Ozil talks confirmed – but will Arsenal pay him £200k per week?

Ozil wants to extend his contract!

There had been concerns earlier in the summer that Ozil was becoming frustrated with Arsenal’s lack of ambition, both on the pitch and off it regarding transfers. However it’s clear to me that the German international has enjoyed his time at Arsenal, despite a lack of major honours and that his only vision right now is to continue with Arsenal, in an attempt to return the glory days to the Gunners.

Ozil spoke in an interview about his future and was keen to suggest that he was willing to enter negotiations with Arsenal. Ozil said: “I have a contract until 2018. We have had discussions, but they were suspended for the European Championship. I wanted to focus at this time only on the national team. Now we look to continue the negotiations.”

It seems as if Mesut Ozil truly is warming to the club as a part of a ‘family’, as so many players before him have also said. Ozil is big fan of living in London, as he has said in previous interviews and he relishes to be competing in arguably the most competitive domestic league there is. The mood between the players seems to be strong and although I’m sure they can become frustrated at Arsenal lack of ambition at times, they gel well to work together as a team. Ozil is so important to the Arsenal that it’s vital that with any luck, his contract is extended to at least three years, meaning his next deal wouldn’t be set to expire until he’s 30 years old.

Hopefully negotiations go well between all parties and that if there are disagreements, that it doesn’t take effect on the pitch. Ozil is supposedly rumoured to be holding out for around £200k per week according to some reports, however this remains unconfirmed. If such wage is the case, it may go against Arsenal’s usual proceedings, however given the state of money in today’s game, it may be something Arsenal will have to offer if they want to keep hold of the club’s star man.

I agree. But he also has to earn it. By being ruthless, not timid in front of goal and puttin in a halfway decent defensive shift…
      Give him the #10 also…

      1. But he does all those.. Haven’t you seen his goal this season? If that was OG I’m sure he wouldn’t have gotten to the ball on time, he runs slower. I hope Ozil starts taking his chances rather than trying to assist every time

        1. Ozil was the PL Assist leader (even with Giroud on 15 game non-scoring streak and Theo not providing enough goals)
Ozil also scored 8 goals which was an improvement from previous seasons

I think he has earned it as opposed to Walcott who was given £140k per week by NOT earning it

And I can count on both hands, the times he had clear shots on goal, only to lay it off or back down. Yeah, he has put his foot in defensively an odd time, but not enough for my liking…

          1. I totally agree with you NY_Gunner! He needs to shoot and defend better. Enough already with those meaningless passes (at times).

  1. theres maybe 10 other clubs who will pay 300k a week for ozil, let alone 200k
pay da ting arsenal…an ozzy sign da ting!!

sanchez is the one i reckon is unsure about arsenal, he is the biggest thing to come out of chile since….err …chile con carne??!!!
ahem anyway…he is there maradona, there pele, not kidding hes huge so top 4 four an round of 16 in europe is not something he will sit on, he doesnt seem very tight with anyone on team, hes liked but he is not integrating

    1. @muffdiver
Because he copped on to some of the players sittin back while he was busted guts. Dude is “high intensity” and he wants the same around him. Otherwise, why bother…
Believe it or not, the only guy he seemed to have a bond with is Sanogo…

  2. I think Ozil will sign a new contract, at get his favoured No 10 squad number too.

But before we say “Give him 200K and more just make sure he stays”, it is crazy money that we are talking about here. Us fans must work very hard to earn his weekly wage in a year. We are shot through our arse for matchday ticket / season ticket / subscription, add to that, the ridiculous jersey prices. I wish everyday that we go back to the pre-Premier League era just for stopping this money mess. Inflated markets, inflated agents fees, inflated wages and inflated prices, but its just the same thing over and over. How long before the bubble bursts? Football used to be a working class game. Used to. Not ranting here, just food for thought.

    1. The football wasn’t as exciting, but the passion from players made it much better. Wrighty was some character, used to love seeing him leave his foot in on Schmeichel, and the way he celebrated his goals was worth the fees alone.

  3. Poor old Wenger, just when he thought that he would get a nice little break, from all that baulking! ?? ?

  4. The best incentives for player’s are the bonuses, Give them a huge bonus rise instead.
Goal, assist, cleansheet bonuses would avoid scenarios like Walcott, getting paid well whilst putting in less effort.

  5. It’s Arsenal, so if we think two hundred will do it, we will try and get it just under, maybe 180 or 90. We should show how much we value them by giving them over what they ask, unless the agent is playing hardball. It’s a good sign that he wants the number 10 and is speaking about talks taking place.
