Shall we help Wenger with some explanations for Arsenal’s terrible performances?

There are a lot of explanations for Arsenal’s performances, Arsene. by Konstantin Mitov

So Wenger failed to find a rational explanation for our defeat at Swansea last night, but I’ll happily give you some, because there are so many we can talk about them all day. The first and foremost reason is the problem that fails to spot itself. I’ll give you a hint, it’s Arsene Wenger.

He cannot motivate the players, who honestly look like they don’t care. Out of the players who played yesterday only Ozil and Monreal deserve their place. Mustafi and Bellerin are hugely suspicious, but I’d give them the benefit of the doubt, because after all they are playing for a terrible manager. The rest of the squad is pure rubbish and I’m not over exaggerating here!

Granit Xhaka is probably the worst player Arsene has signed since Andre Santos! There is no need to comment on his defensive capabilities, because you can literally put me on the pitch and I’ll be as much help in defence as he is. Elneny at CB speaks enough, and if you wondered whether it’s the formation, it’s not it.

The way this team is coached is shameful to say the least. Right now every manager in the other 19 teams in this league would do a better job then Wenger, because he’d know what defending means – or at least would’ve heard it! We’ve conceded 2 less goals than Swansea. Think about it for a moment.

Now, we’ll sign Aubameyang, but even if we sign Messi, do you think he’ll make a difference when we leave 3 incapable defenders against 3 strikers and hope we don’t concede. And don’t get me started on Cech. The guy is dead! Finished, he is just like an Arsene. An old man, that was once good, but that is no longer the case.

But I can’t understand how was he not that bad at Chelsea, but perhaps the fact we didn’t sign his goalkeeping coach to keep another old and out of favor man has something to do with it. What do I know right? I’m just watching a circus every week, but calling Wenger a clown would be an insult to all clowns, as any of them would do a better job running this football club.

There is a reason people are called managers of a football club, because they manage it! We can change our head scout, change a few backroom staff members, add a director of football, but until the one sole person responsible for this mess leaves, NOTHING will change.

I was so hyped about Aubameyang, but now I cannot be excited about seeing him put on the famous number 14 shirt, because the people wearing numbers 33, 20, 6, 29 and 35 are so likely to start next game, it’s sad. I feel so bad for Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang I really do.

They have just destroyed their careers by joining this club, because be certain Wenger is staying AT LEAST until his contract runs out and despite obvious better choices like Tuchel and Ancelotti available, we don’t even consider them, because we don’t want to sack our accountant.

We’re signing another 50+ million striker in 6 months! Think about that for a moment, and then add up the results. We are conceding like mad, yet we bolster the attack? I like Aubameyang, I really do, I can’t believe he’s joining this sinking ship, who’s captain keeps putting on anchors like Xhaka and Elneny to help us sink faster!

And speaking of captains, who was the last real captain of this club? A person who led by example and gave everything on the pitch. Robin Van Persie. Hate him or not, the guy said it spot on – the club doesn’t do what it’s necessary to move forward.

While Arsene the deluded one is running this club, it’s IMPOSSIBLE to progress no matter who we sign. Gazidis said Wenger should be a catalyst for change and then he says we’re overachieving. I hope we lose the Carabao cup, because these cups have poisoned the club.

They are not even papers over the crack, because the crack is so big a new pipe is needed. There’s nothing that can seal the gaps, until Wenger goes, and if this means losing every game and finishing 10th, then so be it. How much more do we have to stand of this?

We do not deserve this for the prices we pay and the amount of fans this club has, but I’m increasingly positive that most fans realise that this thing called Arsenal PLC right now has absolutely nothing close to what Arsenal was 15 years ago. And the sole reason for this, the one thing that has never changed, the same thing that is here now and was 15 years ago, keeps telling us problems are everywhere else.

I’m sorry Arsene. There’s no longer anything to thank you for, because the memories are bad. More bad than good now and it’s time to say goodbye. It’s been time to say it for 10 years, but god how I wish fans at the Emirates would just show one huge Wenger OUT punch that knocks him out, but just like every other hope at Arsenal, this is never going to happen.

  1. cant say we are not looking for defenders which we did…but within a certain budget

sometimes its easier to play Fifa18 where u can easy sign a big name big tag defenders or strikers for 100m or 200m and still has 500m in the bank for more players….

it ain easy to manage a club in real life…ticket earnings alone may not even be enough to cover pitch maintenace, cleaning and training grounds expenses and more

    1. You’ve just proved konst point, with your defenders within budget. We are shipping in goals and the budget for a striker is 60m year the defence is Johnny Evans ffs

      1. With my maths we have a net spend of around £12m and saved thousands in wages this window and for that reason the fact we did not sign a experienced and commanding center half is not only bad its pure negligence by Wenger. You only have to look at our goal difference compared to the teams above us to see there’s something wrong however today a new man starts, the beginning of the end for a once brilliant manager but now not.

