Partey v PSG

Opinion: Thomas Partey charges are bigger than tribalism

You would think after the deaths of Diego Jota and André Silva, some would have learnt that while football is a beautiful game… it is just that… a game.
The next day though, something else happened, far more serious than which sports team a person supports.
Well, it should have been anyway.

After a three-year investigation, Thomas Partey was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
That means one of two things. Between 2021 and 2022, a 32-year-old man subjected three women to one of the worst ordeals imaginable.
Or, the midfielder is being falsely accused of one of the sickest crimes you can name.
Either scenario impacts someone for the rest of their life, as well as their family.

Yet within hours, rivals of Arsenal were using this horrific situation as a source of banter, as if it were the equivalent of the Gunners missing a penalty.
Some Gooners used it as material to question the integrity of Mikel Arteta – why would the Spaniard be open to offering a contract extension, knowing the CPS were reviewing evidence?
Then there are those who feel the only way to defend our current manager is to discredit what came before him.
Apparently, Tony Adams being an alcoholic or Szczęsny lighting up a cigarette in the showers is comparable to sexual abuse.

I do not know which is sicker.
Having worked with children and adults who have gone through this unimaginable ordeal, I can tell you how offensive and ignorant it is to trivialise something so serious by even mentioning something as irrelevant and inconsequential as football.

Football is not the lens for this conversation

If you are a Spurs fan looking for banter, a supporter who does not rate the current regime at the Emirates, or someone wanting to take cheap shots at Mr Wenger, there is so much you can use as a stick to beat Arsenal with.
Talk about 22 years without a title, question the ambition of our owners, debate our players, but to use the accusation of rape?

Whether it is the alleged victim or the alleged perpetrator, imagine if that were your daughter, son, niece, nephew, cousin, mum or dad going through that, only for strangers to make it all about tribalism and point scoring.

I have literally read on social media (admittedly never the best place to go for common sense and empathy) comparisons between clubs about their legal histories.
Not goals, assists or medals, but who has had more players past or present facing criminal charges.
Am I meant to believe seriously that some grown adults think the colour of a shirt determines if or what crimes a person commits?

For years, I have written about how the UK has a serious issue with grown men and women who think that inside their football bubble, they can behave however they want.
If someone else were facing the same charges that Thomas Partey is dealing with, you would not say that is because they work at Asda, this would never happen at Tesco.
You would not expect customers of Sainsbury’s to get online and say, “Typical Asda.”
That all sounds immature, does it not?

Arsenal’s legal handling was tightly bound

A bit like when I had to educate some of my peers who did not believe racism had ever occurred at Highbury or the Emirates.
Or that they had never heard a single Gooner at any ground sing an abusive song.
These are decent people who are not meaning to be disrespectful or ignorant. They have simply been brought up to believe that the definition of being a supporter means never saying anything negative about the squad, the fans or the stadium.
Arsenal were founded in 1886, so by law of averages, there will have been players and supporters who crossed the line.

I will point out when our manager or owner does something wrong, but in terms of Partey, they are beyond reproach.
They have nothing to answer for and do not need to justify their actions.
That is because this situation is bigger than Arsenal and football.
Even if Mikel Arteta and the Kroenke family wanted to get involved, there is very little they could do.

A football club is no different from any company. It is a business with various departments.
The moment Thomas Partey first informed his employers of a police investigation, lawyers would have been contacted and advised Arsenal every step of the way since.
Those questioning Mikel Arteta’s moral compass need to understand how little involvement the Spaniard would have had regarding Partey.
The 43-year-old is just an employee who takes direction from those above.

It is no different to any organisation. You may have a manager in charge of your daily workplace, but unless it is directly a safeguarding issue concerning who you work with, a manager cannot send you home based on gossip about what you did on your weekend off.

Arsenal’s legal position was to not treat the player any differently until he had been charged.
Firstly, because that is a person’s legal right, but more importantly, a suspect should not be named publicly if not charged.
So while the Gunners could have, in theory, paid Partey not to play (as long as he was still allowed to train with the first team), it would have invited journalists to ask, “Where is our defensive midfielder?”
That would only increase the speculation already circulating on social media.

