Report: Arsenal make contact over sensational Erling Haaland move

Well, this is certainly one to raise an eyebrow at.

Arsenal are reportedly among the clubs to have made contact with Erling Haaland’s representatives as uncertainty continues around Manchester City.

According to Football Insider, both the Gunners and Real Madrid have approached the Norwegian striker’s camp regarding the possibility of a future move, following the reports surrounding City’s Premier League financial case.

Could Arsenal really sign Haaland?

The report claims the initial contact concerns a possible move in 2027, with Arsenal apparently looking to position themselves should Haaland’s situation at the Etihad change.

That is quite some claim.

Haaland remains contracted to City until 2034, and the report adds that his deal does not contain a relegation clause. In other words, even if City were eventually hit with a major sporting punishment, there would be no automatic mechanism allowing the striker to simply walk away.

The Norwegian’s form certainly gives no suggestion that his standards are dropping either. He has started the season strongly and remains one of the most prolific forwards in world football.

That explains why Arsenal, Real Madrid and potentially several other elite clubs would naturally be interested if he ever became available.

Interest, however, and actually completing a deal are two very different things.

One to watch – but with plenty of caution

From an Arsenal perspective, it would be difficult to imagine many more dramatic transfers than Haaland moving from City to the Emirates to become a Gunner alongside his Norwegian captain, Martin Odegaard. Imagine!

Yet this story remains firmly in the speculative category.

There is no suggestion of an agreement, negotiation over a fee or even that Haaland himself is seeking a move. At this stage, the claim is simply that Arsenal have made contact with his representatives about a possible future transfer.

Still, given the uncertainty surrounding City, it is perhaps not entirely surprising that rival clubs are checking what opportunities might eventually emerge.

Haaland to Arsenal?

We’ll keep the sceptical eyebrow raised for now, but this is certainly one rumour worth keeping an eye on.

Would you take Haaland at Arsenal if there were ever a realistic chance to sign him, or is this one transfer rumour too far even for you? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Would pay whatever it takes to get him! And can’t really see him staying at City of they get relegated multiple divisions.

    Come on Martin Ø, have a word…

  2. Highly doubtful Haaland would rub more salt in the wounds of ManC fans joining Arsenal if he decides to leave them. The fee is going to be northwards of €200m and wages that Jr Vini could only dream of. The likes of Madrid and PSG need only sell one player for 100m+ to help fund the transfer and clubs will be queuing up for them.

  3. Oh to dream. Only needs 1 or 2 touches/chances and they become goals. Then pass, pass, sideways, backwards, pass, all the possession you like.

Would be a gamechanger combined with our defense, sprinkle in Dowman sub appearances just to gloat in the faces of other clubs.

Captain Odegaard, I hear he is your best mate, so………

  4. No. Don’t let them offload him onto us. Haarland is crocked. His feet are breaking unable to handle the stress.

It will be a disaster for Arsenal to sign Haarland. He will never be fit to be the Haarland of old again in his remaining career, which may be short now.

I always thought he was carrying too much weight to play the sport. He’s a big farm fed guy, who should be either in the NFL or playing rugby. Surprisingly, he was born in Leeds and does not have a release clause if City are relegated…🤔

      1. I don’t like to defend agents – vampires – however signing for Man City, requirement for relegation release might have been hidden behind the stack of money for goal bonuses. 😆

When young Erling was still growing, he had problems being fit to play, but they, as in fitness experts, concentrated on his “core” – likely just a bit more than where he keeps his pips – through diet, and it’s allowed him a few good years in a row of being available. Although we can see him unavailable for quite a few games this calendar year, hitting his match fitness, we don’t know how much training he’s missed to look so off it. The most lethal poacher was taken off against England, they wouldn’t have done that if he wasn’t spent. It’s not like he’s ever been perpetual motion, like Henry chasing down as example, but the movement from him just appears to be getting less and less does it not? By all means call me out as the only one in the thread saying don’t buy Haarland, if you don’t agree with my observations of him changing as an athlete.

They, as in fitness experts, can create these super elite athlete beings, as footballers are these days, but something is only as strong as its weakest facet, and with Haarland I am suspecting that is quite literally his Achilles Heel.

        1. PS something else I noticed, I don’t know if anyone else did, Saka got many minutes for England yesterday, or other day it is now outside Barbie land, he was hardly gliding over the pitch. Do you think he looked “heavy”? I think he looked “heavy.”

  5. I’ve been expecting this, and not just for Haaland. Which club that’s not fiddling the books can afford to pay his enormous wages of a reported appx £800K per week?

    1. Whilst as fans we think of player wages, and does he get something rolled up in his shoe after the game.
The new rules, SCR, spending is to a percentage of total revenue and exclude directors of football, chief executives etc, the change is to help clubs like the Newcastle example, the old rules based on a club’s total pre-tax profit or loss, the old rules brought Chief Executive (CEO), Director of Football etc in as clubs operating costs.

I think the change made is good, it helps clubs grow as clubs and businesses, whilst focussing on keeping playing budgets fair – competitive Premier league top to bottom, money can’t buy you the title every year, hence not a farmers league – so importantly the whole world wants to see competitive football, not just tune in for the big “old firm derbys.” Hence also the CL revamp and wish for top Euro clubs to for super league, hence people not even interested in sport are investing, it’s about money. License to print it, envy at others having more of it.

Inaccurate details regarding manager remuneration falls foul under old and new rules, a “secret contract” to pay manager an extra, off-the-books salary via foreign based club to hide the true extent of their expenditure falls foul under new and old rules. Old rules it falls foul under for club Executive and administrative salaries too – so it’s not just player wages to look at.

  6. If we needed Haarland we could find a way to buy him and slot into one of our teams, but he is contracted to our major oppenents and I’m sure they would make sure he couldn’t transfer to us, in fact I believe Roy of the Rovers a more realistic target

  7. First there was Vinicius Junior, then there was Alvarez. And now it’s Haaland, oh my days. Just when will these fairy stories ever end. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

              1. Jax,

Comedy partners, there’s me, Bruised Banana, Chris S, and Reggie. That’s 4, you can make it 5 anytime.

You’re still more than welcome to join anytime if you wish, It’s never to late. 😂😉

  8. One can only dream of having Haaland in their team. Alas, he’s not going to move to a rival team, even if his best friend is captain. We have to accept this reality and move on.

  9. Just a thought on Mancheater City’s fans at their coming games.

How ironic it will be when you hear the chant same old (whoever their playing), always cheating. How many of them will be singing that with a straight face.

And another thought, I would love to see opposition fans doing what I believe is called the Poznan, where the fans stand with their backs to play jumping up and down. Now that’s what I call comedy. 😂😉

  10. DEREK
You gave a clue to the cheerleaders; hope we’ll see Poznan in various stands whether City play or not.
It’s funny when the EPL yesterday issued the findings the City website immediately came up with a call to vote for Goal of September.
