Once upon a time Arsenal had the wow moments – When can we get them back?

Once upon a time

Once upon a time in 1999, I just got back from working at my father’s poultry farm, I had a shower, ate my food and sat down to watch television. I switched on the television and what I saw on the screen, started my love for Arsenal. That evening was a Champions league match evening and my darling club Arsenal was playing that night. I watched Kanu Nwankwo dazzle and hypnotize the Fiorentina defenders. I can’t remember what ended that game but men; I fell in love with Arsenal from that night and saw my first wow moment.

This year will make it 20 years of supporting Arsenal for me and I am so proud of the ‘wow’ moments we shared as team, all those years. My proudest moment was the year that we went unbeaten. I was the proudest supporter that very year and I never stopped tormenting my siblings with our achievements. Several years after that historic achievement, I still torment till date. Although I have a brother who supports Liverpool and he keeps boasting that they will end the season unbeaten and shut me up for good. I know they won’t end the season unbeaten because my guts tell me so.

Apart from the few FA cups we won in the last ten years, I have been searching for another wow moment that I can boast and torment people with, but all to no avail. My darling Arsenal that I fell in love with that night has suddenly become the club that constantly breaks my heart. Arsenal is full of men; why are men this wicked? Constantly breaking our hearts! Why oh why?

I hate to mention Arsene Wenger’s name at any little opportunity but I can’t help but say that our wow moments ended, when Wenger didn’t know when to quit and allow the club move forward. If only Arsenal had woken from 2005, maybe we would have salvaged an already failing club and steered it back to relevance and importance.

Once upon a time, my darling Arsenal had players who could die for the club. We had players who were not scared to take charge, when things seem to go wrong. We had leaders on the football pitch. Today what do we have, people who just fold their hands, stroll round the pitch and seem lost for ideas, at the critical moment that the club needs them.

I give ten thousand salutes to Guendouzi; he has by far been the player who tries to make things happen for Arsenal, when we are down. Although they are times when he outplays himself into trouble, but we can’t deny the fact that he plays with his heart. That is what is needed from every Arsenal player.

A little ambition from the club, the coaches and the players, is all we need for the wow moments to come back to us. Enjoy your day, brothers.

  1. Sylvester , you say”Arsenal have men…..!” I would only agree anatomically in many cases. Most are boys and I do not refer to physical age either!

  2. When Pepe improves and we get a CAM like Fabregas or a CM like Cazorla or Rosicky

Also Aubameyang and Lacazette are capable of “Wow” moments

I don’t care about “Wow” moments. I am happy when we WIN matches. Winning is all I care about

    1. Right now, sad to tell, ANY win is by definition a “wow moment” however drab the performance, which it usually is. I do NOT rate ANY Prem win this eason . Not one! My personal wow moment wil come the moment I learn that Emery has left. Very soon I hope, and believe.

  3. For some weeks now I have stopped to comment here because am sick and tired of this stupidity going on at Arsenal. My wow moment will be when Emery is sacked

  4. @Innit.
Just the three names you listed on got me WOW! Frankly. How I wish we could have photocopy of any. 😄👍👍
My Love for Cazorla, Rosisky, and Fabregas hmm.
    Southampton game awaits!

    1. It wasn’t about them being woww, its about having a system that gives them the platform to bring out the best in them, not coincidence that most players that left under Wenger never replicated those heights, cebalos under Wenger will be an amazing player his off the ball runs is kul,, pepe under Wenger will develop to be a beast, its a pity we can love the system and the players and yet hate the man that created those moments,a player is as good as the coach managing him,Sanchez and mickitarian being perfect examples!

  5. We’ll have wow moments when our youngsters are coached appropriately to grow into the players they clearly show huge talents for. Such as Guendouzi, Saka, Martinelli, Willock, Smith Rowe, etc.

But they are very young now and need proper direction and training. Like Guendouzi. He has signs of a great player but he isn’t ready yet. He has hearts and spirit and that’s something you can’t coach, so I have high hopes for him in the future. But he has a long way, and the way he’s being played under Emery, that’s not good for him. He is a part of the most terrible midfield in the EPL, not because of personnel, but the tactics that Emery plays. So, I just hope Guendouzi doesn’t get dragged into fan hatred bandwagon in the near future and loses his passion for this club. And the same goes for all youngsters.

But I do have hopes for the near future to witness more regular wow moments rather than occasional ones.

  6. I can honestly say I’m soooo fed up with how things are right now! Had the chance to go on Saturday, but I’ve turned it down and have decided to go Christmas shopping instead!
Although I’ll probably make sure I’m back in time for 3pm to watch Soccer Saturday 😂😂 The only Wow moment on there will probably be Paul Merson actually pronouncing a player’s name correctly!

    1. See if you can find us a new manager when you’re shopping Sue and don’t pick the bloke with the beard just because he’s wearing red😎

  7. not until Vinay, Raul and Edu step down. The fish rots in the head first as the phrase goes. These men need marching orders first, then the head coach and those players not interested in playing or winning. No sentiments, no basking on past history, either you perform every single minute of the game of walk out from the door.Discipline required from top to bottom, from the board room to the pitch.Sadly I do not see anything comming forward, sign whoever you wish to, he will turn to trash.
Start fresh with players wanting to play for the club with pride and passion. Select a board with a clear football vision and mission. Let the vision / mission statement be loud and clear from the training ground to the pitch and bench.

  8. The decisions made upstairs went against us as much as anything. Outing D Dein and selling to an American franchise, probably sick of hearing about it but this is what steadily killed our passion inside the club. With how close Wenger got us with young players after moving ground, a proper owner would try to get us over the last hurdle rather than selling off the team a piece at a time. Always felt that the first lot of protesters chose the wrong target.
