Rosicky to Return for Arsenal, but is this his Last Hurrah? by AT
With Arsenal in the midst of an injury crisis, especially in midfield, the Gunners are set to receive a massive boost on the injury front as veteran midfielder Tomas Rosicky is set to return to full training in three weeks time, and could be available for selection by mid-January.
The Czech Republic international hasn’t featured for Arsenal so far this season, after suffering a serious knee injury while on international duty in the summer but is all set to return to first-team action and give Arsene Wenger some much needed alternatives in midfield. The Gunners boss confirmed the imminent return of Rosicky, saying: “In three weeks he [Rosicky] could be back in full training.”
Despite having not made a single appearance for Arsenal so far this season, I believe that Tomas can make a significant contribution to the team in the second half of the campaign. He can play in central midfield, behind the striker or on either flank, giving the team more options in attack and his energy will surely give the team more dynamism going forward. Not to mention, his experience will be vital as Arsenal look set to fight for the title.
But with his contract set to expire in the summer, this might well be Tomas Rosicky’s last hurrah at the Emirates. But in my opinion, I really think his services can be retained. Despite being 35 years of age, the Little Mozart is still as explosive as he was when he first joined in 2006 and still possesses the ability to run at defenders, find a defence-splitting pass and also has a good shot on him.
In addition, he is not a player who will expect a hefty wage package or a guarantee of regular first-team action to stay. The fact that he is in his tenth year at the Emirates speaks volumes of his love for the club. Besides, he is adored by Arsenal fans far and wide and it will surely be a good touch to see him retire as an Arsenal player.