Even now, the Metropolitan Police are pleading with the public not to spread false narratives, as it could impact the case.
So by Arsenal acting as normal, they have not compromised anything.

Also, what if the Ghanaian had insisted he was innocent, but had been made to sit at home, isolated from his peers, only for the allegations to turn out to be false?

Would that have been morally correct?

Thomas Partey has cooperated with the police investigation, who clearly feel they have enough evidence for a conviction.
His lawyer has stated that his client “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name”.

He deserves that right.
If guilty, though, he does not belong in society and has no legacy in North London.

Football is a beautiful game. But it is just that… a game.

Your thoughts welcome in the comments.

  1. Excellent and thoughtful article, no matter who’s telling the truth, people have been hurt and will continue to be. Sadly many football fans (of all clubs) act with malice and no class when bringing such issues into conversation (usually the same fans that belch commands with little tactical acumen), and they certainly don’t care for any victims if they’re using things like this as banter or put downs.
Again, a very well written, and no doubt difficult, article to write, you stayed honest, diplomatic and didn’t come to any brash conclusions either way, thats for the courts.
One of the best articles I’ve read in a while 👌🏼

  2. “Football is not the lens for this conversation”

I think that suffices. Life is no sport.

  3. Good article DS.

Regarding the Tony Adams and Szczesny part in the article, are you going on what was posted on a thread on JA ?

  4. Imo if you think this a one of then you are mistaken. It is a high profile player which had made headlines.
Unfortunately and speaking as a male, society as a whole is not a kind place for women.
The first place to start is at home. To teach our children the basics of life and be morally obligated to take responsibility of what is right and what is wrong.
The CPS would not proceed if they don’t think they have enough evidence to see this through. Why.. because they haven’t the resources or monies to waste on maybe cases so that in it self tells you there is more to come.
Why hasn’t the charges been quicker coming forward as it has been years not months.
Good lawyers and a bucket full of money to delay and hope it goes away.
This ranges over a few different countries and people scared to come forward. Well a big well done to the women to come forward and state the facts. Courage they have shown to do this and us a the general public should support them to the end in seeing justice done.
Forget about if he is or was our former player and how good he was for us last season, which I don’t believe he was. If found guilty which I do hope he is then throw away the key, make him an example and leave him to rot.
    Onwards and upwards

    1. Your hoping he is guilty shows your prejudice towards a player you never appreciated and disliked. Saying you think he is guilty would have at least disguised your bias towards him. I hope he the outcome shames you Allanball08.

      1. Oh my
I believe in justice but unfortunately if you throw large amounts of cash at it then the out come can become tainted
On what little know about the case there is.more then a hint of foul play and the alleged crimes that have taken place is for a serial and not a.one.off , with that I am not ashamed to admit if found guilty , the key should be thrown away.
Shame.on you and bow your head in shame should he be found guilty after inflicting mental and physical
Pain on the ones that came forward and the one who couldn’t come forward
        Ps
If.you.think hanging on to a.player who seldom move the ball forward a d was great at side to side and backwards passing, great at low blocks but. Would transcend to a high press because he didn’t have the legs to get back then me and you are watching a different game
I wish him all the best in his quest to.clear his name but if found guilty he deserves everything he gets

    2. Unfortunately, and I speak as a male, society as a whole is not kind to men.
You are trying to judge a case when you clearly haven’t got the facts. Rephrasing allegations as facts is really quite inappropriate.
Clearly, no-one should support any criminal acts especially such serious ones as those alleged. However, they remain allegations at this time. Justice is to allow for due process to take place if we are all to live in a fair society.

      1. I completely agree with you David and I am the father of two wonderful daughters.
I think AlanBall08 has already made his mind up, which is unfortunate to say the least.
The example of Mendy should be taken into account and the reaction of city115 cost them millions, yet we still don’t know the identity of those who t ruined his life.

