Should Arsenal fans calm down after Liverpool and Tottenham clash?

While this one result is not likely to have a great deal of bearing on Arsenal and how the season ends up for us, it does throw up a few issues that I personally think bear looking at and taking into account at the end of a week when we have lost the plot once again.

The fans who will be the most happy about Liverpool beating Tottenham at Anfield today will be those of the Chelsea persuasion, because it has just about confirmed the title and a win away to Burnley tomorrow should be that for Antonio Conte’s side.

Arsenal fans have our own reasons to look at this result though, not just because we love to see anything bad happen to our north London rivals. For one thing it makes our fight for the top four look easier but I think it tells us something about our own title challenge as well.

The spuds have been looking strong but were awful today and that can happen. The problem for us this season is that it has not happened to Chelsea since we spanked them in September, but they have had no European football and no injury problems to cope with.

Spurs lose a first choice defender in Vertonghen and people point to that, while Liverpool losing Mane seems to have had a big negative effect on them, but no one gives Wenger the same leeway for Arsenal even though he almost always has bigger squad problems to cope with.

Man United spend more money than most small countries and are still struggling for the top four while Arsenal fans expect it at the very least despite the club’s relatively small transfer budget, so are we forgetting how hard it is and how much needs to go our way in order to win an EPL title?

It has been a tough week but do we need to look at the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham and just calm down a bit?

  1. How does Liverpool 2 – Totttenham 0 mean that Arsene Wenger has been doing a good job at Arsenal over the last 10 years. FFS!

  2. I’m at a point where I only focus on Arsenal matches and look at the table every Monday. When we lost to Chelsea the fun of the PL left for me.

Even with the loss they should still be head of us. To be honest if they finish ahead of us they will have deserved it.

I can only hope we finish our remaining matches strongly, maybe somehow win the FA Cup and show some heart and quality in CL.

  3. Calm because Sp*ds were beaten when that did not hand us the trophy?
Look we should be fighting for the trophy and to aim at just finishing above Sp*ds.
12 points behind the leaders and we should celebrate when they are not the one losing?
    Please have a rethink.

  4. While I understand that winning a competition is also a consequence of what other do, I can’t fathom the idea that there will be no St. Totteringham day for me.

  5. Is this article meant to make US fans feel good or bad? I don’t care about SPUD winning or losing I want my team to win matches and trophies, Admin you have to be sensitive to we the reader’s on this website and stop allowing fans like Bob brainwash us with his articles, we are underachieving as a team and club that’s the FACT, so don’t try and start sugarcoating anything for us because Liverpool won spuds, the point is ARSENE and the BOYS have failed us again and they owe us the fans big time.
