Ramsey is not being greedy – He just wants to play further forward for Arsenal?

There are just ten days left in the European transfer window and Arsenal seem to be even further away from tying down Aaron Ramsey to a contract extension. Many pundits think that it is the Welshman’s over-high wages demands that are the biggest obstacle to a new deal, but it has now been suggested that Ramsey simply wants to play in his favoured position.

Ramsey started against Manchester City, but he was on the bench and was brought on near the end to replace Mesut Ozil, could it have been because Ramsey has told him that he wants to play there? The ex-England midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes this is the case and is the cause of the current contract stand-off.

“For their sake, they need to go down that road because the Aaron Ramsey situation didn’t work,” he said. “I think he wants to play higher up the pitch and I get the feeling it was more Ramsey’s decision than Emery’s.

“The fact Ramsey hasn’t signed – you can’t tell me there has not been a conversation along the lines of ‘what is it, then, that you want?’

“Because he isn’t a greedy person. I think Ramsey just wants to play in the position he wants to be.

“I think he wants to play higher up, but I’m not sure if it suits him.”

So if this is true, and the game against Chelsea suggests it may be, then what is the solution? There is very little chance of Ozil being dropped for Ramsey so should Arsenal just sell him, or leave him on the bench until Ozil gets injured?

  1. He can’t be any more forward than when he played Man City ,practically in goal for them .Hes easy replaceable,be from the youngsters till January or if AMN can get fit then no need to spend money ,fans on here wanted wenger out. It some still want some of his dross players in the team .i say let him run his contract down ,not my kind of arsenal player .

  2. Greedy? Maybe, Selfish? Absolutely.

He himself saod he was interested in being a captain; finally gets his wish and Emery even fawns over his importance. So what does Ramsey do? Holds club to ransome to satisfy himself.

Hardly captain material, and quite disrespectful adter the patience and favoritism he has been shown last 10 years.

Move this diva elsewhere, this selfish t##t makes me miss Wilshere. Seems Wilshere was happy to play anywhere, not whining like Ramsey.

    1. Never heard Ramsey whining about his position or his contract

He is not holding Arsenal to ransom, they just do not agree on the terms and conditions yet. It is Arsenal’s (their management executives) fault that allowed Sanchez, Ozil, Chamberlain and Ramsey to run down their contracts until there is only one year left

Wilshere was a real Gunner, but he has moved on since Arsenal decided to prioritize Ozil over him

  3. Sell if a club is interested and if Ramsey agrees on the terms, otherwise use him as a box-to-box CM along with Guendouzi and Torreira behind them

He is not skillful and creative enough to be a no 10, but his stamina is a top notch

    1. True enough.. But Emery is still trying to work out his players and how they may adapt and fit for him.. Ramsey is being shown along with Ozil that they aren’t in the comfort zone anymore. Ramsey does have some worth to us and experience.

  4. He’s a box to box midfield, he’s good at that role. He will be even better with Torreira (or in a 3 with Guendozi). While okay as a CAM, Ozil is better (when he turns up).

    1. He is not good at all, and what is even a bigger problem, Wenger boostd his ego that he really thinks that he is a mega star.
I honestly think that if someone offers him a CF role he would go for it.
Maybe he plays FIFA too much like his fans who play more then watch real game.

      1. He’s not good at all, like for real, you think he has no good in his game ever. So when he outshines Bale for Wales its the Welsh all talking crap. When he’s in the running for Arsenal’s player of the season, even if you don’t agree with the vote, its AFC fans all brainwashed by Wenger I suppose. When he’s one of the highest scoring CM players in the division there is nothing to read into it. Yes I know he was injury cursed and only played bit part most of his career but to say he is not good at all ..well that sort of puts a dent in any statement you make from here on out.

