Should Cesc Fabregas replace contract-rebel Ramsey in the Arsenal midfield?

It seems increasingly likely that Aaron Ramsey will be the latest star name to run down his contract. Meanwhile Cesc Fabregas is in the same situation at Chelsea, so we are not the only club who don’t tie down their players to long term deals.

The irony of suggesting should we consider replacing the Welshmen with the Spaniard is Rambo was meant to be the future of our midfield when our ex captain left for Barcelona. I understand Gooners might see signing an ex player has a backwards step, especially now he’s in his thirties.

I of course would like nothing more then us to target one of the best midfielders in the world ….. Then I remember who our owner is. Finishing 6th didn’t stop Stan Kroenke from handing out only 50 million in the piggy bank. If a gap so big between us and Man City can’t make the American show ambition, don’t assume he’s going to care if someone leaves on a free. So if our scouting team are going to have to recruit a bargain anyway, you could do worse then an experienced playmaker who knows the Leauge when you don’t have to pay a fee. He wouldn’t start every week but his presence could help the youngsters at the club.

While his popularity has been hurt by playing for one of our rivals, it’s worth remembering his preference when returning to England was to come back to the Emirates. Arsene Wenger’s refusal to activate a buy back clause another sign that the Frenchmen had too much faith in the midfield he had.

So if we are looking for value, would you take Cesc back on a free?

  1. OT: Jack Wilshere is injured again and he could be out for 3 months . he wasn’t even in the squad yesterday, how he got his knee injured still remains a mystery.
I think he should just retire and concentrate on getting a coaching badge.

  2. I would take Fabregas in place of Ramsey any day. considering age and everything . Ramsey just doesn’t cut it for me , even any of our reserve u-23 players can replace him.

  3. Ospina is also being beched this week by Napoli ….

Kelechi Nwakali is also still playing for Porto B . this is someone KEV thinks is the future of Arsenal midfield . Soyuncu is also rotting in Leicester u-23 reserve .

    chambers also benched .

Perez who many of you think is good enough for Arsenal isn’t even getting minutes in Westham. and he was seen throwing tantrum yesterday after arnautovic got injured.

Carzola has also been in Vilarreal bench for 2 games in a row now…

Wilshere is now injured for 3 months (though not yet confirmed )but we all know how long he always get injured,.

SO FAR, EMERY OR WHOEVER IS BEHIND SELLING, LOANING OR NOT GIVING OUT CONTRACTS TO THESE PLAYERS IS DAMN RIGHT .

The only positive seems to be Reiss Nelson and I’m so glad he extended his contract with us before being loaned out (GOOD DECISION ALSO).

    1. Perez refused to warm up yesterday… so the hammers fans want him shipped out back to us!!!
I think Wilshere tripped on a blade of grass…… he’s always bloody injured!!!

  4. I’m sure Arsenal would get a competent committed midfielder, if Fabregas was available at the right price.
In any case Aaron Ramsey is not worth £250, 000 per week and the funds should be made available for a replacement midfielder, winger or centre back. I mean to say Ramsey was incapable of squaring a ball to Aubameyang for an assist against Newcastle. Unfortunately Ramsey’s head has been turned and as he refuses to sign the contract on offer, he should he should be exiled to the reserves. There is no way he will earn more at any decent club, unless it’s to warm the bench.

  5. Cesc is one of my favourite ever Arsenal players. But we have now gotta move on. He has declined and is finished as a top end player.

  6. No..Rabiot’s contract at PSG expires next year and he is refusing to renew his contract. Sign him in Jan. instead of Fabregas. Let Ramsey go.

  7. And to this day I still don’t know what Ramsey does or brings to our team.
He had that good flukey 2014/15 season and ever since that he has been the average Henderson level of midfielder like he always has been.

Can’t believe the drop from quality in the midfield. We used to have buzzing midfielders, the likes of Bergkamp, Pires, overmars, Ljungberg, Petit Cesc, Diaby, Rosicky, Nasri, Hleb, Cazorla etc.
Now we have Ramsey, Ozil, Xhaka, Elneny, Iwobi etc..

