Admittedly Viktor Gyökeres did not get off to the best of starts on his Premier League debut against Manchester United but he is already a proven goalscorer.
Before he joined the Gunners for £63.5 million, he scored 39 goals last season for Sporting Lisbon, helping them to their 21st Portuguese top-flight title.
However, the Swede, who was subbed off in the second half, struggled to make a firm impact at Old Trafford as Arsenal went on to win 1-0 after 90 minutes.
Gyökeres adjusting to Premier League life
Overall, he failed to take a shot all game and only completed four passes with a pass rate of 44.4 percent, which was far from convincing. At the same time, he has only just commenced life in an Arsenal shirt and the Premier League is considered the toughest division in world football. It will take time for him to adjust.
Gyökeres will also need to adapt to Mikel Arteta’s tactics, as well as his teammates adjusting to his style of play. He may be forced to tweak elements of his game, especially with English football being much tighter defensively compared to Portugal.

Signs of promise for the Super Swede
Even though he did not find the net against Manchester United, Gyökeres did score just over a week ago against Spanish side Athletic Club. His close-range header showed the power and presence he can bring to Arsenal’s attack this season.
Not all great goalscorers in Arsenal’s history started quickly. For example, Dennis Bergkamp took six games to score for Arsene Wenger’s side in 1995 before going on to become the club’s tenth all-time top scorer with 120 goals.
If Gyökeres follows a similar path, Arsenal fans will have plenty to look forward to. The Swede may take time to settle, but his track record suggests that once he finds his rhythm, he could become a vital part of Arsenal’s title charge.
A case of keeping the faith Gooners?

The whole team did not perform. He was starved of service. So he is not to blame.
Let’s hope the team clicks and gel on time
He will do just fine ,he was bought in to score goals and at a reasonable fee TBF .
If he score 20 goals in his first season then cannot complain .
But the nonsense comparing him to Haaland and salah ,best leave that till the end of the season and let him play and go from there .
Would like to see Havertz play behind him think that could bring out the best in him or both .
“cannot complain”, that is hilarious! You really do have zero self awareness!
Any new conspiracy theories today? Give me a good one!
Mr 4th account now pretending to be a female, you’ve been banned 3 times for good reason surprised admin haven’t picked up yet that your deranged in the head .
Actually I’m glad you’re back on as your a someone to take the pIss out of .
Complete nut job buddy .
See you haven’t responded to the Odegaard article(Thirdman ,Lucy ,Jen )whatever name you’re going with now ,nutter .
Last I saw, you didn’t respond once I called out your nonsense, but I’ll go back and check it out.
That’s the conspiracy you’re still running with. I am multiple people apparently. If they all did exist on here, and were all banned, I wonder what for?
I mean it couldn’t be because of wild conspiracy theories, or personal abuse, because that wouldn’t explain how you’re not banned?
On a serious note, are you an adult?
I just checked the article and you didn’t respond once I started talking facts. And I know how you hate those!
Yet more fake news from you!
Like I said “nut job “
Like I said, you either do not respond or you resort to abuse when called out on your nonsense.
Amazing you haven’t been banned yet!
Yet you’ve been banned 3 times ✊and then pretend you’re a different person, maybe just maybe I’m not the problem.
Deranged in the head Lad .
Funny AF and very cringe like weirdo.
The whole team is to blame for the performance. There should be no scapegoat! Gyokeres was starved of service. Hopefully as the season progresses, performances will improve
I agree, although I would exempt Raya who, although not perfect, certainly had to do, and did, the necessary to keep Arsenal ahead.
Only 37 games to go.
Scapegoat – a person who is blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others,
……..We won at Old Trafford lol !!!
Spot on, Aran.
That was just one game against a sleeping giant, maybe the gaffer was more interested of leaving the theater of dream without defeat.
Arsenal must now goes back to basic, starts games off at break neck speed where we hit the opposition hard and early.
Playing quick interchanges and moving the ball forward is right up Zubimendi street, Gyokers strive off catching the opposition flat footed with defense on their bicycle back pedaling, that’s how he scores most of his goals in open play.
Arsenal got the players now to start games on our front foot and punish teams who venture out, the gaffer must release the hand brake on Saturday in preparation for the big one in a week later.
Nah he was interested in leaving with a win because ….we left with a win lol
It’s his first competitive game for us, in a very tough away game, and he had zero service. No one should have any concerns.
He wont score more than 8 goals and all be against the weaker teams pathetic signing if Arsenal had any ambitions to win the prem and champions league would have gone all out for Isaak regardless of the price proven goal scorer who could get us across the line now will not win anything again this season Arteta will have to go!
Nobody knows how many goals Gyokeres will score though. I think he’ll be a success and, if so, that means more than 8 goals across a season – after all, that’s little better than “Jesus territory.”