        1. I dnt give a frakk that he was a player of the season (Monreal was real player of the season) when we finished 37 points behind ManCity and 14 behind 5pur2!
He is very limited player and if you can not see that it is your problem not mine.
And sorry, I dnt watch Wales games. I dnt care at all how he playes outside of Arsenal, and how he will play a day he s finally gone from the club.
On the end, tell me… when he is any good, where are those offers and interest from other clubs?
          None!
I think Ramsey is more popular on FIFA then in real life.
          p.s.
He is not the only one who is extremly overated… Loftus Creek and Barkley are the same… limited and praised just cos they are from UK. Sterling is on his high and now we will see how good he is when De Bruyne is injured. I predict that Sterling will leave the ManCity sooner then anyone think.
Gaza was the last with real talent !!!

          1. Totally agree with Maks, sorry Alice – you don’t know what you’re talking about – Ramsey is not Arsenal quality, he should have left with his sugar-daddy Wenger. AW was the only reason Ramsey managed to stay in the spotlight for so long, blind faith in mediocre players and now look where the old fool has left us… it’s not Emery’s fault he’s been left with a team full of 70% sh*te.

            1. So Emery is completely wrong as well is he?
Just think about the professional managers who have actually seen in him what Maks can’t.
Gary Speed made him the youngest ever Welsh international captain.
Unia Emery wants him to be the Arsenal captain.
Wenger signed him for£5 million and now worth upwards from £30 million.
Voted Player of the Year by Arsenal fans.
But of course the fans who voted for him no nothing compared to maks, ashburton and enda. They are so much more knowledgeable rhan all those above and Go Ask Alice how dare you differ from their opinions?
My opinion seems so pointless after this, but I will give it anyway.
Sell him immediately, not because of any of the c**p these three wise men have given, but because he is holding the club to ransom.

  5. Sad to think Jenkinson
    Holding Ramsey
    and Welbeck may only
be in the squad to fill the HG quota.
No English born player started for Arsenal v Chelsea.
Are there really only a dozen decent English players
among the 10 mill 20 something able bodied adult males in England?
Apparently so because our scouts could find no HG players worth buying.
We bought a German a Uruguayan a 3rd Swiss another Greek
and a 19 yr old French player even the young players signed were from overseas.
Paying to have a 200k p/w comatose HG corpse is just part of the PL deal.
Ramsey is only 27 so can always be sold for plenty in the summer.
Another point is that Ozil and Mkhitaryian are both hitting 30
so we need to cash in on them sooner than Ramsey.
Excited about having the HG English corpses wheeled
    out against the mighty Westham

    1. Just check every other top 6 team. Their contingency is hardly English. Pep has also fielded a team mostly without any British born players. It tells you more about the quality of the academies and the pricing market of the PL. They are not good enough, if you are better than the rest – you play. If you are not – you don’t. English players and their mentality to football needs to change. Harry Kane is only there because of his ability. It should be the same for everyone.

  6. What so special in Ramsey
Why is arsenal begging him to stay
I can just imagine this mess.
Did any of u see ball control of Guendouzi and Torreira and their movement with the ball……
And the board are begging someone who can’t make a sensible run with the ball, it’s time for change please we need to move on……….bellerin is time go can’t make simple can’t pick up passes, can’t defend, can’t even bully his mate(odoi of Chelsea) on till Guendouzi come close to the guy.Next season the board will be begging to give him new contract..just imagine xhaka and Guendouzi’s first touch and their movements with the ball ..

    1. I agree with you Eduardo 🙂
I think reasons why ramsey is still at the club are as follows:
      1. Welsh football Asc is paying Arsenal to play him
      2. When Wenger was sacked he demanded two things: 10 mil and ramsey to continue to play headless chicken at Arsenal
      3. No real offers came for this geniuous except from Chinese league, maybe
      4. He is British. If he is from anywhere else he would be hated by all the english fans
      5. Maybe he has some wierd pictures of Kronke or Gazidis so he is the boss here

      1. Dudu, its all well and good being able to pass the ball forward well. Ideally you want different ranges of skill from your players. Ramsey is not that type, he’s box to box and his game is about getting amongst the opposition and making dangerous runs into the box. We’ve had F all midfielders who were expert running off the ball, Ljungberg was excellent at it, Ramsey is good at it. You can pass the ball from midfield forward all you like but you need more than just strikers movement up there. Even when Ramsey has an iffy game, sometimes it will pass by how helpful he was just keeping a CB occupied. We need a range of different types but for some reason people always harp on about their favorite type.

