If Arsenal wants a former player as their next manager then Patrick Vieira looks a solid choice.
In the latest of our series on potential Unai Emery replacements, we now turn our attention to club legend Patrick Vieira.
The Frenchman is arguably the last strong captain that Arsenal has had and that mentality has been sorely missing for some time at the Emirates.
Pros
Vieira started his managerial career at New York City FC and has been developing his style from that time. He left NYCFC in 2018 with a win ratio of 44 percentage, he has also done well at Nice since becoming their head coach.
His experience across different continents could be a major plus for the Gunners should he inherit their better squad and be given more cash.
Vieira also has a good knowledge of what it means to achieve success at Arsenal having been part of the last team to win the Premier League under Arsene Wenger.
He is certainly loved by the fans and I doubt there will be many that would object to his hiring.
Cons
Vieira remains inexperienced at the highest level. He is developing his career the right way, but becoming the new Arsenal manager may be too much of a step to take right now.
Vieira has also not won any trophies in his career as a manager and Arsenal do need a manager with trophy-winning experience that can propel them back to the top.
There are better-qualified candidates and the 43-year-old would risk his legacy with Arsenal if he takes the job on right now. The circumstances are not the best and he would be better served to continue on his current journey to the top level.

Get Giovanni van Bronckhorst, because:
– He won all major trophies everywhere he went, as a player and as a manager
– Played for Barcelona and Arsenal
– Unlike Blanc, he just resigned this year
– Man City’s target
Would be a fantastic choice but
it appears he has joined the
Man City group and is the
successor in waiting to Pep at
the Etihad.
No actual top level experience or success at all. There are literally dozens of well loved ex-players we could choose on this flawed thinking basis. The central requirement must of course always be previous top level experience. I realise some will say “What about Wenger when he first came- no real top level pedigree?” He was a rare exception but football is full of ex players at top clubs who cannot cut the managerial mustard. Managing and playing are two totally separate jobs. Reality!
I do not , OBVIOUSLY, mean to imply that WENGER WAS OUR EX-PLAYER. I should have phrased it more accurately.
I really enjoy these articles but just a thought.. Maybe you should try to go into more details when discussing their pros and cons.. Talk about their philosophies and preferred tactics, as that is more useful information than telling us about where they started there career etc.
I try to keep it basic to be honest so that it initiates debate, which it does. I give my opinion enough, sometimes it is nice to sit back and let my fellow gooners do their bit.
If UE has been of any lesson to the club, it should be that “perceived success” doesn’t mean a thing.
What we do need, is someone who knows the DNA of our club, what it stands for and why Muorinho would NEVER fit into that scenario.

I have seen people saying Mou should not be given the Job. But I think he has matured over the years. My mind tells me he is the best option. And Ljumberg to be his assistant. The problem with our team is the lack of winning mentality. And leadership. Mou cares only about winning. He commands respect. The players will listen to him. We should look into that.Mou knows the league inside out. He is pragmatic. Every player will sit up and put in 100 percent. To him, it is about instant success. I think he is the right candidate. My opinion though.
