Should Arsenal accept supposed David Luiz-Giroud swap deal?

Chelsea have supposedly offered Arsenal the opportunity to swap Olivier Giroud foar David Luiz, which would in turn free up Michy Batshuayi and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to move also.

The Gunners have been actively in talks to try and bring the Gabon international to the Emirates this month, with Alexandre Lacazette struggling to find the form needed to help us vie for a place in the top four this term.

A deal is believed to be in place to sign PEA, but Borussia Dortmund are said to be delaying the completion of the transfer until they manage to land his replacement, and Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud are on their radar.

The French striker is believed to have turned down a move, with his family believed to be unwilling to leave London, opening up another avenue, with Chelsea now keen on Giroud’s signature, and the Blues are said to be offering David Luiz as part of the deal to sign our reserve striker.

The Brazilian has fallen down the pecking order this term, with Antonio Conte supposedly having had a falling out with the defender, before Andreas Christensen emerged through with a number of impressive performances, and is near-undroppable in the form that he has been showing throughout the campaign.

Our side has been on the look-out for an experienced defender to add to the ranks, and Luiz would certainly fit into that category, having won numerous trophies with Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, as well as having played a key role in helping the Blues to win the Champions League, and would be a huge boost to our team as we look to secure a spot in the top four, whilst also being available for the Europa League.

Should Arsenal jump at the chance to swap Luiz for Giroud? Would the Chelsea defender become our main man in defence?

  1. Yeah!!! Signing Luiz will mean gettin both DM and CB in one player… He’ll come good I believe…
It’ll be a good deal IMO

  2. As much as I really like David Luiz, he’s not called Sideshow Bob just because of his looks! Great defender one day but marauding wannabe forward the next.

    1. Look here.We have been selling our players to rivals and strengthening them.We need to do whatever it takes to have options on the bench.Wenger will assembly a strong striking force but with no proper DM to win the ball bag from opponents.

  3. We have got until 5pm UK time tomorrow to get this transfer triangle over the line due to the German window closing at that time.

    1. Sanchez was a rejected bench warmer at Barcelona before we rescue him, Mikhtariyan and Luiz are not bad players at all.

      1. Sanchez had Messi and Neymar against him. Plus he was sold because Barca wanted a better player (Suarez).

We have been getting only rejects from our rivals:
        – Gallas
        – Cech
        – Welbeck
        – Mkhitaryan

None of them have really made their mark at Arsenal (jury out on Mkhi of course).

When will we get a player from our rivals who they will actually miss? Because we have missed RVP and possibly Sanchez. TAKE THE MONEY, not 2nd rate players!

        1. I dnt want players from our rivals from PL to come to Arsenal. I would never sign Harry Kane or have Mourinho as manager. Cech was a good signing. Problem is that we dnt have a good replacement.
Also Mkhi will be good for us cos he was abused by Mourinho s defensive aproach to football game.

  4. Swapsies, I suppose both managers can meet in the playground at break and make the trade, just like back in the day when me and my mates traded pannini football stickers.

  5. I would prefer 30 year old Luiz to 30 year old Evans. Just sayin
Also Giroud is 31 himself so, not the worst trade ever
    Defenders last longer too
    Bags of experience
Also he could play with koscielny and mustafi in back 3 or play DM in front of the centre backs for 2-3 years at least

    1. I would prefer him than Evans too, 1 he gives us options, 2 he experience will be good for our young players.

  6. I am getting even more confused 🙁
I thought the Auba deal was finally
over the line done and dusted.
55mill. It’s all yours take him away.
    Batshuayi to BVB on loan.
    Giroud to Chelsea for 30mill.
Now it’s Giroud to Chelsea for Luiz and some cash.
    So what’s next?
Fabregas and Pedro to Arsenal for Ozil?
What about Morata to Arsenal for Aubameyang.
Wenger and kroenke to Chelsea for Conte and Abramovich?

    1. Deal is agreed Barry but Dortmund won’t sign it off till they get a replacement, hence the merry go round.

  7. Am I dreaming? Luiz will collect shirt from anybody in Arsenal defence line up.
Please can it happen in the next 30.minutes?

    1. He either plays as the centre of a 3 with Mustafi and Kos either side of him or as a holding CDM when we play with 4 at the back.Wenger must never play him as a centre back in a 4.
Forget age.Giroud is not needed and Luiz is a far better option for us than Evans. He is far more adaptable th@n Evans in terms of where he can play and is better value.

