Report claims Arsenal stars prefer Carlo Ancelotti to inexperienced Mikel Arteta

According to the Mirror, as Arsenal near the appointment of former captain Mikel Arteta as their next permanent manager, the side’s senior players are thought to have wished for Carlo Ancelotti to take over at the Emirates.

Mirror Sport claim that Arteta could now face some issues with some of Arsenal’s high-profile players should he be appointed by the Gunners.

The report highlights that the dressing room respects Arteta for his service to the Gunners, although they believe their current situation calls for someone of Ancelotti’s standing in the game.

Arsenal look to have missed the chance to bring the vastly experienced Italian to north London as Sky Sports News claim that the 60-year-old has agreed a deal to become Everton’s boss.

Arteta has been acting as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City since hanging up his boots.

Ancelotti was only relieved of his duties at Napoli last week, the Italian led the side to the knockout stages of the Champions League but the team’s form in Serie A was disappointing.

There’s absolutely no question that Ancelotti is currently the most experienced manager that is out of work, the only other high-profile names that could be available would be Mauricio Pochettino and Massimiliano Allegri.

Ancelotti has won the Champions League a total of five times as both a player and manager. The Italian’s illustrious post-playing career has seen him manage Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Should the Italian return to the Premier League with either Arsenal or Everton, he’d be back in England’s top-flight 8 years after leaving Chelsea – where he completed the league and FA Cup double in his first season.

  1. They (the players) should keep quiet and play their game. They are part of the problem except that it is easier to replace a coach than all the players.

    1. The way I think of “our gang” right now, as soon as they (allegedly) said we prefer Ancelotti – he was immediately struck from the list, say that half-tongue-in-cheek…

  2. Kick the rotten apples out of the club.Support the coach, Freddie as on date. Those not willing to respect the club can submit transfer requests.Enough is enough from these bunch of nobodies.Sick and tired of them pulling my club down each game. Shame on those throwing temper tantrums on the pitch.Shame on those giggling on the pitch after a defeat.

    1. I hope that Freddie lands on his feet as he has been thrust into an absolute no-win situation. I guess I hope that somebody else can do better, but part of me is afraid that the rot is so deep.

      1. Whoever prefers to work under Ancelotti should move to Everyone. It’s that simple. The last thing we need is a toxic dressing room

  3. I’ve been saying on here for a while that certain players are causing the problems. Now they think they can pick the next manager. Says it all really

    1. Just publicly reveal them. Lets see how they like their arrogance when fans start egging their cars and homes.

    2. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. To believe the Mirror is to believe the fortune teller at a fair. They and other journos would do anything to show Arsenal in the worst possible light.

  4. The arsenal “stars” are not in a position to decide who is best suited to get them out of the situation THEY created. There is literally not one indispensable player in the squad at the moment (besides possibly Leno). If any of them don’t want to work (Auba and Ozil included), pack your bags and leave. None of you are playing worth a $hit and you should focus on fixing your effort rather than who the manager will be.

    1. Exactly. As far as I’m concerned none of them are stars so don’t know where their egos have emerged from considering everybody outside of Leno and Martinelli has been playing pathetic football all season.

  5. I know what am talking about and no one would listen. I have been saying this for the umpteenth time. Our best team and formation are these players. A combination of pace, energy, grit and determination suitable for the way the EPL is being played this season. Call Nketiah back, he has the same energy levels as Martinelli. Our defense is still the weak link but that midfield and attack will put up a fight to win games with forward passes rather than side-ways and back passes. Mikel Arteta will play these players for a change and we will see the difference immediately. His training sessions will be quick play and possession football from the players with confidence….watch out.

    4-1-4-1

    Pepe———-Lacazette—-Martinelli——Saka/Nketiah

    4-3-3

    1. I am not sure that best is good enough. Bellerin and Chambers haven’t been good – Maybe they will improve but maybe they won’t, current form is not good enough. Holding and Tierney have potential but are injured. When Tierney has played he hasn’t really been great. Holding was good last year. Maybe they don’t get better…I could make an argument that we need 4 at the back and some of these people will be fantastic squad players (I would also like to see Chambers play as the 1 in your formation).

I wouldn’t mind seeing the 4-1-4-1, but you have to promise me that the back four can play to their potential. I am skeptical and I am not sure that the front five can control the ball well enough and will work hard enough to control the middle.

I have even less faith with those people in a 4-3-3 for same basic reasons.

But you know what Ljunberg, I would love to see if it worked, we don’t really have anything to lose by trying it.

And if we actually got better players in key positions, then another formation might be more effective.

  6. I hope Arteta comes in and gets rid of the big egos. We need to change the culture of the club. We need a complete reset with players who are hungry and desperate and play for the badge. We don’t need any Big Egos.

Transfers I would make for the summer.

-If the rumours of Real Madrid wanting Auba for Jovic & cash we must take it. Or try to get Jovic and Cellabos with no cash.
    -Sell Laca for $50m+
-Sell Xhaka (& Torreira if he wants to leave) to anyone to buy Thomas Partey & Ibrahim Sangare/Denis Zakaria
-Buy Upamencano & another CB (Kamara)
    -Buy a right back
-Sell the deadwood – Ozil, Miki, Elneny etc

    1st team
    Leno
    Bellerin Upamencano Salilba Tierney
    Partey Sangare/Zakaria
    Martinelli Cellabos Pepe
    Jovic

    2nd team
    Martinez
    NewRB Holding Chambers Kolasinac
    Guendozi Willock
    Saka ESR Nelson
    Neketiah

  7. The reports seem to me like a good old journo Arsenal-hating action. I don’t know if there was ever bigger hate than the one journalists feel and openly express towards Arsenal. This is the best time to be a journalist in the UK. Arsenal is on the ropes and if something can be done to knock it out, why not do it? Talking about the players wanting only Ancelotti seems to be an uppercut that journos are aiming at the club’s chin.