    2. We are one of the richest clubs in the world. We are much richer than Liverpool who just spent 75M in a defender.
We spent 110 million on 2 attackers, that means the money is there. It’s just that Arsene thinks he can get away with inexpensive defenders and defensive midfileders. Our league position year after year after year shows that he is wrong.

  2. Against everton we should try:

    Laca. Auba
    Ozil. Mhki
    AMN. Jack
    Kol. Monreal. Kos. Bel

Xhaka and mustafi have just pissed me right off amd need to be benched.

  3. My team when everyone fit.

    …………………Cech
    Bellerin..Mustafi..Koscielny..Kolasinac
    ……..Ramsey..Niles..Wilshere
    …………..Ozil……..Henri
    …………………Auba

      1. I know what you mean, I’d love nothing more than to drop JW and AR to the bench for two star players, and have a top class holding midfielder to bring in. Then I’d use a different formation, and sign a couple of CBs along with a top youngish goalkeeper. But I’d pick that there right now, minus Cazorla, because at least those three midfielders snap at players heels, we need that, and I think the lads up top should be able to trouble teams by themselves for most part, supported by one fullback and a midfielder when needed.

    1. No Laca? Drop Ramsey and play laca and and Auba up top together. Miki on the right, Ozil on the left. Jack in the middle with Niles as a DM since Xhaka can’t be trusted. Ramsey and Jack can rotate around injuries since neither stay fit long.

  4. Jesus o somebody is not happy!!

Not a bad window especially for Arsenal, its called shipping the deadwood & players who want/need to go! Brought in 2decent players, if we get a CB would be perfect but as this season isnt great might aswell plan for the summer then the CDM & CB could be brought in. Martinez to take no1 spot, Cech sold.

  5. 100% look at walcott he just bang two goals with everton, wenger humilate this club against man utd 8-2 how anyone can forget that
barchalona, chelsea, bayern, liverpool, man city. we became a joke and the most painful thing the fans are accpting that.

  6. Great post, couldn’t agree more about Xhaka. The guy isn’t at the required athleticism for the premier league.

  7. To be fair the pitch conditions at
Swansea were heavy, wet and slow.
I think we played really well
staying true to our passing style.
    But it cost us.
We should not feel ashamed to use long ball football in such conditions.
Swansea sat back, defended, did nothing then hit us on the break.
On a decent pitch and with PEA up front we will thrash teams soon.
Everton, City (In the cup) and Spurs better get ready for a hammering.

    1. You can’t succeed with long football with Lacazette up front. He plays strictly inside their penalty area.

  8. Rewarding deadwood with new contracts.
    Losing star players to rivals.
    Not believing in using dm’s
Not believing in wingers who can cross the ball.
    Not naming an actuall captain.
    Failing to prepare tactics.
Not being vocal enough during the matches.
At fault for creating a cult. The wengerits.
Penny pinching and the socialist wage structure of his.
Refusing to bring some legends back home. Managing wise.
    Refusing to bring Cesc back.
Failing to go instinct due of him being a Dino.
Refusing to go over odds to bring quality.
Biggest fault is his arrogance. Stubborn and very self cebtered.

    1. It doesnt matter who comes and go. Arsene is to comfortable and this needs to change. One needs to look at the table and ask himself is this is acceptable? We lose to the likes swanse and do act as this is not of a big deal. Brainwashing completed. Wenger needs to go. He is finished. I just hope for his sake that he somehow gets us into the finals. Wins and says his goodbyye. But the malaga in me knows that in case we win. He will extand his contract for some more years. lol. Hot and cold. Yes and no. inside and out. ??

  9. It is quite amazing how people think a new manager will take this club to glory. This article is all about frustration than any sort of analysis. The only thing that a new manager will bring to all fans is the feeling of change but not an actual result. Probably Wenger would produce better result than other manager with the same resources. Teams like Chelsea and Man Utd with all those investment suffer everynow and then, and all that you believe is a single manager will change the fortune.