        1. Ken1945,

That’s my thoughts exactly. When these women come forward and accuse said people of these disgusting acts, their anonymity is rightly protected.

And if the said person is found to be guilty of these acts, then throw the book at them by all means.

But if the allegations are proved to be totally false, then the accusers should lose any rights to their anonymity. To wrongly accuse people in this way is outrageous, and therefore the accusers should then feel the full force of the law.

Although as I said earlier, if said person is guilty then deal with them with the full force of the law also.

          1. David , Ken
I never want to throw anyone under the bus unless there is evidence.
I have talked and followed this case for years
The CPS would not commit to proceedings if they never had a strong
mentioned previously, they don’t have the monies and resources to cases o. That they lose and cost them a shed load of money they don’t have.
I have heard the matters of which I can’t disclose and any other walk of life he would have been charged a long time
ago but good lawyers delayed this.
I don’t personally don’t have an agenda agai.st him but what I have heard and what will be disclosed no moral person will say what happened is correct
I understand There is a thin line between yes, no, right and wrong,
You will be surprised when it come in the public demain who has said no
I apologises if I have offended anyone in my the the way I have come across a d what ever the verdict I want change.my mind.
            Ps
It has always been and always will be the best lawyers will find a way.
It’s not about the law but knowing the law
            Onwards and upwards

      2. Society as a whole is not kind to men?
        Please elaborate

It is highly unlikely or rare that a woman will do what Partey is alleged to have done.

Imagine being Giselle Pelicot or Sara Everard. There are countless numbers of women who are just numbers in the system who are victims of domestic abuse, or the young vulnerable girls who end up being passed around for sex.

How about the creep Harvey Weinstein and as just reported, Greg Wallace who “recognises that some of my humour and language at times was inappropriate” It seems that dropping his trousers was just banter.

  5. You’re hoping he is found guilty? Clap for yourself. Your comment sound like you hate Partey. You even said he wasn’t good for us last season.

    1. Ola
I am saying if found guilty which i believe he is and I am not disclosing how I know but I possibly might know more then you then I wouldn’t clap me but the women who stood up to him should be clapped for the courage they have shown to have seen this through.
Imo if thought he was OK but not a world beater like some have said but that is not the conversation being had

  6. Something that’s been puzzlingly me, is why is he being prosecuted here in the UK, when the offences happened in Spain ? Surely he should be extradited to Spain to face trial ?

    1. I believe he skipped there to come here the same person was allegedly assaulted there and here with another one/s here as well
I am sure all of it will come.out in the wash when it gets going

  7. A well articulated article, it softens my suspicions of the clubs motives and actions, or lack thereof.

  8. Arteta still stated he wanted him to stay and he was offered a new deal, regardless of the outcome. For RSH questioning Arteta’s moral compass, I completely agree with him.

The timing was all very bizarre – days after his contract ended. And for those saying it’s nothing to do with us as he’s no longer our player is laughable (see above!). You’re telling me if this was another club our fanbase would stay silent, no chanting, nothing. Would we hell!! We’d beat them with this stick just as much as what lies ahead for us in the coming season.

This just proves money speaks volumes. Look at how footballers get away with everything (David Goodwillie and Joey Barton just to name a couple). As a woman I am disgusted and appalled by my club and manager for even thinking of offering a new deal.

  9. I think that there are questions, away from the actual charges which are a separate issue obviously, that will need to be asked and answered at some stage about who knew what, and when, and any action, or lack of it, taken.

  10. ” . . . Firstly, because that is a person’s legal right, but more importantly, a suspect should not be named publicly if not charged.” AS LIFTED FROM THIS STORY.
But Partey has been named publicly for a long time with news circling the target.
    Justice?

You see an underage Lamine Yamal moving around with that lady almost double his age . . . What happens?
    Nothing.
    As usual.

    Let’s look at two sceneria:
    1. Partey is guilty (which the media would love, mostly)
    2. He isn’t.