        1. Wow-what we wouldn’t give to have Freddie Ljungberg in our team right now. That guy gave everything in an Arsenal shirt from his first game till last.

          1. Hell Yeaaah, now somebody gives a good example. I Agree with you Phil.
            Freddie forever!

            p.s.
Problem is that 98% of ramsey lovers did not watch Freddie play, maybe did see some of his goals and assists but if they see him play then they will change (maybe) opinion of ramsey and other Wenger s boys

            1. Maks what a t**t you are.
Do you have any actual FACTS?
Where did probably 98% come from?
Freddie was a Wenger boy you t**t.
Your nonsensical attempt at being clever and funny with your list of reasons why Ramsey is at Arsenal shows your complete ignorance of football knowledge.
Get rid of Ramsey because he is holding the club to ransom, not because he is British etc etc.

          1. Isn’t he another Wenger favourite golden boy?
Let’s sell him because he’s got pictures of Kronkie and Gazidis.
What a terrible shame he was injured in yet another horrific tackle against an Arsenal player.

  7. Yep need to get a good result against hammers and we are all waiting for what we all think is the right line up to start (give or take a few players for different reasons). Elneny must be gutted playing all pre-season then getting to warm the bench

  8. Ramsey just is not good enough to play further forward. His main attribute is driving from deep to make late runs into the box.He is absolutely replaceable and should not be demanding anything from the Club.Hes a decent midfielder and nothing more.If he had signed his contract then it’s a different story but he is the one who turned down the offer which I’m sure was a very good one.Its a shame AMN was done by Walker as I would have put him in the middle with Torreira and Guendoizi but we will have to wait for this a bit longer.

    1. Jeez Phil, I was beginning to despair of any intelligent posts on this subject.
With only ten days left before the window closes, I think we should force the issue and put him up for sale immediately.
Completely fed up with players thinking they are bigger than the club.
      .Why is it happening again?
Without being negative, what is Huss doing?

      1. Hi Ken-Huss I imagine is waiting to start with a clean slate as he cannot be held responsible for the Ramsey contract situation. But I too am disappointed in Ramsey. He is a good player and we need good players but not so they can hold the Club to ransom. He is replaceable but do we have anyone to step up if he is sold abroad this summer?Probably not.I believe this is the sort of situation that Ramsey will miss Arsenal more than we will miss hi.

  9. I reckon its just the club trying get him to accept less than others have gotten, the guys near the 200 mark. We already heard something about the wage bill needing to be slashed. There might be allot of new faces but its still the same old board. The difference this time is some fans don’t mind them penny pinching with a current player.

  10. Let Ramsey go please
    He is just being selfish
If he score and we loose
10-1 or 8-2 he is ok.
We can’t even keep position again
Ramsey, bellerin, xhaka,Mustafa, wellback if fact most of our players that’s why Chelsea dominated us..and we are begging Ramsey who always gives ball away and smile ? new contract….middle table team player..Thank Wenger has gone..

  11. Lets examine some Ramsey facts. He has been here a full decade. He has been so often injured. His goals return for games played ratio is poor for a supposed top level team and player. His tendency is to play for himself. He does not track back, His assists ratio is also poor. oN THR OTHER HAND , HE IS A HARD WORKER EVEN THOUGH MUCH OF HIS WORK IS WASTED. HE HAS A KNACK OF SCORING KEY GOALS, OFTEN WINNING GAMES, But not often enough. So why is he still regarded by SOME- though very few Gooners on here seemingly, me included – as a valuable and top player? I have no answer to that, except that he has played well for WALES MOSTLY. BUT WHEN MAKING DECISIONS, I PERSONALLY, BEING AN ARCH REALIST, ALWAYS LOOK AT KNOWN FACTS AND MAKE A DECISION BASED PRIMARILY ON THOSE. BASED ON THOSE FACTS, HIS CURRENT WAGE IS MORE THAN AMPLE AND WE WOULD BE BETTER OFF WITHOUT HIM IN THE TEAM AND IN THE CLUB. Who can argue, with details as to why, please, differently?

