Official teams and preview of Spurs v Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has erred on the side of caution and left the Arsenal and Chile star Alexis Sanchez out of his match day squad altogether, despite the former Barca forward declaring himself willing to play – despite the medical advice that it would be a little bit too soon for him.

Danny Welbeck is properly fit again though, and the boss has brought his other summer signing straight back into the starting XI for the Gunners trip to White Hart Lane for the second North London derby of the season. I am a bit surprised to see that it is the England forward Theo Walcott who misses out though, with club record signing Mesut Ozil keeping his place in a wider role and Santi Cazorla continuing to run things in a central attacking midfield position.

That one change is the only one the manager has made, so Bellerin, Monreal, Ospina and Coquelin all get the chance to keep up their excellent recent form. This is likely to provide a stern test of Arsenal´s new found solidity and balance as well as a test of the character of our players in a vociferous and hostile away game, but that brilliant away performance at Man City is fresh in the memory and no one should be anything but confident.

Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal
Welbeck, Ramsey, Cazorla, Ozil

subs: Szczesny, Gibbs, Gabriel, Flamini, Rosicky, Walcott, Akpom

Go get em you Gunners!!

  7. Sumo says:

No negetivity now boys. Let’s do this. COYG. FOYS.

  8. muda says:

Hope Walcott_welbeck decision will come good. So surprise though.

    1. AlmiR says:

i belive its good decision, Welbeck is taller (set pieces) and his workrate is bigger than Theos, but we all know welbeck wont play whole game, which means walcott will have 20 25 min, which means, everyone getting tired, which means ultimate speed !!!

  9. NY_Gunner says:

    Stay Calm Gooners.
    We got this…

  10. Budd says:

I wonder what the setup is. Ozil on right and Welbeck on left? They have to feature on the flanks otherwise the central ax is going to be weak until Coquelin.
Let’s bring it home boys. Off to the pub. COYG!

  11. ruelando says:

Really wondering how both side will approach it, straight attacks or counter attacks, will be interesting though. whoever wins the middle wins the game and i figure that to be arsenal. So an arsenal victory 3-0

    1. NY_Gunner says:

I think Spurs are come out the blocks at full throttle and try to hit us early on…

  12. gunner4life07 says:

today will be the start of a new era of glory of arsenal

    arsenalllllllllllllll>>>>>>>>>>>spursss shit

  13. Ronny331 says:

Getting nervous now, not helped by the Harry Kane montage just shown on BT sports, cr*p this guys good, Kos/Coquelin get him in your pocket!
Walcott being protected as there wil be a backlash from the 2 finger gesture, he can come on later if needed.
Hope Ozil works hard to track back with Kyle Walker, he’s going to need to.

P.S. people saying 4-0, 3-0 to the Arsenal, really!! I hope your right of course but deluded springs to mind. I can see Spurs scoring at least one and I feel it’s going to be a tight game sperated by one goal or even a draw.

  14. rools says:

Hugo Lloris is saving them every games. he has made more saves than any other keeper this season.
If we score early, we will trash them.

  15. Ronny331 says:

@rools. Good point, lets hope Lloris has an off day!

    1. rools says:

he can have one of his best day. with the goals to shots ratio we have lately, he wont stand a chance.

  16. fishface says:

wellbeck was shit on the left for man ure and he`ll be shit on the left for us.
walcott on the f***ing bench my arse!

    1. CraigZWE says:

      Welbeck in your face, haha

    2. ArseneIsYourDaddy says:

Take your foot out your mouth, fish butt

  17. GoonAR says:

  18. Ronny331 says:

Lamela and Walker v Ozil and Monreal, hope that works !

  19. Jim A says:

    Weird camera angle.

  20. fred cowardly says:

I disagree with Walcott on the bench, but hope we win regardless. With Sanchez out, don’t we really need Walcott?

I hope Walcott is okay. I hope there isn’t a particular reason why he is on the bench. Again, Welbeck just came back from injury so it is a bit weird.

