Should Arsenal go for Coman or Meyer if we sell Ramsey?

The longer the Aaron Ramsey decision on a new Arsenal contract rumbles on, the more likely it is that he will be leaving, and with Danny Welbeck also entering the last year of his contract they are both expected to be moved on in the next couple of weeks.

But who should we bring in as replacement for the expected cash injection? According to Sportfr Arsenal have made a 50million offer for Kingsley Coman from Bayern Munich with reporters claiming our interest is genuine.

The 22 year-old French international is obviously talented and may well be worth the money, but another 22 year-old Bundesliga star is available for free in the shape of the ex-Schalke winger Max Meyer, who was claimed as the “German Messi” not so long ago.

He is still available which is supposedly due to his high wage demands, but considering his age and the fact that there will not be any transfer fee surely he could easily be snapped up by the Gunners if Ramsey decideds not to re-sign?

Who would you choose?

  1. IDK about Meyer, but I watched Coman in Champions League and he was as explosive as Douglas Costa/ Ludovic Giuly

However, Aubameyang can also play in Coman’s position (left wing) very well

If Arsenal really want to get another right-footed winger, they had better chase Adama Traore (I’m waiting for complaints about this name :D), that is available around 18M, which is much cheaper than Coman. Otherwise they had better get Douglas Costa, Leon Bailey or Malcom

      1. Not too impressed by Rebic. In my opinion, the best dribblers that have most successful take-ons in World Cup are Mbappe, Hazard, Isco and Messi

I’d prefer Perisic, but he is almost 30 years old

    1. Meyer’s not even better than Wilshere.
As for Coman he’s only rated because of his dribbling and has not improved since his PSG days.Like Pavon,Guedes and co all he is just another dribbler with poor decision making. Not good enough to fill Ribery’s or Robben’s boots and that will soon be evident.
These things are very hard to teach and I doubt decision making can be coached into a player else the number of players who’d be world class would be astonishing.

The ideal player for us is Lozano and from the World Cup alone he proved he’s not only a dribbler but has fantastic decision making. These are the kind of teenagers I want. For e.g AMN will be world class because not only does have talent but his football IQ and decision making is that of a player who’s more than likely to be world class.

      1. keV please tell us why are Hazard and willian rated. With the kind of publicity Hazard is getting you will think he is on the same level with Messi in terms of goal scoring.

    2. Considering Juve jst made Douglas Costa’s loan frm Bayern permanent this summer, i very much doubt his availability… otherwise i’d prefer him

    3. Not this traore crap again? Another headless chicken whose stats are about half of walcotts.

If we are going to spend cash on a winger then lets get one that is at least half decent, if not grab bernard on a free.

But lets think about all the homegrown that are leaving with no replacements?? Anyone remember there is a 17/25 rule? We can go in with 17 non-homegrown and none of the other but my opinion is we need a bigger squad than that, unless, we are focusing solely on the league and let the non-homegrown and under 21/23s play everything else

  2. I figured if we were to sell ramsey, we would replace him with like for like. that is a box to box midfielder. Ramsey is not a winger. Coman would be more ideal as a welbeck replacement. That is if we sell welbeck. i would prefer AMN to fill in the boots of ramsey should he decide to leave rather than getting Andrés Gómez. A Barcelona fan said his shit dancing in water was better than Gómez. we’ll see how the next three weeks pans out.

  3. I’ve never seen Meyer play, but I guess he’s no wonderkid if he’s still available on a free! His wage demands may be high, but with there’s no transfer fee, so that wouldn’t put off ANY top club he is really that good.

Coman I’ve barely seen play, but seems decent, although a HUGE transfer fee I’m guessing.

I suppose beggars can’t be choosers, we just badly need a winger! Zaha?

      1. Perhaps its because Unai feels we don’t need a winger. Who would you drop to fit Lozano (who I like) into the the starting line up? Auba? Laca? Miki? Ozil?

  4. Meyer is more in the mould of Jack Wilshire a cm, I read he was deployed more this last season as a deep laying playmaker, he’s free and could be worth a punt but he’s not a winger, he’s young and can still improve. If we can get Coman I’d go for him. Ive read some dumb rumours this window but the latest dumbest is loaning of Welbeck who’s in the last year of his contract with an option to buy, to Newcastle, my guess you shouldnt always believe what you read.

    1. Opposition players will run rings around this defence. Its so overrated I can’t believe people have fallen for it.

      1. How do you come to that conclusion when you have not seen them playing together under Emery. It is funny how you talk with overly certainty when you can’t even check for fact about Welbeck contract situation before you put it out here for us. Can i ask you how much do you think wilfried Zaha worth in today’s market when you think Welbeck isn’t worth 20-25m.