As to Isak, I doubt any club will buy him “regardless of price”. According to reports, Newcastle wants a huge fee. Liverpool had an offer of £110m refused point-blank a while ago so the chances of Arsenal going for him at, what, £135m+ were almost non-existent I would think.
You hit the bulls eye with the 8 goals thing! If only Ode has fed him with passes, he would have scored. Is Mikel trying to starve him of goals as his eyes were on Sesko? Only Mikel and the other 9 outfield players can answer that. To preserve the legacy of Gabby J? Nevertheless will take the 1-0 win at OT, but a new Spurs and refreshed City, we would not leave with the 3 points.
Hope Mikel has seen the writing on the wall.
Are you suggesting that Arteta would deliberately sabotage this team and by default his own positiion within the club just to prove a point?
Why was Gyoks starved of service? Any explanation?
Answering a question with another question…that’s a typical cop out (especially from someone with usually so much to say)
To answer your question…I have absolutely no idea, but I’m sure it has nothing to do with Arteta’s preference for Sesko or Gabriel Jesus.
Will know the answers as the days go by. Make no mistake Gykos is a top notch striker and will do well with any scraps he gets. Sesko wanted a release clause with AFC, but none with MU. Some food for thought.
Stop with this embarrassing comment buddy 😠
It’s morphed to become The Shoba Conspiracy Theory Show now
I’ve noticed that it’s difficult to get any sense from TSRS Sue😂.
Like it made no sense to hire Noni when Eze was available with a few quid more. Like it made no sense to hire Sterling and Willian too. Like it made no sense to hire a CFC discard for 65M. Like it made no sense to hire Gabby J for 45M when Halaand was available for 55M.
What were the chances that Haaland would come to Arsenal over City?
Zero, the point to note is that MC hired a serial goal scorer for a few quid more that what we paid for an 8 goal/season wonder. Mikel was hoodwinked, while Pep showed his acumen for hiring the right talent at the right cost. It is good to see Berta correcting that weakness of Mikel/AFC.
I could probably raise the funds to buy a Porsche but unfortunately I couldn’t afford to maintain it
Moving back to Haaland, Arsenal could afford to buy him but could they justify paying him £27m annually over the length of his contract?
Every man and his dog knows that Guardiola is a superior manager and he manages a currently more consistently successful club in recent years.
Haaland has been given a 9 year contract. That is an awful lot of money – something in the order of £260m according to the Mirror during his time at City. Not to be sneezed at. Just hope he doesn’t do his ACL…..
You do Know what Haaland earns don’t you? And I mean right from when he joined City.
Much less than Kai and Gab J earns combined, MC has a single player outdoing two of ours every single season.you may judge who is the boss and who is the apprentice
500 pounds he scores more then 8 goals
I think your money is safe.
I just hope the lad turns a deaf ear to all the meaningless noises coming from those Arsenal haters
Cant count him out after one game. Let the record show I was team Sesko if this goes south 😅
The whole players were poor on the day except Raya, and that says a lot. There is no cause for alarm here
Give the guy a break. Firstly he hasn’t had a proper preseason, he didn’t train with Sporting. He got Zero service and help from his team mates. To me he looked nervous and not fully fit. BUT he didn’t do as bad as some are making out. He showed some signs of real strength and held the ball up pretty well, when he did get it. He fluffed two chances up to shoot but thats just rustyness. We probably won’t see the best of him until after the international break. Don’t make idiotic statements on his first appearance. Remember our greatest striker took 7 games to score his first goal. How many of you would have dropped him after 3 or 4 games? If you had been the armchair manager
Spot on Reggie, writing off a player in his first game is unwitting! and ridiculous.
I’m upbeat about the prospect of Gyok scoring up to 20 goals this season.
If doesn’t happen, then maybe should bring in a new manger with fresh ideas about creativity and goal scoring.
Both your sentences are true.
I posted in another thread that the service was nonexistent, this is more about what style of play we will adopt against teams. If we are going to bog down team like we did then I think KH will be more suited. However if we are going free flowing fast paced the VG is the man(heavy metal style)
I believe in some matches, we can switch to while attacking. 442 and adjust shape back to 4121, that we currently use in the same match while defending. if havertz or merino alongside odegard, and rice as a DM. we can be very unpredictable. Havertz/merino can either go high as a second striker or drop back to the midfield. In fact i believe we would be very effective this way. whenever the 8 goes up calafiori, MLS or even Timber can play the Inverted wingback quite well. that a lot of variant in the same. and we actually have the players to do this effectively.
We really need Eze, he is such a versatile attacking player and given the latest Havertz disaster, we desperately need that, do not let him get wasted at the Spuds.
I seem to remember that a certain Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry starting their Arsenal careers slowly.
I wonder how their career’s ended up, can anyone out there remember. 🤦♂️😂👍