I really want Walcott to score goals today but will be happy with a win with goals by anyone

I’m sure Wenger knows what he is doing (well I hope)

    My prediction hasn’t changed
    3-0 to us

    1. CraigZWE says:

Welbeck tracks back better, I’m happy with that. Bring Theo on if we chase game

  21. Ronny331 says:

5 minutes and Ospina damaged 🙁

  22. Twig says:

My heart skipped a bit when I saw Szczesny warming up!

  23. Ronny331 says:

I think Walcott will have the 2-0 gesture and the fact he got injured against Spurs on his mind. I think Wenger’s protecting him from the s*it he’d get from the Spurs fans.
Hopefully we see him 2nd half.

    1. vijaygunner says:

maybe walcott will come on to test tots tired legs

  24. Twig says:

  25. GoonAR says:

  26. CraigZWE says:

    Ozil whooohooo

  27. Seetsuma says:

Just like that, 1-0. Ozil with a goal in 3 straight matches!

    1. fred cowardly says:

What’s up with Ozil and goals? He isn’t known for goals and now 3 goals in row.

I’m not complaining. I’m glad he is performing better.

      British Sniper

      1. Twig says:

He’s going forward a bit more now… almost like a striker.

  28. Sumo says:

    Mesut Özil.

  29. CraigZWE says:

What a finish, 3 goals in 3 games + 2 assists if in not mistaken.

  30. Ronny331 says:

    Get IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  31. Seetsuma says:

Just like that, 1-0. Ozil with a fantastic goal!

  32. CraigZWE says:

And a shout out to Ospina for 2 WC saves giving and keeping our lead

  33. rools says:

ozil, 1 shot, 1 goal. i am going to call him the sniper

    1. fred cowardly says:

      German Sniper

  34. CraigZWE says:

Let’s keep compact now guys, maintain the lead for 15 minutes, then get another.

  35. Ronny331 says:

How much space on the left for Danny Rose!!

    1. NY_Gunner says:

      Too damn much…

  36. PaddyGooner says:

    Woo hoo

  37. Ronny331 says:

    Can’t stick Michael Owen……..!

    1. gooner100 says:

need a mute button for Owen.

  38. fred cowardly says:

    Ospina is playing well.
    Hope he gets clean sheet

  39. GOONSTER says:

Bellerin or Welbeck are letting Rose have all that space.. Whats going on?

    1. CraigZWE says:

It’s Bellerin, beck is tracking back to cover up to cover up for him.

  40. CraigZWE says:

We giving ball away too easy and Spurs keeping it well.

When we get it let’s just slow down a bit and get In good spaces to receive it.

  41. PaddyGooner says:

Whats this thumb sucking business. And why so much space on the left for spurs? Is it Welbeck?

  42. GunningSoulman says:

Im loving this. Finally there seems to be balance in our le coq

  43. GOONSTER says:

Sort out that RB position, Welbeck is not helping Bellerin out..

  44. rkw says:

not enough composure in the middle need to hold the ball…getting stretched on left side….ramsey is not good enough to start loses ball too much

  45. Mick The Gooner says:

Welbeck is playing too high up, leaving Bellerin exposed. He gets back, but he has to run, he should be further back to start with.

  46. PaddyGooner says:

    Too many corners.

  47. Wayne Barker says:

Refs are trying their best to help us.. Better not screw this up.

  48. CraigZWE says:

Come on guy’s hope they find their feet soon.

  49. rkw says:

not enough composure in the middle need to hold the ball…getting stretched on left side….ramsey is not good enough to start loses ball too much and wellbeck has done hi bit but not match fit

  50. Ronny331 says:

We need to get out quicker too much passing around close to our goal mouth. We need Giroud to become our target man and not be afraid to hit it long to him.
God I wish Ox was fit for this game.
Ospina looking good so far 🙂

  51. CraigZWE says:

Coq playing well, hope too keep another clean sheet.