  5. High wage demands Sam P?

Ramsey wants more than DOUBLE what Meyer is asking.

Offer to Ramsey is EXTREMELY generous. Why didn’t he get a fitness clause like Jack had?

Ramsey is pulling a Sanchez on Arsenal I believe. Hopefully they pull contract off table after MONTHS and MONTHS of fruitless negotiations.

He’s holding out trying to bluff until its too late to sell him, and club has to offer him all he wants.

No other club offering him such high wages, why Arsenal allow it is maddening.

Guess he still waiting for that Barcelona phone call, aye? Me too Ramsey, me too.

    1. :-)) … Welbeck Iwobi Ramsey should net around 60m plus stir in another 10m then bring in a couple of quality options … And hey presto ready to go

    2. Look at what jack done for the club compared to ramsey. I think ramsey achieved more in one terrible season than wilshire did in his best.

Even iwobi has about as many goals and assists as wilshire. Fact is he was a massive underachiever like so many in the last 14 years. After all the injuries At least ramsey has 3 fa cups to his name or did he miss some too?

  6. 4141
    Leno
    Lichsteiner chambers Mavropanos kolasinac

    L. Torreira

    L. Perez Mikhi AMN Coman

    Aubameyang

That’s Emery’s favourite 4141…Auba and Mikhi can be rested for Lacazette and Ozil if need be

    1. 4141 allows for good pressing, that is what Emery said about the tactic, I never read that is was his fav… other than assumptions.

The players we have can allow for a 4141 to happen when we are high up the field and pressing to win the ball back in the oppositions half… Then when we have the ball and looking to score we can swap to a 433, the ‘wingers’ tucking in and pushing up as inside forward to be an additional goal threat.

Using exactly the same players as you, I would list the starting line up with the impression being given that we are the main character… So the formation we use when we are in control.

      Leno
      Lich-Chambers-Mavrop-Kola
      AMN-Torreira
      Perez-Mkhi-Coman
      Auba

How-ever I do not rate Perez as I see him as a 1 season wonder and I feel Auba offers a LOT from the left and combined with Laca upfront then our attack would be deadlier with Auba using his athleticism and intelligence to arrive at the right moments and have Laca being more of a holdup/creative forward who can bring AM and inside forwards into play. Give Bellerin some time to learn his def role from Emery and he should be the starting RB (if in form).

I fully agree on the CB partnership tho 😛 Even considering we signed Sokratis, I would still like to see Chambers and Mavrop develop a solid partnership.

  7. 4141
    Leno
    Lichsteiner chambers mavropanos kolasinac

    L. Torreira

    L. Perez Mikhi AMN Coman

    Aubamayeng

With that team, we can beat anyone…Mikhi will be our creative outlet and we all saw how he links with our Gabonese goal machine..However, Mikhi and Auba can be rested by Ozil and Laca if need be. Perez should play on the right wing and cut in with his left foot to help Auba in scoring goals…Bring on Barcelona!!!

  8. wow Sam P youve excelled yourself
have you seen Max meyers stats they were even on sky
    Goals 0
    Assists 0
    shots 8

    WTF

  9. Rabiot is a better player than Ramsey and i am sure we could lure him out with Emerys help. But to be honest we all know that Ramsey will stay but the fact that we pay so much money for mediocre performers is rather shocking. Ramsey is good but to make him a 150k+ player would be crazy.

    1. Guess maybe he’s holding out because 150k per week is not enough?

Most players would jump at chance to
      (1) make 150k per week or 200k depends on rumor
      (2) manager says you are key figure
      (3) potentially name you as a captain

Why is Ramsey still holding out? What more could he want? Is all the above not enough?

I say sell him quick before he pulls hamstring stepping off plane and is shelved for 6 weeks.

Club been MORE than fair to him last 10 years, more than his performances have merited I’d say.
Only couple weeks left; either sign contract, agree transfer, or spend final year with U-23.

Call his bluff, no one else will offer him 150k.

      1. Ramsey is way ahead of himislef, beeng pumped by Wenger and some young fans he thinks he is a star.
but Inter Milan is his future… for 30 mil top top
Only reason he is still at the club is that there are no good offers for him!

We should bring Coman or someone else for the wings

        1. Sell Ramsey, buy Rabiot, front three of Aubameyang, Lacazette and Perez and look at a winger replacement if Welbeck sold or next window depending on performance.

