After winning the league title for the first time in 22 years, Arsenal are aiming to establish themselves as the dominant force in English football while also challenging for the Champions League this season and in the years ahead.
The Gunners possess a well-settled squad that has played together for a considerable period. That continuity gives them an important advantage and should help the team build momentum quickly when the new campaign begins.
Even so, Arsenal cannot ignore the significant activity taking place at rival clubs. Several of their competitors are making ambitious changes that could strengthen their squads considerably before the season gets underway.
Rivals Strengthen Ahead of New Campaign
Liverpool have appointed a new manager and are expected to bring several new players into their squad. Chelsea have beaten Arsenal to an agreement for Morgan Rogers, while Manchester City have invested heavily to sign Elliot Anderson during the current transfer window.
Last season was highly competitive, with the race for European qualification producing several surprises. Arsenal also had to wait until the closing stages of the campaign to secure the league title, underscoring how challenging the competition had become.
Arsenal’s rivals continue to strengthen their squads, increasing the challenge the Gunners will face as they attempt to defend their title. The club have also lost Leandro Trossard, who played an important role in their success last season.
Stability Could Be Arsenal’s Greatest Strength

Its always hard to win back to back, which for us should not be. We went 22 years without winning the league, and the mistakes that were made, look to have been learned from last seadon. The pressure to win again last season was there for all to see. In some respects that pressure is less, now we have done it. We obviously have a league winning squad and this summer, it is upto the club to make it stronger by working to improve the things that didn’t quite work out. The fact we were not free scoring is the obvious one. The rest should be minor tweaks and look towards a team and style of play that can win the CL. Every season, rivals, so call strengthen, that is always the case. We are starting from a higher ceiling and we can be more smarter, in our improvement. We do not need to chase rainbows just be clever in our buying. For me Saka, can have a better season, Gyokores can have a better season, Martinelli (or his replacement) can have a better season. MLS can have better season, now he has been played in his ideal spot. Zubimendi (if he gets on) can have a better season. Madueke can finish off his massive promise. So without the obvious strengthening, we still have room for improvement, from a higher ceiling.
It shouldn’t be tougher since Guardiola doesn’t manage Man City anymore
Berta, Arteta and the Kroenkes have also known what they did wrongly last season, so they’d likely invest in players who’re more suitable for Arteta’s system and the gaffer could tweak his winning formula to surprise the opposing managers

Do you think TZolis rumor fits Arsenal style of play and a worthy replacement for Trossard.
I wouldn’t say Chelsea beat us to the signing of Rogers because we don’t know for sure we were going for him, yes plenty of rumours but do we really know we were going for him.
Yes we were going for him 150%. We didn’t want to pay what Villa wanted. Chelsea did, we move on.
Arsenal doesn’t rush to pay cash because a club wants a heaven fall cause of a mediocre player. Trust Arteta and Berta, they knew which player is going to fit in the system. I’m sure we are going to see Morgan Rogers struggling and regretting why he went to Chelsea. Morgan still knew he would deliver what Arsenal want
I agree we were interested in him and he seems to be the ideal player we wanted, but I don’t think it was okay for us to splash all that money on him considering our already elite squad quality. I so much believe that Arteta and Berta will get us alternatives.
I agree it will be a very tough season. Everyone is investing on top players and even though some might not perform as expected they will more than likely improve.
To retain the title we will need world class players in key positions.
Heavy investment doesn’t mean you win the league or Liverpool would’ve run away with it. A defender, midfielder and a left winger are a must though. A striker would be nice too, but money seems to be tight after the spending spree last season, so we’ll see.
They say it’s harder to retain the League than to win it, and I agree. When you’re the Champions you’ve got a target on you’re back.
And teams raise their games against you. And lets not forget, Arsenal never managed to retain the Title under George Graham or Arsene Wenger.
And that’s why some people said Arsenal were very good, but won’t be classed as great until they do manage to retain it.
We have had a target on our backs last 3 seasons so I don’t see any difference this coming season… all teams will still park the bus which even Liverpool and Citeh have done .
Difference for Arsenal is there is zero pressure now to win / retain. Monkey is off pur backs
So hopefully that means for this season we can play with more freedom .. we can’t be gung ho but certainly more entertaining knowing we won last season
Very interesting to see who we buy as Ciry Utd Spuds and Chelski already spent massive monies to compete.. however we will have the same core team who have played for 2-3 seasons

We need cover for Saliba and I think Stones would be an ideal stop gap especially as he wants to do coaching badges…. and knows Arteta

George Graham and Arsene Wenger and some fans probably thought the same thing back then to.
Our marquee signing might just be Enzo fernandez.
Not happening. He’s too expensive. Guimaraes and Alex Scott are cheaper (and both would be more acceptable to the fans!).
There seems to be two train of thoughts.
1. We should stick with what we have, let’s not upset the apple tree, we have a winning formula. Only purchase where we have to for cover (for example cover for Saliba while recovering).
2. We can’t stand still, other teams are improving to try catch up to us, and therefore we need to improve as well by making some big signings.
I am personally in the middle. In terms of improving, we need to find a world class left winger, that will provide the “elevator” we need. After that I think we just need cover for Saliba and Rice, of similar quality (if that is even possible), or as close to that as we can.