    Possibility 1:
Partey stands a good chance of losing more than half his money, endorsements & deals, pay fines, and bag a prison term as crowning achievement for his wonderful effort.

    Scene 2:
    Not guilty.
    Case dismissed.
    Just like that.
All that likely will happen is the female folks get more popular. Increased social media influence and more money! We have seen that style many times.
So, yes, there is an incentive for a certain group to dig for resources.
In this digital age; maybe they are mining cryptocurrency with this largely efficient strategy.

I don’t vouch for partey’s innocence; I do not claim the accusers were not plundered – just seeking a level playing ground.
Even in football . . . players dive and attempt theatre tricks to gain cheap advantage. And it is even so in the outside world.
Just like VAR check – they are going to court . . . Is the court infallible?
A notable judge once said something like:
“during a case; the (two) parties (most of the time) know the truth – it is usually the jury that is on trial”.

Haven’t we seen cases where people were found guilty and convicted for stuffs . . . but they were innocent and punished, wrongly?
    In such a case . . .
    Do you behead the jury?
    Just asking.

  11. The club should not have considered extending Partey’s stay. Having a long standing investigation should have rung alarm bells

The mainstream news media did not name him until the charges were brought.

These charges are extremely serious as Sue has pointed out,

  12. This is me asking peeps
Do we 100 percent know/ have evidence Arsenal offered him a new deal ?

      1. That’s my point peeps
They report allot that doesn’t happen
I was just wondering do we know 100 percent

        1. Of course we don’t Dan and Partey is contesting the alleged charges.
We have no idea what the contract talks involved – for all we know, the club may have inserted a clause that said if charges were brought, they would be able to cancel the contract!!
That’s the problem here, nobody knows anything other than what’s been officially released by the prosecution and Thomas Partey’s legal team.
          To condemn our club without
knowing the facts is preposterous, just as condemning Partey is.

If he is found guilty, then I’m certain no one would query the book being thrown at him – I certainly wouldn’t – but if he’s found innocent and the club reveal that they had taken steps to ensure they had covered all angles, there will be some really red faces around the JustArsenal contributers.

As for the prosecution having strong evidence, tell that to Mendy who’s life (not just his football career) was destroyed by false allegations that the prosecution put forward as strong evidence.

          1. Yeah you know me
I’ll call out manager and owners on allot of things but on this one they really wouldn’t have allot of involvement

        2. 🚨 Arsenal want Thomas Partey to stay + in talks over new contract. 31yo midfielder happy at #AFC & family enjoying London life. Ghana int’l open to improved 2yr deal or 1+1yr – will consider alternative options if agreement cannot be struck @TheAthleticFC

I’d say he was more in the know than you or I. And if Arteta didn’t want him to remain with us then why not state it?

          1. But he did want him to stay Sue, that’s why a new contract was put forward.
What was in that contract, only the club, player and his agent are privy too.
It seems that he was happy at our club, so there was no outside influences that had him thinking about leaving.
The only reason he didn’t sign a new contract was the fact that he didn’t think the proposed offer wasn’t good enough.

          2. Because Sue Arsenal legally have to be so careful
They can’t be seen to not be offering him a new deal only because of the allegations

            1. We deserve answers, but none are forthcoming. Until that day, I will remain deeply disappointed with my club

              1. You won’t get any at least till court case is done
Some of you need to climb out of the football bubble and realise Arsenal will be doing everything a lawyer tells them

                1. Well you can sugarcoat it as much as you like. I for one will not be changing my stance on this

                  1. Not sugar coating it all
Arsenal fans are not that victims
It’s either three girls or a man falsely accused
                    Arsenal owe you nothing.