    2. Yeah keep signing nonhomegrown screw the rrules, sell all our homegrown players and go with a tiny squd……….unbelievable the dross people write on here

      1. Or we could fill out roster with underachieving and mediocre homegrown players like in years past.

The whole English core worked out wonderfully for us the last decade didn’t it?

Lets review the hits, Ramsey, Wilshere, Gibbs, Ox, Walcott. Every single one of them are millionaires now, hows the club?

Homegrown rule is absurd; forcing clubs to sign overpriced and overpaid English hyped players who are level below others. Smh

  10. Max Meyer is a forward and attacking midfielder and Coman is a winger.

Comam is a winger so he would be more useful although Meyer can play on the wing also .

  11. Meyer has predomintaley been played as a CDM last season. Unless Arsenal want to convert him back to a CM, he isn’t a Ramsey replacement and not nearly as talented. This is why nobody is willing to pay him high wages and he has no club. If Ramsey were to leave we need to find someone better than both Ramsey and Meyer

  12. players abroad have come to use arsenal interest purely to encourage better terms under existing contracts. so wait for it …and… eventually we’ll see coman continue playing his football, with the german champions, champions league bound, only for all intent and purpose under an improved contract – we need to stop this infantile and gullible approach and adopt a sensible outlook in all transfer matters. champions league places turn players eyes and europa league is a burden for us.

  13. Roma won the race for Bordeaux malcom for 38m euro/ 34m pound. The interesting point is how 50m pound becomes 34m. Watch out for EPL clubs bidding crazily for him next season.

  14. Ramsey is a good player but he cant play in a 4-2-3-1 formation only 4-3-3 in which case ozil cant play as a 10 which is his best position. It’s a problem we have had for to long at great cost to our playing style. I say sell rambo and get both coman and meyer then we can play 4-2-3-1 with everyone in their best positions
    leno
    bell…..mustafi….sokratis……monreal
    torrier…….meyer
    miki……ozil….coman
    auba

    1. I may be of the minority here but I do believe that one of Rambos strengths is his late runs into the box, not his early runs. I honestly feel Rambos best position is a B2B player. Rambo isn’t the passing wizard that Ozil and Mkhi are, he hasn’t got the blistering pace to get past players, he doesn’t have the best dribbling skills… What Rambo offers is a threat in the box when unmarked and stamina to burn along with body strength. He shows good strength when he wants to 😉

I do feel that Rambos best period of time when he was playing alongside Arteta, from a deep position and he was not only putting in the tackles but also banging goals.

      1. So let s sell him to ManCity to Arteta… maybe they have a B team where he can run all day long like a headless chicken.

        1. I agree with both of you. Ramsey does make good late runs but is that enough to compensate for all his weaknesses? Ramsey and ozil simply can’t play in the same team without one being out of position and personally i think ozil is better player. Even if ramsey plays b2b and ozil as a 10 then the 3rd mid will have to be both a DM and a deep playmaker at the same time like arteta was and lets face it that is to big a workload for 1 player.

          1. I think Torreira should be given a chance as he looks like a tidy passer and someone able to put the tackles in, looks to have a good level of athleticism to cover someone like Rambo.

Maybe Emery will also be able to get Rambo to stay back more, when he wants to defend then he can defend quite nicely on his feet, I do think he has been encouraged to leave defending to other players a bit too much and so we don’t really get to see this side of him.

            @Maks
Are you going to support the new manager or get the #EmeryOut signs done now? Or already got them done?
I for one will support the new manager and if Emery thinks he can do the job with Rambo then I’ll see if he can, it is nice to read many other supporters waiting to see as well, shame you seem to have judged and found Emery lacking already.

      2. you just said what i love about Ramsey’s game that would be hard to replace. he of the ball movement is world class and his finishing is really good for a midfielder. if properly coached he could become a beast.

  15. It feels great to be part of this unique family called Arsenal FC. Kindly permit me to shout out loud: “We’re the Arsenal.” I’ve really enjoyed every bit of all your inputs here concerning this great club which I believe we’re all proud any day to be part of. I love football…I love Arsenal!!! As far as I’m concerned there’s no other club to derive so much joy and pleasure from but ‘Arsenal’. I reside here in Nigeria yet the Emirate Stadium is just my next door neighbor???I just walk in there whenever I want my Arsenal kits…Can’t you see that’s amazing? Anyway I love you, family! Hope to be always here to enjoy this fraternal bond that’s always keeping us together come rain☔come shine. Enjoy!!!!
