with full heart. COYC..!!

  18. Stoke are thugs

How many of our players will remain standing is my main concern.

I think one more goal and substitute King Alexis

    1. 2-3 Stoke it is then. Joke! (Hope not).

1 more goal and Alexis Off and then let Ozil have a little play for 30 or so.

  19. Seriously though if our player’s had a bad day, this appalling referring could have cost us points.