                    1. They did the right thing
They can’t treat him differently until he is charged
If I worked in Asdas’, Asdas can’t suspend me because the police are investigating something
Lets say for three years Arsenal didn’t play him and then the allegations turn out false , Arsenal are in allot of trouble
So Arsenal literally did legally what they were told

Your angry because some reports have said he was offered a new contract
From sources that get things wrong

Arsenal won’t comment on it while the trial is going

They won’t do anything right by you on this because it’s nothing to do with you
That’s like saying it a cashier gets charged tomorrow Asdas owe you an apology ?

                      Sense of entitlement is extraordinary

Funny though when I said he shouldn’t be offered a new contract and wouldn’t ( how did I know that )several who said he should are now saying Arsenal were wrong ?

              1. I don’t think they did
I think they offered him a deal knowing he will reject it ( like lower then what others are offering ) so legally if innocent he can’t say Arsenal only refused because they assume his gut

                  1. No Sue I have a theory as do you
But none of us can factually say 100 percent he was offered a deal

As that’s the only thing your angry about maybe wait for Arsenal to confirm or deny

At moment your literally angry because a journalist said something

                1. That seems highly unlikely to me

There are 2 reasons for not offering him a new contract
One is the impending court case and the other is his age and future value (not monetary).
Arsenal had the perfect get out clause

              2. Because they wanted to keep him as a player… a player who had no legal charges currently against him.

                1. Yeah I’m not getting this
If the police question me on a Saturday and don’t charge me
My employer can’t go …..well we think your guilty lol

              1. It’s not twisting it
It’s you not agreeing with what I’m saying
Allot of decent , go to Itk said Sesko was happening didn’t they ?

                1. Yes and it looked like he was going to sign, but then greed took over. Deals fall through all the time

                  1. Yeah so they were wrong lol ?
The Athletic also said we get a striker in January
Were they wrong on that as well ?.lol

So in other words they are reliable but can we ignore what they get wrong

                    It’s obvious what Arsenal did

                    1. Arsenal can’t get it wrong on this
They are not allowed to legally treat him any different to he is charged
He’s been charged having left the club
So Arsenal have nothing to answer
This idea they will give you an apology/ explanation is so entitled lol

                    2. Why did it all come out a couple of days after he left then? Coincidence? Amazing that isn’t it?
Not entitled at all. I’d just like to think my club/manager had decency and morals like any decent person would. Not too much to ask is it?

                    3. What came out
                      The end of the investigation?
Your saying Arsenal and the CPS planned when the investigation ended in line with his contract ending lol ?
You really got to get your head around this that Arsenal have little power in this situation
Arteta specifically will have zero involvement

                      It will go like this
HR – legal team – ‘ Arteta treat him as you normally would until investigation is over ‘

                      Investigation over – he’s charged

                      He’s not an employee
                      Arsenal hands clean

And as Ken seems to get
If this time next week the allegations are false Partey can’t accuse Arsenal of discrimination in any way

                    4. I believe Partey was offered a new contract by the way.
But I can’t see anything wrong in offering a innocent man an extension to said contract.
Are we now turning into a society that judges and cindenbs people before they’ve had a chance to defend themselves?
His accusers have the benefit of ananimity, which is fine, but he hasn’t which is wrong.
If he’s found not guilty, those accusers will remain protected by the law…. how is that justice?

If he’s found guilty, then the three women should have that ananimity protected, while Partey should face the full extent of the law.

What The Arsenal have to do, is wait until the trial is concluded and then tell their story.

                    5. @Ken1945
I wrote a reply in a previous article
I don’t know if you read it but UK Parliament and the rights of defendants to remain anonymous

                    6. No I didn’t see your post SueP, my apologies.
Let me ask you this – if Partey is found innocent of all charges, do you believe his accusers should not be named, shamed and charged with ruining an innocent persons life?

As for you saying the club shouldn’t have offered him a new contract – Why?
Had he been charged or found guilty of anything?

  13. And my argument being Ken, the deal was offered before the outcome of Partey’s trial. Which to me is condoning sexual assault.

    1. Sue,

Arsenal offering Partey a new contract is not condoning sexual assault.

He may have been charged, but it’s still to be proven. And if it is, I for one will be the first to applaud his conviction.