  52. fred cowardly says:

Another goal at least before half-time
Lets have a 2 or more goal cushion at half time.

  53. Ronny331 says:

27 minutes and Welbeck looks knackered already.

  54. CraigZWE says:

Come on, stop throwing it away.

  55. rkw says:

they are much hungrier than us…

  56. PaddyGooner says:

Defence is holding well but were not finding anyone when it breaks down.

  57. Ronny331 says:

Mertesacker chesting the ball to a Spurs player, nice!!

  58. CraigZWE says:

If we lead 1-0 at half time, Welbeck would gave done his job. Theo will be fresh when Spuds need to push goal. But yeah wish we had Ox to run at em.

  59. GunningSoulman says:

What the £&@£& is Ramsey always doing?

  60. rkw says:

ramsey loses ball all the time with stupid touches he cant control…get rosicky on

  61. PaddyGooner says:

    We’re living dangerously

  62. GOONSTER says:

    Did Poch just say PUTA?

  63. GOONSTER says:

Welbeck is too up the field letting Eriksen and Rose double up on Bellerin…

  64. CraigZWE says:

Spurs are going to see red this match, especially if it stays 1-0. Can’t blame them for hating us, I wouldn’t want to live in anyone’s shadow.

  65. rkw says:

wellbeck has to go at half time its like having 10 men

  66. reddb10 says:

mertesaker is a liability every time he is on the ball its panic stations.

  67. Ronny331 says:

we look sloppy today, welbeck needs to come off.
    Ramsey poor, Cazorla quiet.
    Spurs pressing us well.

    1. ArseneIsYourDaddy says:

Good thing you are not a football manger. Oh wait. …..

  68. Sumo says:

Ospina is spending a lot of time with Szczesny. What the hell was that?

  69. CraigZWE says:

Theo for Welbeck at half time.
Rosiky for Ramsey after 60 min and we good.

  70. PaddyGooner says:

    Wow that was close

  71. Ronny331 says:

@sumo. He looks shaky but holding his own just. First real test for him today.

  72. CraigZWE says:

Lets just get to half time with a lead, we tend to play 2nd half better.

  73. Bigvalbowski says:

Need little Mozart to come on in the 2nd half, frankly Ramsey aint good enough.

  74. rkw says:

not a good time for cazorla to have a bad game

  75. Ronny331 says:

    @craigzwe. Spot on.
We just need the half time whistle and re group, too many of our players looking tired and not 100% on it.

  76. CraigZWE says:

Foul for what, now ref has turned on us.

  77. Wayne Barker says:

Refs have helped us badly, we have been hardly impressive.Spurs are helping us by not scoring. Welbeck and monreal have been the best players

  78. rkw says:

losing the ball all the time … if we go in up at half time we need a change at half time…its not working

  79. CraigZWE says:

This ref now, think we gota see red. Really nothing wrong there. Some speak to this deluded ref fool.

  80. Mick The Gooner says:

Giroud looks hurt, really quite hurt.

  81. PaddyGooner says:

Ospina, Monreal playing very well. Santi and Ramsey not playing well. Need Mozart maybe, or Walcott for some pace to stretch them when we get the ball.

  82. Mick The Gooner says:

We haven’t really looked like conceding from open play, other than when Spurs have lucky deflections. Something is going wrong in our midfield though, there never seems to be someone open to receive the ball.

  83. medvet says:

second half: rosicky and walcott and more passion….

  84. GOONSTER says:

Whenever we play Giroud and Welbeck together we look so disorganized. I know Welbeck created but he is not helping Bellerin out and Eriksen with Rose re doubling up on our RB..

    1. Invincibles49 says:

Are you watching a different game? Welback has helped Bellarin so much as far as i saw. Cazorla and Ozil need to be more involved.

