Pundit slams another poor Arsenal defensive performance

Jermaine Jenas criticises Unai Emery for Arsenal’s poor defensive display.

Arsenal’s defence was poor yet again as they were beaten 2-0 by Leicester City yesterday evening. That was the fifth consecutive time Arsenal has failed to win a game and it wasn’t hard for Jermaine Jenas to point out the part of the team that is causing them trouble.

Unai Emery changed his team’s formation yet again and the struggle to adapt among his defenders was obvious to see.
This latest result has intensified calls for Emery to be sacked and Jenas believes the team would have fared better in that game had it not been for their defending.

“It’s not looking good,” he said.

“It was the first time they went back to a back three in the Premier League this year, and you could tell.

“They had no plan, they had a complete lack of direction in the way they played with and without the ball.

”You’ve seen many centre-backs when they’re playing in a back there drop into positions where they’re in midfield. But when you do that and you’ve not worked on it, you can’t give the ball away like that.”

Arsenal also had problems in other departments as they struggled to create any meaningful chance of their own.
With Guendozi, Torreira and Ozil in midfield, the team still could not create as many chances as their opponents. This meant the duo of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang were left with almost no service up top.

Arsenal looked like a team that lacked confidence. Leicester on the other hand, who now have nine points more than Arsenal were full of it.

Unless there is a change, either in management or in tactics, it simply is not going to get better.

  1. ALL Holding done was pass the ball back to the goalkeeper no matter where he was waste of time we need to go forward as nobody told him that

  2. Sincerely speaking, Emery should still be a backroom staff to klopp. These liverpool players are real warriors

        1. You are right Sue. Nonetheless, The person in charge of sacking the person in charge of sacking Emery, needs to be sacked ASAP.

          1. Skills1000 – some people might have thought your comment was witty the first 500 times you made it but it’s beginning to get very boring now.

  3. Not surprised Emery not sacked. Ownership and board served up Wenger to irate fans to save their blushes and incompetence.

Here we are again; ownership happy to have Xhaka and Emery as human shields in fans firing squad. Edu brought Martinelli, but where is his day to day influence, and conveying the Arsenal philosophy; that’s what he was brought in for, right?

Raul is supposed to be director of football, not just director of transfers. WTF has he done to bring Arsenal back? Wasn’t that the reason he was hired in that position?

I blame Emery sure, but Edu not pulling his weight in job description, and neither is Raul. Kronke’s also; can’t just hire people, then step back and make excuses.

Problem is Emery and also extends upward.

  4. If Emery were a man made object, like a phone, computer, article of clothing etc we would be well within our rights to return the goods to the seller and claim a refund. Perhaps we should en masse write to the club accordingly and demand our money back for goods which are not only faulty but which do not work at all. The club are taking us for fools and if they do NOT sack this incompetent man this week I will declare war on my own club owner and those in charge of running the club. I am not prepared to be taken for a mug any longer and I urge all Gooners to do the same. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THIS RUBBISH AND THOSE WHO MEEKLY DO SO ARE SHEEP!

    1. I agree with you Jon. I also have a feeling. That if we had brought in either Pep or Klopp to replace Wenger 4 seasons ago, we could have won the EPL. These two are top managers who demand the best from their teams every match. But Emery is not good enough for us. No need to wait till the end of the season. There is a lot at stake. If we do not make top 4, it will be 4 years playing in Europa League. We cant afford it. We will loose our top players. And would spend a lot more to rebuild. The safer option is to sack him now. And get in a Top manager. Luis Enrique. We can as well look at a very good manager in the league. The wolves Manager can be considered. My thought though. I just don’t want Emery anymore. The guy has lost it. This is very bad.

      1. With the Arsenal midfield and centre backs Arsenal has in their squad, Merlin the Magician couldn’t win the EPL, without strengthening these deficient areas.

  5. You guys just keep talking about VAR,Penalty not given and favouritism. who among you here does not like the way liverpool play?

look at Fabinho first goal, thunder boat
Robinson cross to Salah for second goal
what a flying header for Mane for the third. please leave matter for martiah

  6. I will say that I admire CALUM CHAMBERS for being the most improved player we have If not for him we would have suffered a bigger defeat in most games ive seen
Your right in the fact that the useless Manager has to go allong with Ozil Xhaka and Cassette as he is a waste of good money Guendouzi is a headless chicken and a seasonal griper about nothing PLEASE bring in the young guns every time we play them we seem to click so what if there not ready they soon willl be and be a better hungrier team than the overpaid so called senior squad TILL you address this big void we as a team will be in the bottom half by christmas Come on GOONERS lets get things rolling Make an effort if you really support this club
