Pick your best Arsenal 4-4-2 line-up if Emery sticks with it?

There have been many discussions about Arsenal’s best line-up incorporating the new arrivals into the side, and after seeing Unai Emery start the game against Borehamwood with a conventional 4-4-2 system with Aubameyang and Lacazette playing together up front set me thinking..

After the game the players were talking about a “pressing” system and how to counteract it, so I was looking at how I would lay out our very best line-up if we had every single one one of our players fit and available. So here is my choice….

Cech/Leno

Lichtsteiner – Sokratis – Chambers – Monreal

Mhkitaryan – Ozil – Torreira – Xhaka

Aubameyang – Lacazette

Right now we have a very large squad to choose from and there will obviously be hard choices like Bellerin/Lichtsteiner, Mustafi/Chambers and Ramsey/Xhaka for example, but let us just see how everyone decides who should be first choice….

Obviously there will be a completely different XI for the Europa League but we’ll just do first-choice for now, shall we?

  1. But Emery plays either 4-3-3 or 4-1-4-1

    Personally, because of our large squad for now, i would opt for the 4-1-3-2 set up;

    1. This is quite close to the 4-1-4-1 formation and would give most of our players the chance to play in their favoured and natural position, plus we can play 2 strikers up front…

    2. This lineup looks great……. I’ll jst replace Lichsteiner with Bellerin (I do hope he regains top form), and Ramsey for a good winger, if we get one…… but it’ll be great to see him hit top form too, and be a lot more disciplined.

    4. I’ve been saying this many times!! Any lineup not including Mavropanos is very weak. Mustafi>>>>>Chambers and Lich >>>>>>Bellerin

  2. I think it’s generally acknowledged that the team in the first half against the Wood was 4-3-3. Up front, Laca played central with Auba wide left and Nelson wide right.

    1. Why England? Why not France the actual winners of the WC? What did England achieve with the formation you want us to emulate??

  8. What we real’y need is a hard man in midfield been looking on youtube and hulls Ronnie Pickering is what we’ve been missing since the days of Petit and Viera definitely worth a punt

  9. I choose the deep midfield 3 based purely on work rate, passing, and creative ability and the front 3 based on their potentially devastating pace on the counter. The back 4 + goalkeeper kinda picks itself imo.

  17. I think arsenal has to get one between Douglas Costa, dembele and Kingsley coman but i would prefer either Coman or dembele because they are both young.. But it seems emery is going for Kingsley Coman maybe because dembele is a bit difficult to pull out but Emery wants Coman for a reason..i like Coman because i believe he is a good winger and very young.. So much better chance to develop,emery would make him better and turn him into a beast…emery made mbappe become better in front of goal… Emery would make get Coman and turn him into a superstar because coman is a confident dribbler…you can see it in his game… He just needs a great coach to guide him.. Who else but our lovely tactician /disciplinarian Emery.. Emery the great!

I have never understood why people out Xhaka in their starting line ups ahead of Maintland Niles…The kid has got it all…You only have to remember last season against man united where he completely bossed the midfield something Xhaka cannot dream of doing…In 2 seasons, I think our midfield trio will consist of Lucas Torreira, AMN and Guendouzi…Then we can relax for a couple of seasons as they are all young

  20. That’s a 4-2-2-2 high pressing formation.. With Kingsley coming and mikhitaryan operating as playmakers and wingers

  22. Perisic would fit in with Emery.. He can play wing either left or right, not a problem. Or Draxler.

  23. For essentially equal money I’d trade Coman
    for Ramsey any day of the week and twice on
    Sunday. The Frenchman is far from a finished
    product at the tender age of 22 but would
    immediately walk into the starting 11 and
    provide another element to an already
    formidable attack. He would EXCEL under
    Emerys tutelage.

    Even if Coman cost around £50M AFC could still
    balance the books by offloading Ramsey, Welbeck,
    Campbell, Jenkinsin and Ospina.

  24. Think I’m missing something –

    I expect him to play 4 – 2 – 3 – 1. Think he stated as much. And that’s what I saw against The Wood.

    Think this lineup has great balance across whole team-

    3. This lineup definitely looks balanced and legit. But for competition sake, I’ll still get Kingsley Coman and play Aubameyang central. That way we have basically two people for every position. Rotation would be so important next season.

    *With this we have a stable defence a mature one and reliable too
    *with midfielders supporting in defence and attack well balanced
    *attackers getting that confidence to unleash their strength with no fear of collapse deffense…with each offering diffrent dimension to attack
    We should be formidable with this fomation

  27. I do like the fact that most want Aubamayang and Lacazette to play together. They are a dangerous pairing and are very aware of each other. Lucas Torreira will give good cover to the back four. I still would not have a lot of faith in Mustafi or Chambers and I really like Mavropanos. So I would try Sokratis and Mavropanos centrally. Can’t fault Monreal. He has grown and grown with us. I am sure Emery will bring the fire back to Bellerin. I do worry about not having a Santi/Jack unlocker/magician/controller midfielder. We clearly have an abundance of attacking midfield players though. Ramsey, Ozil, Mkhitaryan, Maitland-Niles, Xhaka. Without injuries we are fine. A good team, no doubt. No true winger though and that may cost us over the whole season. I do have a sneaking feeling Emery will deal with that before the window closes. Liked the new young French lad Matteo Guendouzi, he looks like a real star in the making. Maybe our new Cesc. This is the first season I have joy back in my blood for a long time.

    I went for Leno in goal because Ospina probably leaving and now rumors Chelsea want Cech back.
    Lich in the mid defence as captain maybe and to help Bellerin. I opted for Ozil in the middle as our chief creator but against tougher opposition he can be replaced and I feel Perez wasn’t given enough time previously to really show what he can do.
