Should Arsenal let the BFG join Werder Bremen?

Arsenal have quite a few Germans at the club now, after Mustafi joined Ozil and Mertesacker this summer. We could have had one more, but Serge Gnabry decided to take his chance to jump ship after having an impressive tournament with the Germany Olympic side, and was quick to accept an offer from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

Now the Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann has revealed that the Bundesliga club also enquired about the aging Per Mertesacker, who has now found himself with lots of competition for his place in the Arsenal squad after the arrival of Mustafi, Gabriel and Rob Holding.

Baumann told the German newspaper Bild about their interest in Mertesacker: “In the course of Serge’s transfer, we also talked about his future.

“I can see Per at Werder.”

Bremen snapped up Gnabry at a good price as the youngster was entering the last year of his contract at the Emirates, and now they could get our BFG for free if they are willing to wait til next summer, or at a reduced price in January, and after Mertesacker admitted that he would be considering his future in January, then this is a very likely scenario.

Per is our club captain and highly respected at Arsenal, but is it fair that Wenger should let him go if he is going to be given guaranteed game time next season?

  1. lf he laves he will be missed i dont care what anyone says.
lf you remember our defence before he came he has helped sort it out and before you say sort what out there the same the last game before he joined was 8-2 so which would you perfer?
So with his experience we have the defence we have now and Kos is much better for having him there and with Holding looking good id rather he stayed a little longer to share his experience with the younger defenders.
    Least for a little while.

  2. I would rather let him go to Werder Bremen so that most of our fanbase will stop hating/scapegoating him up.

  3. We should keep him around. I will love young Rob Adams ..or Holding I mean, to learn all he can from Per. Holding’s game is based more on Adams and Per’s game than it is to Mustaf and Kosser’s game. He’ll pick up a great deal from them all no doubt, but I think Per is a type of guy that can get through to youngsters, he seems the teachable type (or capable of it). Rob’s positional awareness was nothing short of terrific for such a young lad being thrust into the higher echelons of premier league football. Bould, Mert, Wenger & many of Arsenal’s senior players will help mold Holding into an Arsenal legend, I really believe this.