    1. Probably not a good idea using Chelsea as an example when a new manager always brings them returned success… In many cases a new manager brings a revival to the teams. Look at Swansea now, they got in a new man and now have the scalps of Pool and Arsenal. City is another example of replacing managers. In fact, It seems all the big clubs who are successful make the choice to sack managers when the team is on a extended run of poor form. We’ve been on a extended poor run now for over 10 years in the league.. maybe we should try something new instead of waiting for something different to happen year after year

  10. Please it was just a bad day at the back….. Stop all the fuss. How about chelsea loosing, 3-0 at home to bournmouth? . The premier League gives us this intrigue from time to time. Didn’t Swansea beat Liverpool with 75m van dyke in the team?.. Let’s watch the next game and stop crusifying wenger…. What has pochetino and klopp won since they arrived? No one is killing them and they are even spending more money than we….. Gunner for life.. Let’s watch LMAO QUARTET ON SATURDAY.

    1. Stop comparing us to other teams to try to justify Wenger as though it’s not his fault.Of course it’s down to him and what’s more he KNOWS this yet continues to trust his archaic beliefs when all around the club it is known who is responsible.

      1. Stop trying to make this beyond a game in teams with millionaires. You did not bring Arsenal to this global level. You know who did?

        1. George Graham. Without his much drilled defence (plus Bergkamp and Wright and Merson who were also there already) Wenger would have won very little ….. and we would not have had to suffer him for the last 10 years of stagnation and decline.

    2. Bad day at the office?it’s always a bad day at the office, we’ve conceded the same amount of goals as Brighton,West Brom and Leicester.

  11. Stoke Watford Bournemouth West Ham Swansea Southampton WBA
    Total points dropped 18
    Total points gained. 3
    Same excuses from Wenger
OUR CLUB should not accept results like these. It is not inconceivable any one or three of these teams will be relegated.I was at every one of these games and what were the three constants in each of theses game?
1)We dominated possession in every one of these games
2)We did not win any of theses games
3)We did not deserve to win any of theses games.
The statistics don’t lie and Wenger is solely responsible for these results.Im not interested in the 2 penalties that were wrongly given against us at Watford and WBA.We should have been 3-0 down after 10 minutes at Southampton so these things even themselves out.
Just add 18 points to our total at the moment and see where we would be placed in the league.
How has this manager not been made accountable for this.

  12. Also, look at the points of the teams behind City. No-one is keeping up with them. I’d argue the gaps between teams are getting smaller due to the increased amount of money in the game. Obviously City are the exception because they are spending ridiculous money every year, but the rest of the league is pretty close.

We are only 8 points behind 3rd and if we had won last night that would have been 5 points. We can still salvage something from this season, but I don’t think we need to panic just yet.

A run of wins would be great to restore some fan faith!

    1. Let’s just say that we finish in 4th (which I don’t think we will but it’s a matter of opinion and I respect yours), is that something really to be proud of?

      1. Yes.

Look at cost of winning at City in terms of how much they spent over 10 years. United has spent more, much more, and what do they have to show for it?

We have 3 FA cups in five years.

This is the time of great parity as the EPL can get talent from anywhere now, and there are hidden talents that can do well in situation or the other.

The team will get in at central defense next season. Also at DMF. No guarantees. But, it is a good bet, as they will try others, and I would say that Niles at DMF is going to better, given he was to do well when we played as a left back.

        1. You can buy all the talent in the world but it is proved Wenger does not have the tactical nous to set teams up to defend

  13. The problem with Arsenal is not just about signing defenders. It’s more with the way the team is coached to defend. The team is very poor without the ball. They don’t close down opposing players well enough. If you watch a team like ManCity, every player defends; they don’t allow opponents that much time on the ball. Once in a while, Arsenal play this closing game and come away with decent results. Why they don’t do it on a consistent basis is what you find difficult to understand. Perhaps you are right, the manager is the real issue.
Somebody please get me a Luis Enrique!

    1. Wenger will simply NOT play like that. Even after all these years he still thinks he can triumph via beautiful attacking football. Pat Rice and Steve Bould know defending but they have been treated like Yes Men. Our entire game plan must change. When the next Manager does arrive he is going to face one hell of a task.

  14. Arsenal is the most vulnerable team defensively in the league when it comes to dealing with long punts forward. The players can’t even judge the bounce of the ball.

The only DMF the mans got in the last ten seasons is Matheiu Flamini for free, and Coquelin who later thought he can be Pirlo from that position.

But don’t worry Wenger will have you believe Aubameyang alone will turn our season. We don’t even have enough ball winners in the team!

