Arsenal are keen to sign Julian Alvarez this summer and have reportedly agreed a swap deal that would see Viktor Gyokeres move in the opposite direction, according to Fichajes.
The Gunners have monitored Alvarez for a long time and are aware of Atletico Madrid’s position after seeing the Spanish club reject approaches from Barcelona and Real Madrid during this transfer window.
Alvarez wants to leave Atletico Madrid for Barcelona, but the attacker may have limited influence over where he moves if the Spanish side decides to sell him to another club. Arsenal are now hoping to take advantage of the situation and bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

Atletico Madrid do not want to lose one of their most important players, but an offer involving cash plus Gyokeres could be attractive enough for them to consider.
The Gunners believe the proposed agreement could benefit all parties, with Arsenal adding a proven attacker while Atletico receive a replacement and financial compensation for allowing Alvarez to leave.
Arsenal are now waiting to discover Atletico Madrid’s response as they look to understand whether the Spanish club would be willing to negotiate over the proposed transfer.

Why trade that for someone in love with another club, one he wants to fulfill a dream with?
Gyokeres stood his ground, wanted Arsenal only, and cut agent fees and signed for less. Gyokeres left it on the field every match.
Why trade Gyokeres for Alvarez, who clearly wants elsewhere; in fact haven’t seen him really mention Arsenal much at all.

Apart from the fact that Álvarez wants elsewhere, i.e. Barça, he may score goals but he he is no more prolific than our Viking Vic. Comparing their goals last season, I did my Transfermarket number crunching (apologies to the pundits out there who love to blind us with science):

Apart from having a tongue-twisting near impossible to correctly pronounce name (heads up: the G is silent), I wouldn’t exchange our bustling, elbowing, barging, hair-wiping Swede for JA, no way! Besides, his sheer physicality opens up lush green spaces for our goal greedy forwards.

It would be a great mistake to try such, as they are two different types of players. They are two players that the best of each will come out playing together. I hope they’re not thinking Harvertz can do what Gyokere does. The boy should be where he wants to be and let Gyokere remain where he also wants to be. Let Harvertz go the other way instead.

Completely agree. Gyokeres brings us tenacity and pressure, he never gives up and never stops fighting. His physicality is another dimension to our game. I understand these are qualities appreciated by Athletico as well, but we seem to need those more.
If that rumor of Athletico’s interest in Martinelli may be true or some other forwards, like Havertz, in our current roster may become desirable by Athletico, I would entertain the idea.
Honestly, given Alvarez simply wants Barcelona, we may want to look somewhere else. Why bring in a player to make him unhappy.

Critically our left wing and some aspects of the midfield need strengthening. With these weaknesses Gyokeres hasn’t disappointed for his first season.
A bit consistent and quicker transitions, a more tenacious left winger, good and consistent attacking midfield plus Saka will certainly unlock Gyokeres for greater returns.
This will improve us far more than having Alvarez at the cost of Gyokeres.

When was the last player swap deal in the Prem? Was it not Mkhitaryan and Sanchez about 8 years ago? These kind of deals don’t really happen anymore.
However I can see some truth in signing Alvarez outright. Yes I understand he wants Barca, but I don’t see Atletico selling to them at all, and it seems like Alvarez has damaged the relationship with Atletico to an extent. Just because we may not be his first choice, doesn’t mean he is going to come here and play badly. I am sure that most players have a “dream club” that they actually never play for. Players are professionals, look at Semenyo for example, I am pretty sure Arsenal would have been his first choice.
Also, Arsenal and Barca have a decent relationship. We could have some sort of agreement with them regarding a future sale from Arsenal to Barca.
Leave the Argentine to join Barca or whomever else.
May not even be a good ‘fit’ for Arsenal, goals not withstanding.

Personally, I hope the transfer, if it happens, isn’t concluded that way.
Gyokeres fought hard with Sporting CP last year to get the Transfer to Arsenal done, that showed commitment to joining Arsenal, and also, that would have helped Arsenal gain leverage on the Final Transfer Fee.
OK, Last season Gyokeres, in his FIRST season back in the Premier League, the toughest Football League in the World, didn’t score the same number of goals as he had consistently scored in previous seasons in a, let’s be honest, considerably inferior league, but he WAS our highest Goal Scorer across all competitions, In his FIRST season, a season when we won the Premier League by 7 points, with a game to spare – we reached the Champions League Final, losing by a whisker on penalties, and reached the League (Carabao) Cup Final – losing in my opinion due to 2 goalkeeping errors by Kepa.
Gyokeres FIRST season, just finished, was a ‘settlement and adaption’ season, as it essentially is for most new arrivals at new clubs, especially in the Toughest League in the world.
He was our top scorer, which is why we bought him in the first place – and we had our most successful season in 22 Years.
That is NOT a coincidence.
And he is FULLY Committed to Arsenal.
It’s highly likely – in my humble opinion, that in his second season, with ‘settlement and adaption’ behind him – he’ll hit the ground running and could very well have a great season.
FIRSTLY – He’s the WRONG Player to be swapping out.
SECONDLY – This is the WRONG Season to be Swapping him out.
If we do get Alvarez AND keep Gyokeres – Imagine the potential goal threat that would provide.
HOWEVER:
Alvares preferred Club is Barcelona who can’t get him from Athletico, but will constantly be trying to get him from Arsenal.
AND HE WANTS TO GO TO BARCELONA
We could be losing a fully settled COMMITTED Player in Gyokeres – ( and paying maybe £60M) for the sake of getting a Player who is likely to agitate in every Transfer Window, for a move ASAP to Barcelona, his preferred Club, AND be hassled in every Transfer Window, by his preferred club, who have made it OBVIOUS they want to sign him.
It seems like we’re all in agreement on this one