But if he’s proved innocent, then the contract issue doesn’t really matter as he left us anyway.

There’s a lot of assuming going on here. Maybe the best thing to do, is let justice take it’s course one way or the other.

      1. I’m entitled to my opinion, Derek, just like everyone else on here and I stand by what I’ve said. And if that makes me entitled then so bloody be it

        1. Sue,

I wasn’t saying you wasn’t entitled to your opinion at all.

Like everyone else is entitled to theirs.

As I said at the end of my post, there’s a lot of assuming going on. Just let justice take it’s course one way or the other.

I’m apologize if you think I was having a go at you. I can assure you, that certainly wasn’t my intention.👍

          1. It’s ok, Derek, no need for the apology. I hope I didn’t come across as rude, it’s just frustrating when nobody listens to what you’re saying. I feel like banging my head against a brick wall 😵‍💫
Can I just say, you’ve been a breath of fresh air on here. Whenever I’ve checked in your comments have made me laugh out loud (love a little humour).

            1. Sue,

Thank you for your kind words. I must admit I do like a laugh, I always like to see the funny side of life to be honest. Life can be depressing at the best of times, so to throw a bit of laughter about is never a bad thing in my book.

Thanks again for your kind words. I certainly don’t get called a breath of fresh air everyday, so I’ll gladly except your quote. 😂👍

              1. Me too, Derek. Everything is better with a little laughter 😄👍
                Thank you for your response

        2. I just don’t see what Arsenal have done wrong to you
It’s not like he was charged and they turn carried on playing him
They would have been legally advised to treat him the same while not charged

So the only thing Arsenal have done wrong is possible offer him a contact based on reporters who get things wrong

Arsenal won’t comment while trial is ongoing

So while you think your owed an explanation by thoughts are with people who have been truly impacted by this situation
Either the 3 victims or the wrongly accused

        3. Your entitled to your opinion but your opinion is irrelevant in court of law
That’s why lawyers get paid to take emotion out of things
Your asking Arsenal to do things legally and morally they just can’t do

    2. Sue, if the contract was offered (let’s play along with Dan on this) it was offered before any charges were made.
Look ar what city115 did with Mendy – they obviously ignored unfounded rumours – as soon as charges were made, they terminated his contract – he was found not guilty – sued city115 and was awarded, I believe, £11 million in lost wages.

Arteta has said he wanted to keep Partey the footballer.
      Nothing more and nothing less.

Our club cannot be judge, jury and pass sentence on someone who hasn’t had a chance to defend himself, especially as he says he’s innocent of all charges.

      1. Ken mate
        I work in this environment
What people are Arsenal to do is against the law and could impact the case

The moment this came up it would have been out of Arteta hands and to Arsenal’s legal department who would have said …..Arsenal do nothing till the police have done their investigation

How people feel has nothing to do with the law

          1. The saddest part is
And it would take too long to explain
Arsenal have safeguarded those girls and ensured they and Partey get a fair trial
If they had done what some are asking the case could have got thrown out

      2. Mendy had an extremely colourful private life as came out in court. The R case was proved to be unfounded but in general I wouldn’t have wanted a young female relative anywhere near him and his mates. Whilst they were all consenting adults in some aspects must have been a little naive

He also carried on hosting his “parties” during Covid which was illegal.

So innocent of the charges but miles away from being the role model that clubs desire their players to be these days

I could pose the question:- would you be happy if Arsenal actively pursued extending Partey’s deal in similar circumstances?

        1. That’s what happened when RVP joined our club and he was also found not guilty.

Until and if, Partey is found guilty, why would I not want the club to pursue his services further?
I’m not judge and jury and I don’t know the in’s and out’s of what actually happened, but if he’s found guilty under the laws of our country, I would expect our club to act accordingly.

I also have no idea what age the women involved in this are, can you enlighten me?
It seems that at least one of them followed Partey from country to country, or have I got that wrong?
I believe the Tory party held parties while covid restrictions were in place, so would you judge them in the same way?

