Ozil illness to decide whether Arsenal go for win or draw at Liverpool?

It was always going to be a tough test for Arsenal in our next Premier League match, because it is away to Liverpool and we have not got a very good record at Anfield. While a point from any away game against a big EPL rival is a decent result, a win would do our top four challenge the power of good and with Jurgen Klopp under pressure after his faltering Reds lost away to relegation threatened Leicester City on Monday, Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal side might just be looking to pile the pressure on.

It would be great for the Gunners to bring all three points back to north London on Saturday as it would ease some of the recent fans’ frustration and fury while fending off the scousers and Man United to make Arsenal big favourites to qualify once again for the elite club competition which is the Champions League.

We have good reason to go to Anfield in a positive frame of mind as well, especially if their captain and central midfield general Jordan Henderson is still out with injury. Liverpool have had a pretty woeful defensive record over the last few years and Klopp has failed to improve it.

With Lucas playing as a makeshift centre back and with no Henderson to protect the back four I would not be surprised to see Wenger go on the offensive, or I would not have done until seeing Metro report that our German play maker might miss the game after being sent home from training due to illness.

Without Ozil to create chances, control the game and bewilder the defence, would Arsenal be better off with a more solid set-up at Liverpool do you think??

  1. This article implies that Özil has carried the attack this season. Personally, I would bench him even if he was fit. He hasn’t shown his talent in the passed few months. I just feel he doesn’t produce enough (goals AND asissts) this season. A stint on the bench could wake him up which would be good for the rest of the season. I have the impression that at Arsenal the name is sometimes more important then the actual performance of a player. Thats what’s holding us back imo.

I want to see Welbeck and perez start.. but it won’t happen unfortunately.

  2. I don’t think beating Liverpool will make us favorites to finish in the top 4. Man U are within striking distance being only 2 points behind us, beating them in the head to head would be a big step. Liverpool is a must win game a draw will not do IMO. This leads to the next part of my answer, how many must win games did Ozil shine in? With him, it is hard to say whether which Ozil shows up, the genius capable of ripping open defenses and providing easy goals for his team mates? Or the player who might as well sit on the bench because he is anonymous? In big games we all know the answer to that question, more often than not the invisible Ozil shows up.

I have been impressed with Ox in the middle if Ozil is out I would give Ox a chance in his place.

  3. If Ozil is actually sicked, then it’s sickened to hear this again. How many times is he going to be sicked during an Arsenal’s season campaign? However, his sickness may turnout to be a blessing in disguise for Arsenal at Anfield this Saturday as he’s being accused of missing in big games more especially at away big games. The only thing we’ll miss if he doesn’t play in this big away game against Liverpool is his corner kick takings which are often accurately taken and if they are well utilized by Giroud or Kosielney or any other Gunner attacking the ball, it could fetch Arsenal a goal or two. He’s arguably the best corner kick taker at Arsenal at the moment.

Arsenal still have the motivation to play for as they will not only pick up a Ucl ticket and win the FA Cup but they still have an outside chance to win the PL title this season if they can win all their remaining 13 games which is a big ask of the Gunners to accomplished. But I believe they can accomplish this big task with a 14 PL game winning run to finish the season on 89 points total from their last home match against Hull to their last match of the season at the Ems against Everton. A new in a single season 14 PL game winning run that could see Arsenal lift this season’s title at the expense of Chelsea is most desired by us the Gooners to see Arsenal ccomplished successfully this season.

  4. If Ozil doesn’t play then try Alexis in the middle behind Giroud or Welbeck
    Play Theo and Lucas

    Like

    Theo……….Alexis…….Lucas
    …………Giroud

  5. You guys do realize that Ozil relies on the team as much as the rest of the team relies on him. Midfield in particular, which has been all over the place in recent weeks, even months. Ozil can’t do everything on his own, and needs support, which I have to say has been lacking as of late. So to single him out and blame him for all of our recent misfortunes is wrong. As far as I remember, football is still a team sport; and it’s a collective effort. So when we win, it’s because everyone did their job one way or another. And when we lose, it’s because the TEAM didn’t perform up to the best of their abilities, not just Ozil.
