One thing Arsenal fans must not do before the Liverpool game

I was speaking to a couple of Spurs fans on Saturday and we were discussing their chances against Man City and basically, they had resigned themselves to losing the game and leaving the Etihad with no points. In fact, they had already calculated in the loss in terms of how many points they would get this season.

Before Chelsea played Liverpool in the Super Cup the impression I got from some quarters and not just their fans, was that the Reds were going to turn the Blues over with ease mainly because of the contrasting results the respective teams enjoyed in their first Premier League games of the season.

I was watching AFTV today and listened to Mr DT talk about the upcoming Liverpool game and he was of the opinion that as long as the players try and do not get a slapping, as they tend to do at Anfield, he will be fine with a loss, well, words to that effect.

I see a pattern developing here.

For some reason, Liverpool and Man City have teams beat before the game is even kicked off and while that is probably the case with most teams, it should never be the case with a top-six rival.

Tottenham proved on Saturday that you can take points off Man City at the Etihad and I do accept that they were lucky but every team gets lucky and the rub of the green at some time but all that matters is the points distribution at the end of the game.

In 120 minutes against Liverpool, Chelsea held their own in a game they were expected to get stuffed in and they only lost because of penalties.

Thinking you are beaten before the game even kicks off is madness in my opinion, yes Liverpool are  favourites but so what, we are a top-six side and on our day can beat any of our closest rivals.

I am not deluding myself here, I accept the gulf that exists between Arsenal and Liverpool but I have seen too many times down the years when a so-called favoured big team loses to another so-called inferior top team for me to dismiss Arsenal’s chances.

Never underestimate any top six-team and that includes when they visit us at the Emirates and never think we are beaten just because our opponents are currently better than us.

  1. I’m excited to see how both teams would perform, given that this is an upgraded Arsenal squad. I think Liverpool will be wary of us, we need to be clinical in front of goal because that’s the only way we can get anything out of it. That being said, I hope Emery doesn’t start Nelson in place of Pepe.
Right from last season, I was pointing out how he’s yet to be convincing, hell he couldn’t even get into Hoffenhiam’s first eleven. The fans who didn’t bother following his games got carried away by the fact that he had a few goals and suddenly started saying he’s the perfect replacement we need on the wings. The boy is talented no doubt, but he’s not putting efforts in, he’s hasn’t done enough to convince me while he was in Germany, hell in his first two games for Arsenal, he hasn’t done anything to convince me either.
Willock already ditched him behind, Nelson seems he ain’t growing his game at all.
Please don’t come with the he’s a midfielder búllshît, he’s yet to do anything to warrant a start against Liverpool.
The boy needs to go on loan to an EPL team, he’s not ready to be a starter for Arsenal, I’ve been saying it for over a season now.
Hopefully, he gets better now that he’s here, and he takes his chances.
Only thing is I don’t sew him stepping up as Sancho or Odoi.

Nice game from the team overall this past weekend, Ceballos doesn’t look like Ramsey’s replacement, he’s more technical than Ramsey, he’s Cazorla’s replacement we’ve been crying for, the simple things Ramsey couldn’t do, that Cazorla did is the same thing Ceballos did against Burnley, I don’t see why people keep comparing him to Ramsey when he doesn’t hold on the ball for too long, he doesn’t try flicks, he doesn’t leave the other midfielders exposed, he did the exact thing Cazorla did when he played alongside Coq.
Him alongside Guendouzi and Willock will be a more stronger as time goes, hopefully Xhaka doesn’t walk back into the team against Liverpool

  2. Exactly what have been saying about Nelson, the boy is not as good as Sancho and odoi,he’s overhyped and yet someone keeps saying he will play better as a midfielder a position he’s never played before in his life.Wilcok is much better than him,I will even try martinelli instead, I really don’t know what you call a winger who can dribble he’s always looking to make the easy pass. The only advantage he have is that he’s our academy player, the little have seen from Saka I believe if he’s given the chance he will be better than Nelson.Ademola lukman of Everton went to Germany in January and he performed better than Nelson, I just hope emery will not start him ahead of pepe at an field.

    1. Nelson is a very good player but hasn’t been a solution to our RW problems, he’s played 2 games and hasn’t impressed so I reckon we give Martinelli his chance against Liverpool.

He has to remind Southgate that England has 3 deadly young wingers and not just 2. I felt very bad when he was overlooked, both Sancho and Odoi got promoted and not him.

Honestly I wish we had either of Sancho or Odoi in the Arsenal team instead…

  3. Playing at Anfield will be extremely tough. I will be happy if we come out with a draw. It will be a hard fought match

  4. I believe the big game that Arsenal will play at Liverpool on Saturday in the PL is not the kind of big game that Emery will do a try and error Gunners selection starting XI and bench for the match. This is because Arsenal 2 match winning run in the PL that they have attained should be sustained and extended to 3 match winning run at Liverpool unfailingly is at stake and MUST never be gambled with with a try and error Arsenal starting XI team and bench to play the match by Emery. But he should be precise in his Arsenal starting XI making for the match and be sure at doing it correctly. So that at the end of the match, Arsenal will the cause to be joyful and glad for been successful in collecting all the 3 points at stake in the match.

Therefore, Emery MUST make the starts and bench that will give Arsenal the chance to for the first time in the PL to beat a Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team.

For Arsenal to achieve this feast, I think if Emery start a back-three defence which essentially comprised a five-man defense-line with the 2 full-backs anchoring to play as full-back-wing-back defending and going forward occasionally to give support to the midfielders and the strikers, but tracking back quickly to defend. But in this wise, will Monreal be suitable to start the match as a left full-back-wing-back as his lack of pace could turnout to be harmful to Arsenal in the game if Emery chose to play a back-three for the match and start Monreal in it?