  15. Excellent article Konstantin, summed up the problems perfectly. You say there’s not enough criticism coming from the Emirates crowd, you’re 100% right, its because 10% of the Emirates crowd went to Highbury. When I get out of my seat and scream at Wenger most of the “bods” around me think I’m mad, raising my voice, their not proper fans, most of them are tourists, the prices have drove the real fans away. I was finished this year after a lifetime of support but now we’ve signed Auba, a player I’ve wanted for the last three years , I’m in two minds. If we get rid of Wenger , bring in a top manager and defenders we could be seriously be challenging with City for next years title. We’re really not far away, we’ve just got to get this clueless manager out of our club. ASAP

    1. Surprised you weren’t kicked out for standing Kenny! I’m in the same boat as you, if a new manager comes in this or next summer I’ll keep renewing but if Wenger signs another contract that’s me done, I am not spending anymore of my hard earned money if he does.

  16. The author has been prolific… but confused, as he does not consider the data.

Arsenal was among the top five for most of this decade in not conceding goals. In the last three years the concessions have worsened as the team dropped between 5 and 10.

It is not that Wenger does not know. Or that the players are lazy.

What is really happening is a transition of the ELP from one that had 4 top teams to one that is increasingly powerful down to 10th while the lessor teams have full internationals too and can beat a top four team.

Yes, there is investment needed. Yes, not every player is going to work out. Trues for all teams, except the ones that are going to be among the leaders in a given year.

Going forard there is a completely new team being built around Ozil good for three years 2018/19… till 2021. The summer will see the arrival of new central defenders and DMF.

DMF of the Viera sort do not grow on trees. Ask Liverpool.

    1. With all due respect we’ve heard this same line since Gilberto Silva left, I won’t believe it until I see it and I don’t believe it will happen under Wenger

      1. No one is asking you to believe anything. It is football. Anything can happen.

Mine is an educated guess that after the stadium was paid off, there would gradual changes. Only Alexis has left. We won three FA Cups, and now have to rebuild to keep up with the top five teams above us.

So, we have the Brit core sent away being replaced by foreign talent. Good foreign talent.

In other words, it helps to keep track of what is happening. Those who are analyzing the team professionally know what is up… nonetheless there are other teams willing able to do more.

Still, I doubt we can win the EPL barring some mismanagement at Chelsea and ManU, which seems to happening, and then Pep also having a bad year in 2018-19, while the Spurs lose Kane and Liverpool implode unable to beat lower order teams that park the bus and hit you on the break.

The key is Pep. Maurinho wanted to stop Pep from get Alexis. In the process he has made is side’s fragile egos unbalanced. Wonderful.

Worst case scenario: can Pep replace his production next year? Yes. Will the other teams catch-up with him likely. Can we catch-up? Let us hope the the combo of the arrivals with the established player, and two more new defensive players and a proper right winger will give us a better chance.

  17. Poor (not financially) ? manager?
I honestly didn’t think we would lose but i had huge problems with the lineup namely starting all of Iwobi, Xhaka and Eleny. Xhaka and Eleny are our worst CM pairing. Iwobi isn’t good enough.
A defensive midfielder is part of the defense (like goalkeeper) and offense. We don’t have one or at least not good enough. We are weaker without Coquelin. Wenger not replacing him shows how little he thinks about the DM position.
He thinks all midfielders are there to attack, nothing else.

    1. And I agree with you 100%. We should have signed Nzonzi. Real Madrid have Casamero, Barca have Paulino and Busquets. Man United have Matic and Herrera. Man City have Fernandiho. Chelsea have Kante. PSG have Veratti. A pure DM should have pace, Quick and should be able to use both feet. Xhaka should be partnered with a pure DM. We have the squad now. We need a new manager. Luis Enrique is the perfect fit for the role. Wenger out Enrique in.

  18. Give the beast a chance in midfield he played there quite a few times for schalke and give chambers a run at centre back. I would have to stick with Cech for now, but we need a new keeper in the summer without fail. Martinez can be no.2 and macey 3Rd choice. My team for rest of the season
    ……………………..Cech
    Bellerin chambers Koscielny Monreal
    …………..Wilshire kolasinac
    ………Mkhitaryan ozil lacazette
    ………………Aubameyang

Ospina Mustafi Niles Elneny xhaka ramsey welbeck

  19. KM must be one miserable SOB. I have never seen a more negative person in my life. Smile for a change. Enjoy a good transfer window. We bought 3 exciting new players including one of the most prolific strikers in the world in Auba, and shipped 13(!) guys out. We clearly changed our stance on deadwood, and dealings in the transfer windows. We got a very talented recruiter in charge, and a new director of football operations. Yet here you are again, moaning and complaining about things without backing it with real facts. You’re talking about RvP who actually came out a couple of days ago, and said that Arsene is the best manager that he’s played for in his entire career. To me, your vendetta against Wenger is personal, and I won’t tolerate it. You’re a liar, KM, and you’re a clown, not Arsene.