          1. Ken1945
I understand everything you say and I’m far from suggesting that TP is a predator. Nor do I know the ages of these women or why one would follow him to the UK. I’m not trying to brand him as unsavoury but I wouldn’t have offered him new terms. Perhaps it’s a woman thing. But having been horribly frightened alone in a carriage on the tube to have a man walk through from another, who thought it was ok to mast ter bate in front of me. I was barely 13 so I tend to think the worst. Trust isn’t my strong point these days and hence I’d err on the side of caution. The club didn’t do anything wrong but there are other fish in the sea to have taken his place- especially at this stage of his career. Imagine if there is a guilty verdict and how that would look for the club?

The Torres were hardly blameless and ultimately the country got rid and the Tory hierarchy got rid of Boris first. Deserved by anyone spouting about the rules but then deciding to break them

Mendy confiscated phones from the girls/women so that they couldn’t use them at his property. Yes, they could use them to sell a story if that way inclined but if events became troubling then they’d a diminished chance of calling for assistance. Either way, I think colourful is the kindest word to have used.

            1. Why wouldn’t you have offered him new terms?
That’s the part I don’t get – no one was worried while he was putting in great performances during the last two seasons and the concensus on JA was that he should, either sign a new contract, or he was too old and holding the club to ransom.
Not a dickybird about any other issues – yet as soon as these charges were made, fans were jumping up and down, saying they had proof but couldn’t disclose it etc etc etc
I note that MA was being blamed for signing him in the first place!!

I’m sad for your experience, I had an older woman seduce me when I was thirteen and the repuccusions ripped two families apart.
Perhaps that’s why I take the stand I have, when someone is hung, drawn and quartered before any facts are known?!

I’m going to wait until the court case unfolds now, as I’ve said my piece on the subject.
All I hope is that the truth prevails and justice is served.

              1. I think that at his age, the best is behind him and with – I imagine a sizeable salary- there are other fish in the sea. I’d say we disagree on his value to us in the future as I felt that Partey was hit and miss at times

            2. SueP and Ken1945,

I’m sorry to read about both your experiences when you were younger. 😒

              1. At the time it was quite good Derek, unlike SueP ‘s experience!!
As I’m nearly 80 and can still recall the fallout, I have every sympathy for those who have come across abusers and want those people punished…. after the judge and jury hear the evjdence and decide who’s right and who’s wrong.
Not destroy either party before that’s happened!!

      1. He kept his place in the starting 11 after being arrested on more than one occasion. It seems turning up late for training is a far worse crime.

        1. Because he wasn’t charged
With respect I don’t get what you don’t get about that
If I’m arrested but not charged my work can’t say well I disagree with the police , I’m finding you guilty

  14. What gets me is the way our club and fans (well certain fans )
Made all that fuss about Auba visiting his sick mother and him returning late then the club had no qualms about getting rid and then you look at the party situation which the club knew for 3 years but then they were thinking of offering him a new deal .
Puts alot in to perspective,a player who turns up late (big deal )or a potential rapi5t ,you have to laugh at Arteta and his quote about club values .
If he’s found guilty our club is a joke simple really .

    1. And if he’s found innocent DK, who is the joker then?

Aubemeyang was proven to have broken club rules – as of this minute, can you give me an example of Partey having broken, not only club rules, but
      any laws of the land?

      1. Mate he visited his poorly parent in covid ,the club knew partey was up for his charge for 3 years massive difference,if he’s innocent he’s innocent, but either way sticking by an alleged r5pist and offering him a new contract does not look good .
It’s like you always saying city 115 ,where’s your evidence, who will be the joker then .

        1. It’s not me who’s brought those 115 charges DK and they have every right to defend themselves.
If they are found not guilty, then it’s authorities who will be seen as the jokers.

Partey was not up for these charges three years ago, otherwise he, simply, would have been charged and, like city115, he has every right to defend his reputation.