    1. Because Wenger has influenced his career here.. Give Emery time to build or find his true value 😉

    2. Jon well argued and discussed.
Could you please give Maks some ideas on how facts actually make for debate and not ridiculous statements that have no value whatsoever.

  12. Arsenal should be decisive in resolving the lingering Aaron Ramsey’s contract extention at the club on or before the rest of the European transfer deadline day closes. Because to leave the matter unresolved before the next January window for the PL will not be good in terms of the sales value in transfer fee that will a crude to the club which could drop significantly should Arsenal decide to offload him by then with only 6moths to go on his deal at the club.

I don’t think if Arsenal continue to keep Ramsey this summer without having him to extend his contract at the club will be good for Ramsey too as he may likely not keen to play to his 100% for the club knowing in his heart he has an unresolved contract extention issue pending at Arsenal which if after the rest of European window is closed and he is not moved on, he could leave Arsenal in next January window on a low transfer fee or on the bosman.

Anyway, I think the ball is in Ramsey’s court to play and convince Arsenal he deserves the substantial pay rise he’s alleged to has demanded for before he’ll extend. But let him first play remarkably well for the club in the PL and in other games by scoring many goals and gives many assists for Arsenal in games. And not to continue in his current lackluster display in games for Arsenal this season. Then, the club could give him a good pay rise to make him extend his staying at the club.

    1. We HAVE ALREADY SEEN WHAT HE CAN AND CANNOT DO OVER A FULL DECADE NOW. iF WE DON’T KNOW WHAT HE IS LIKE NOW, WE NEVER WILL. Emery has full access to videos gong back tears , as all managers have. Ramsey is NOT a triallist and we either rate him or we don’t , NOW. Like most others on here, I want him gone.

  13. When contract negotiations happened for Theo Walcott, he wanted to play strikers up front. So he got a huge salary increase and Wenger played him up front (the same season we finished 2nd to Leicester). Walcott was bad up front. Giroud went on a 12 match non-scoring streak. Actually Ozil helped us finish 2nd because of his 19 Assists and 6 goals. But imagine if we had Aubameyang or Lacazette and Torreira. We would have won the PL.

Point is Ramsey has had a try at being further up the field. He didn’t do well. He is a box2box midfielder and even that he hasn’t been doing well lately

Iwobi did surprisingly well. He deserves another shot

I am looking forward to watching the likes of Niles, Rowe and Nelson and see how Bielik does at Charlton Ath. Maybe they will become better players than Ramsey, Xhaka, Iwobi etc.

  14. Ozil is really a huge problem for Emery. He is an example of the incompetence of our previous Manager who granted him an unjustifiable pay rise. There is not room for Ozil and Ramsay in the type of pressing game favoured by Emery and of the two Ramsay fits best. The trouble is who on earth would buy Ozil on his present wages?

  15. With all the commenting about Ramsey the sum total is we know nothing, our guesstimate, our opinions, our beliefs our hot talking pundits who know everything we don’t know and the club aint telling.

So we don’t know but its good to think we know.

  16. Igwe (King Henry) did not chose his position to attack but it was his potentials gave him…

Rambo this is the highest level of greed… if this your demand.

    sign anything or leave.

  17. I’ve made the same point a few times now. He’s had the whole summer to make up his mind, give him until the end of this month to say yea or nay to a final offer. If he still wants to hold out for a free then let him train and play with the reserves which will seriously diminish his bargaining power at the end of the season.