    Leno;
    ….Luiz Chambers Sokratis….
    AMN……………………………..Kolasinac
    Guandouzi….Ceballos….Willock
    …..Lacazette……Aubameyang….

.i think my above Arsenal starting XI should be the correct starts Emery should have starting the Liverpool big game in my own take for the match.

    1. The same thing am playing that doesn’t happen. What happened to you arsenal fans? Why such a negative mind set of defensive footballing? So we should sacrifice our midfielders for defensive wingers? No way. We better loose playing to win than loose or even draw defending for 90 minutes. I hate defensive minded approach by all means and that should come nowhere near Arsenal. If in any case Emery does play with 7 defensive minded players, I will wish for a loss so that he can once and for all abolish that stupid backward footballing idea. It’s not worth it. It means we respect our opponents so much and we’ve no confidence with ourselves. We can’t always keep playing defensive football against big teams and hoping for draws. Time will come in cup games where it’s a lose or win against the best. So what will we do? We bought Liuz so as he can defend. Pepe so as he can score. Caballos to attack. That’s why it’s a team of defenders, attackers and strikers and all these should coordinate and play their roles. Defensive and offensive teamwork coordination. However, if we start sacrifing one of these for the other then it shows we don’t trust our players in those respective positions.
Lastly, I wish Nelson, Xhaka and Willock don’t start in this game. I would prefer a Gud and Toroira partnership with caballos as no 10 with Auba and pepe franking Lacazette. Ozil also should come in from the bench to replace Guosdozzi(depending on how the situation is) and drop caballos to no.8 as ozil assume the no.10 bcz I believe Toroira and Caballos partnership is solid enough to give ozil the freedom to push our attack blazing

    2. Replace Willock with Pepe and swap position with Auba. Livfools are fast and need pace upfront because our aged back will be exposed.

  6. Set up to counter liverpool as they will come at us no doubt. Start with Auba Laca Pepe to get at liverpool’s defence to try and peg them back abit. Cabellos is the perfect player for a counter attack system along with Luiz from the quick switch from defence to attack… Auba & Pepe vs Trent & Rob. What an interesting battle that will be done the wings.

Actually looking forward to this game regardless of the result. I think we all need to just sit back and take a look at where we are at as we know liverpool are stronger but we can show what this new Arsenal can be about. Liverpool may show us abit more respect if we start with the amazing front 3 we have. Then their front 3 is awesome also. Draw or liverpool just nick it as their at home.

  7. One thing Arsenal fans should not do is undermine a young player’s confidence by being over-critical about performances. I think any team in the league is capable of taking points off Liverpool abd City with well drilled tactics and a fair amount of self belief. To those who insist Nelson isn’t up to scratch, I think he will improve with game time. The young players would improve massively if the fans afforded them the time and freedom to make mistakes.

  8. Tbh I’m just excited and eager to see how the boys react to their first real test. There could be a surprise waiting for everyone in that game, we could very well win it you know!

  9. I think arsenal should play either nelson or wilock at anfield. On my opinion, emery play either 4.2.3.1 or 4.3.3. ( nile, luiz, skrot, moreal as back 4) xaka & torreira as 2 defensive midfielders) auba, cabellos & pepe & finally lacaz as main striker. Back 4( camb, luiz, skr, moreal.) 3 midf ( xhaka cebellos & toreirra) front 3( auba lw, laca mstr, pepe rw)

  10. Well,I think our game against liverpool this saturday in anfield will be so really perfect decision for us to do special think in front of this whole world after we had faced some difficulties on this english top flight specially against english top teams,so we have to be perfect strength on this match because we need to show some respect to our new boys and welcome them with both strongest and possiblity of winning with our current strugglers.AND ALL I NEED FROM EMERY IS TO START BOTH OUR RECORD SIGNING AND YOUNG SPANIARD PLAY MAKER WHO I LOVE TO BE PERMANENTLY SIGNED TO ARSENAL THIS SEASON.

  11. I hardly comment on this platform but I have been reading post from different writers who are passionate about this club. First is to put sentiment apart,Mbappe even Bernd Leno were not given endless opportunities before they grabbed the chance to be a first team player as a teenager. Nelson is no where near the quality needed to be a first team player in Arsenal. We all are applauding Ceballos for his qualities, dont forget he’s not a first team player in Madrid, that is the kind of bench mark put place in Madrid.Every players have their qualities that they bring to the team, one player strength might be the other weakness but I want to see in the team,is doggedness, fight, respect and honor that they have the privilege to represent millions of hard Arsenal fans on each match.

  12. I don’t think that the defense is ready for Liverpool. Judging by the last two games, I’d say it’s gonna be a narrow win for the scousers with both teams scoring. Say, Liverpool 2 Arsenal 1.

  13. Maybe this is just a Tottenham thing.any premier league team can take points off of each other
Leicester won the league a few years ago did they think like that???
Sorry but what a pointless article.
This is arsenal!!!we can beat anyone on our day Bayern,Madrid,Milan,Barcelona Man U Man City and Liverpool?
How many times has Liverpool won the premier league since it was formed? Oh yeah 00000 I couldn’t call myself an arsenal fan if I didn’t truly believe we could beat any team on our day.
We could be 4-0 down at half time,or get slapped 8-2 but that still doesn’t me we can’t beat them .
    Typical spurs loser mentality.
With the positive feeling at Arsenal we can and have always been able to beat any team on our day