Aubemeyang has a history of breaking rules – I still think MA was wrong to let him go without a replacement then… and we still haven’t replaced him as I type this reply!!

          1. No it’s not you that brought the charges up but you refer to city every post as 115 is that not doing the same that said fans are talking about partey .
You keep post innocent till proven guilty regarding party but post 115 regarding city everytime you post ,and let’s be honest I would rather be a fan of club who cheated than a fan that wanted to offer a contract to a sexual predator

            1. As soon as those 115 charges are proved false (if they are ofcourse) then it becomes irrelevant.
At the moment, they are relevant and the reason I use them, is because so many of their successes have been achieved during the period under investigation and it’s important that everyone stays vigilant in ensuring that those 115 charges are not swept under the carpet.
Now that Partey has been charged, not found guilty of course, he also should be given the time to prove his case.

Your assuming that city115 cheated and are guilty and that Partey is guilty as charged and The Arsenal knew he was guilty.

All I know is that the former has 115 charges against it and the latter has five sexual allegations against him since he left the club.

Let’s see how both pan out shall we?

    2. Morals, Dan. What about our fans who are victims of sexual assault themselves? What about the members of Arsenal supporters against sexual violence? What message is the club sending to them? It must be a kick in the teeth. They didn’t have to play him, it’s happened before (players dropped), but they did and MA gushed of his importance in the team and wanted him to stay (all after he’d been arrested). I saw a stat that since 2020, 7 of the PL clubs have had players under investigation for sexual violence.

      1. Sue that’s my point
As a company Arsenal can’t say we think your guilty so we are sending you home ( as in legally they can’t do that )
Now they can pay him to sit at home but again the point Ken makes is if he’s innocent he then sues us for treating him unfairly and assuming his guilt

        Then and I can’t stress this enough………

If Arsenal pay him to sit at home
Every week the press will ask where is Partey
Arsenal cannot legally say he’s being investigated and they certainly can’t say we think he’s guilty

So Arsenal would have to not tell the truth

That they spreads the gossip on social media

What is the one thing the CPS asked for ?
To the case not to be mentioned in public

So can you see the damage Arsenal will cause of they do what your asking and simply say
‘ we think your guilty even though the police don’t yet ‘

        1. Arteta had no trouble in saying others hadn’t performed in training which is why they were dropped, did he not? He didn’t have to mention the investigation, but chose to turn a blind eye. Winning games was more important. But as long as he performed on the pitch didn’t matter what he got up to off of it

          1. But Sue your asking him to pay someone to sit at home for three years which will only spread the gossip which the CPS asked Arsenal and the media not to do
And like Ken said if he’s not guilty you have just assumed someone’s guilt ?
So what if he the police never charged him
The police don’t think your guilty but Arsenal do ?

              1. Oh Sue I’m not saying he’s innocent
I’m saying your asking Arsenal to do something no company would do
That would be me going Into work and my employer sending me home because they think I’m guilty even though the police don’t
An employer would be in so much trouble
There is a process you go through and unfortunately it starts with innocent until being proven guilty
If evidence is there they will get him and he will get everything he deserves

      2. Exactly mate ,makes me laugh that Arteta talks of club values but he’s the one who signed partey ,apparently the club have a 12000 word dossier on every player they sign ,obviously they need to up it to 1000000 .
Let me guess it would have been edu who signed him .
It sur wig you seen a post form 2 nights ago form a certain fan calling them
        Hookers .

        1. “He’s beating the damn case. All I can blame Thomas for is his involvement with those hookers, that got him in this rather embarrassing mess, and of course our dear club. All the best to him wherever he ends up”
That’s the post ,Fcking disgusting TBH

        2. Oh definitely Edu, I’d have even said Sanllehi had he still been with us at the time 😄

  15. I don’t get the argument. Arsenal were not obliged to offer him a new contract immediately after the expiration of the old one. Maybe as a coach Arteta wanted him to stay. Expired contract followed by criminal charges meant no new contract offered. Good luck Partey my fellow ghana man.