  8. Arsenal and transfers, never a simple affair, come 5 O’Clock tomorrow we will know whether we can go to sleep at a reasonable time or be searching the internet or every reliable news outlet past midnight

  9. Yes, Wenger can turn him into a great DM! At least a strong experienced CB! With Giroud swap, it is no brainer.
If we get PEA and DL plus HM, that is important talent upgrade. Selection of defense ..Nacho, bellerin, MaitlandNiles, mustafi, LK, The tank, DL And CC/Rob Holding.
Midfield of GS, JW, MElnany, Ramsey, Divid L, AMNiles,
Forward line of: ALex Lacazette, Ozil , iwobi, PEA (faster and more lethal Giroud), HM (Rosicky replacement).
We definitely can finish top four and improve chance of winning two trophies. Do it Arsene

  10. Rather we get the money. Surely we can collect at least £25-30 millions from Chelsea for Giroud.

We can’t find a better defender than Luiz for £25-30 millions?!

    1. sadly we cant top defender like umiti and varane cost at least 70m and above….

even 75m van dirk couldnt save livefool from conceding

  11. I think its a decent swap, but this AUBA deal is taking forever. Can’t wait for this window to be shut.

  12. Why is welbeck not being considered? Hahahahaha. Giroud will still be back up for morata so what is he switching to chelsea for? I wonder who is advising him…. Oh I forgot his wife is a strong influence. The best deal for Giroud is to move to dortmund than switching the arsenal bench for chelsea bench. After all he is a replacement for batshuayi and batshuayi was a bench machine at chelsea.

    1. Because we were desperate at the time and United seized the chance to rip us off with Welbeck. £16 millions for him, and that was 4 years ago when the fees weren’t as inflated.

Now Chelsea is desperate and we could rip them off with 31-year old bench player. But will we seize the chance or get ripped off again getting another bench player instead of cash?

  13. Giroud to chelsea hurts cos he ll score at lot. Chelsea bests every pL team at crossing. David lius would be great at arsenal.

  14. If it happened I would be quite happy with it. He is also a DM so that’s another good option to have.

I don’t get why a too team would even look at Giroud. He hasn’t had one good season yet in this league.

  15. ‘Off the rails’

What a mess. Wenger, essentially, HAS to play both Auabameyang and Lacazette together. Essentially, a 4-4-2. I cannot see how either will be happy playing in a wider role (e.g. Sanchez’s position) and doing defensive/tracking duties.

If this is the case, then just stick to Lacazette AND Giroud if he’s going for 4-4-2. Why hasn’t Wenger tried this?

As I think Aubameyang is a world class player, i’m very concerned by his vanity and off field behaviour and feel he might go ‘off the rails’ in London. For instance, why hasn’t Klopp attempted to buy him in the past?? There’s something Klopp knows about the player’s attitude that we don’t.

  16. Getting Luiz would mean no to Evans, good deal. However, the cash deal would have been better, activate Calvaho’s $35mil release clause. Anyhow, getting Luiz and Auba would be good but Wenger needs to spend $200 mil in the summer for CBs and a DM otherwise it wont matter if we have Neymar, Messi and Aguero, we will still concede as much as 19th placed West Brom. We really need both defenders and defensive organisation and honestly we should already be preparing for next season. No way we are catching up this season….

  17. I am the only one who thinks we are wasting money on PEA. C’mon guys we all know with inclusion of mkhi in our present attacking mixture we dont need PEA.
Where we are heading form the team which was having all talented young players to oldage house.
PEA is 28. But if still wenger want to invest then why not lemar, Malcom…or someone who Have atleast 6 to 7 years of foorball left in them.
Spurs are buying moura for 25 million and he is 25 years old.

  18. Mustafi is way better than the overated Luiz who was once called a headless chicken in defence.. Arsenal scouts have been gambling alot with defenders since the times of Senderos, sylvestre, Sebastopol squillaci and Chambers. Why not just go for a proven player like kalidou coulibaly of Napoli.. WTF!!!

  19. obviously i hope that PEA will be coming but this should not be linked to a volatile has-been like Luiz … our approach to transfers is still all over the place despite new recruiters … no other top club gets in to the mess we get in to … need to ask why that is

    1. Luiz deal can do, Chelsea’s back 3 last season was built around him and without him it looked out of place, he’s a far better player than Evans and he can defensive midfield well compared to what we currently have. Giroud has been an average player for us who has failed to score 20 plus goals ever since he came. If this happens it will be one of the best transfer window for us in a long time.

      1. As much as we need a top class defensive midfielder who I don’t see us signing this January, we are better off bringing Luiz as he is capable of playing that role. Besides, he is a far better defender than Evans with a winning mentality