I think he is a smart buy, and I think he will surprise a lot of us. His stats are incredible, but yes in a lesser league.
If we look at his last Champs league stats, 3 goals, 5 assists (8 goal involvements) in 13 games, which is a pretty decent return!
Your last paragraph makes important observations Kia. I’m sure the club see him as an able addition. Not every player has to cost shed loads of money and neither do players have to come from fashionable clubs to flourish at Arsenal.
I read on another stream that Arsenal buying Tzolis, is what Brighton have done in the past. And they were not criticizing Arsenal, but praising them.
I am always pessimistic at this time of year – everyone else is signing and getting stronger and we seem to be sitting back… I know that isn’t true but until things get sorted with incomings and outgoings it always seems “worse”.
I do think we need fullback support first and foremost. We have a bunch of guys who can play in the middle but we are using them outside to cover others. Our fullbacks can be amongst the best when healthy but they aren’t healthy very often. The combination of White, Timber and Califiori are really good but they aren’t reliable.
After that big need we probably need a creative mid before other spots. I hope Martin Odegard returns to earlier form but I am not sure, he needs competition and we need cover. Maybe there are enough pieces in house to cover off but I am not sure.
Finally, left wing that fits into how Arteta wants to play. I would not want to lose Martinelli but he isn’t the starter, he is the person who runs through tired opposition late in games. I guess I would put the wing ahead of creative mid.
I think we do need Rice cover but I think we need the other pieces first and then comes the issue of striker support.
With how Arteta wants us to play I am not sure up front is the biggest priority – sure someone great would be nice but there are enough people to go along with Victor that we are okay. Merino keeps scoring for Spain (and us when healthy) and Havertz does his thing pretty well. Somebody like Alverez (don’t think we will get him, seems to have heart set on staying in Spain) would possibly solve left and centre up front but there aren’t too many like him, and the suggestion that we swap Victor for him scares me.
I guess the greek winger is having the medical and that seems positive – don’t know too much about him but there certainly is potential. So maybe that solves the wing?
Stones would offer cover at centreback but we do have four or five people who are good there (granted one of them is Saliba). He does know how to win and he played pretty well for England.
Question I have is Nwanari – what do we do with him. I think he offers something creatively and in the squad but Arteta doesn’t seem to rate him. Too bad the loan went sideways as that may have been a chance to really see what was possible.

I agree on the defender, partly because Saliba is out for a while. It might well be that we bring in another RB. That means we can rotate Mosquera, White and Timber in RCB. We also really need to be looking to add a player there anyway.
CM definitely needs investment. We need to be able to give Rice and Zubimendi more rest this season without dropping off significantly in quality. LW is probably not solved by Tzolis. He’s a replacement for Trossard, but doesn’t raise the ceiling as far as anyone can tell yet.
And yep, there is a lot of action with some clubs. It’s comforting to realize though that while several are out buying up expensive first team players, it’s because they’ve been unable to compete with *us* 🙂
Good also to remember that in terms of key signings, our only two real first-team signings last summer were Gyokeres and Zubimendi. The others were all for depth, even Eze. And then we won the league…
When we sell a good player, due to age, and coming to the end of their contract – Replace him with a player who is regarded as an upgrade – Trossard -> Tzolis.
When a Key Player suffers a Long Tern Injury – If Possible bring in ‘useful’ experienced cover for him IF POSSIBLE – Saliba -> Stones – Free Transfer – Low Cost – Extremely P L Proven – Yes – He’s 32, and he has been injury prone – but it’s NOT a certainty that he’s going to get injured again while Saliba is recovering.
IF there’s an opportunity to bring in a more permanent Long Term high quality player for a ‘reasonable’ fee – go for him – it adds further depth to the Team.
If there are weaknesses in the team, and there aren’t to many weaknesses in the Arsenal Team at the moment – some, but not many – go for the best players – who can ‘fit into the system and adapt to the style of play.
Arteta and Berta, brought in a whole raft of major signings last season – in a whole range of different positions. Last season was a huge season for those players to to fit in and adapt – and that could have unsettled the whole dynamic of the Team’s progress over the previous 3 seasons.
It didn’t – the Team stepped up – We won the Premier League, and came within a whisker of winning the European Cup as well.
This season they will all probably ‘hit the ground running.
Keep the Key Players of the Current Team.

DO NOT SWAP any of our Key Players in this Transfer Window.
I believe, if Arteta and Berta, have a Transfer Window this year, similar to the Transfer Window they had last year – with smart savvy choices with regard to recruitment, sales, and budgeting – Arsenal WILL retain The Premier League Title nex5t season, and with a little bit of further good luck and good fortune – Arsenal WILL win The European Cup for the first time as well.
Buying some supposed maquel signing is great, but where’s the pathway for our young stars to become first team stars? The likes of Saka, Rogers, Eli Kroupi and more were just young stars like our Nwaneri, Dowman e.t.c until someone took the risk to give them the opportunity that transformed them to the stars they are today to become subjects of bidding wars. We already have a great squared, it’s time to integrate those talents into the squad and not buying some ‘stars’ for crazy and unreasonable prices and wages.
As far as I’m concerned, Arteta and co should superstars out of the likes of Dowman, Nwaneri, Salmon. It is then I would agree to the fact that Arteta is a great coach/manager. This is the reason why I like and rate Flick .A of Barca so high above some so called manager who can only produce when they have superstars at Thier disposal.

If we can develop our own Academy players (Saka is a great example – so are M L S Dowman – if they are given a genuine chance to fully develop their obvious potential) we’ll have much less need to pay fortunes in the Transfer Market every summer.