      1. GOONSTER says:

How many times has Rose had free space. All the chances are coming from Eriksen and Rose side.. Bellerin is being left alone.

      2. HA559 says:

Welbeck only helped him in later stage of half. Welbeck is losing possesion and goes into central position too many times, why not stay on the side?

Cazorla hasn’t been good enough today so far.

  85. luvdaguns says:

i dont even know how to explain that first half? feel we got beat in every phase & yet have the lead, though defense played very well, spuds are very motivated to beat us, going to be a nervous second half

  86. Invincibles49 says:

Welbeck has been defensively superb. But we need to improve our play with faster and precise passing. Need to involve Cazorla more in the game. He has been absent till now. Though we are leading we have not been the better team honestly and we will get at most a draw this way! Hope to see more of Arsenal in the second half. I want a win and not a draw. A convincing win! COYG!!!

  87. vijaygunner says:

how the f**k wasn’t that a yellow for bentaleb?! martin atkinson you spurs in disguise?!

  88. AlmiR says:

Cazorla, cmon you can kill them with your feets, dont worry guys, this game is ours, they will attack, and when waltott comes in they will suffer, SUFFER!!!

  89. fred cowardly says:

Walcott should go on for Welbeck. I hope Wenger doesn’t do one of infamous 78th min substitutions. Just stick Walcott on at start of 2nd half (Actually Walcott should have started)

Anyway, at least we are ahead with a clean sheet at halftime.

  90. GOONSTER says:

Welbeck is not a winger… He created the goal but he is just not helping the team… Ramsey is just doing flick ons and fancy footwork while losing the ball. Cazorla has been so quiet…

  91. RSH says:

good defensive display but HORRIBLE passing. Welbeck loses the ball way too much, and the team can’t seem to get Cazorla involved either. We can’t let spuds have so much posession in the 2nd half.

  92. medvet says:

we are making a chelsea game….lol

    1. luvdaguns says:

no doubt! i thought the same thing

  93. Big Gun says:

Monreal has been brilliant but I’m not sure how much more we can take. If we are going to defend, we need to work on quick counter attacking. I feel Rosicky needs to come on and perhaps sub Giroud since he looks injured and push Welbeck up front to run onto through balls.

  94. Ronny331 says:

Giroud carrying a knock, Welbeck unfit, Ozil not energetic. Mert looking shaky, our right side exposed.
1st half we’ve got out of jail 1-0 up.
Lets hope Wenger has a plan to freshen up the second half.
So far they want it much more and have outplayed us.

  95. AlmiR says:

stop complaining, this is derby, we outplayed untd, but they won, i want only 3 points who have bettet stats in the end doesnt matter, 3 POINTS

    1. RSH says:

not a complaint, but we won’t get the 3 points if we continue to park the bus. We are giving the ball away way too cheaply and letting Spuds counter as well. Its only a matter of time. We need at least a few solid spells of possession so we aren’t under pressure for the whole 90 min. Even in the City game we were better at keeping the ball.

    2. GunningSoulman says:

      Spot on mate, spot on.

  96. Invincibles49 says:

Mertasacker almost cost us the equalizer. Time is ripe to bring Gabriel up the pace.

    1. luvdaguns says:

      not in this match,

  97. luvdaguns says:

AFC 37% pocession? whens the last time you see that, Spurs gonna come out motivated, need to not get any second yellows, and weather the storm. if 1-0 at 60″ should be our points

  98. GOONSTER says:

We need Cazorla to get more involved… Ramsey might aswell not be on the field losing every ball he gets..

  99. Invincibles49 says:

Welback has been thrust in as a winger and he is not a winger. So that is why i think he has done a decent job so far. May be i would like to see Rosicky in place of Ramsey and Walcott in place of Welback.

  100. Invincibles49 says:

I think we are caught in two minds whether to attack or sit back and counter. But this being an early start, i expected a bit of shakynes and being more defensive minded. Hopefully we are warmed up now and we can flex our muscles.