Our current midfielders need to improve.

    1. Complete agree @goonster
For me it’s not the fact Ramsey hasn’t signed a contract it’s the fact that’s hes crap .i haven’t wanted him in the team for prob 3 years and I don’t get what these managers see in him .fans talk about his high work rate ,lol,I’ve never seen that ,all I see is a one paced one trick pony midfielder who most opposition midfielders just run by him and he’s always leaving us open .
And I agree with you on the midfield players we have and did have .if only Diaby and Santi had been fit to play with each other then I honestly think we would have won a few titles because imo Diaby would have been world class and with Santi next to him would have been a dream ,now we are left with the xhakas ,Ramsey’s,elenys, iwobi Of this world ,a massive drop in class

      1. You are bloody delusional. You don’t want Ramsey does, he scores and assists. What the hell does xhaka, Maitland Niles, elneny or guenduzi do for us. Just run around and do nothing. Just look at Ramsey’s stats. Over 50 goals and over 50 assists in all competitions for Arsenal. So yes maybe he is not as good as modric, isco or veratti but he is by far our best midfielder and why would you well your best midfielder?

        1. Chill bro ,you can point to all the stats you want doesn’t make him a good player .maybe it’s you who should open their eyes and watch him rather than look at stats ,even xhaka looks world class looking at his stats this season .and AMN is twice the player Ramsey is even at his age now ,remember he’s been playing left back ,put him in the middle and he will blow Ramsey away ,

      1. True.
It would make more sense to sell Xhaka, get Cesc on a free and use the Xhaka money towards signing a top-level winger.
Still feel Ramsey is noticeably better than Xhaka. and Cesc plays as a deep-lying playmaker like Xhaka so that replacement would be a better fit.

  8. This team is crying out for wingers, the earlier we get rid of this crappy no 10’s the better will be, Ramsey slows our games down, can’t pick a pass, can’t stay in his position, but he has energy and makes runs to some that’s reason enough to keep him, I’ll take a crippled cesc over him all day every day.

  9. The more important aspect of this is Cesc want’s to come back. He always wanted to comeback when he left Barcelona. He never really wanted to go to Chelsea. the only attraction Chelsea had for him was that it was in London. It was Arsene Wenger’s stubbornness not to bring him back that broke Cesc’s heart. He loves Arsenal Football Club and still has Arsenal blood running through his veins.

  10. Cesc is all washed up, not much leg left in him. He has the speed of Mustafi right now and that’s no way an improvement over Xhaka (who worries the hell out of me). Though I wouldn’t mind having him back for a season, for transition purpose much like Lichtsteiner.

Ramsey needs to be gone. His sense of entitlement is a bane for the dressing room and the club. We need players who show up and prepare to fight every game, not somone who feels he deserve this or that salary.

Groom Guendouzi to be that midfield box-to-box worksman and play Torreira as the DM already! Use the funds for a winger as others have suggested.

  11. for me,ramsey is just Mustafi’s elder brother.. massive deadwood, one lacks d fear factor a center back possess the other lacks d discipline and speed of thought a midfielder possesses.. I think there is a disconnection between their brains and their body, Chief Mustafi wants to calculate the flight of the ball and lands on the floor, Uncle Ramsey wants to square the ball to auba or so and ends up hitting row abc-z,, they even almost have the same type of beard,, I laugh Wen they both start their comedy skits… stupid comedians

  12. “Ramsey has a purpose in our team. The other midfielders are all average . . . Screw that’s traitor cesc. We don’t need him at Arsenal. Only loyal players like Ramsey!”

Hahahahaha! Thank you. I usually rely on gotnoidea for my daily chuckle but you took up the challenge very nicely! Hilarious!

  13. This article is just “kite flying” nonsense. The premise in the title is clearly not going to happen and that is obvious. Dan Smith, there are plenty of realistic Arsenal topics to discuss, so why inject a fantasy article into what could and should be REAL debate about things that have at least SOME chance of happening? Whether Ramsey leaves or not is another totally different and unrelated topic. I hope he does leave and see no role for him; not now that he regards himself as being worth far more wages than the club does – including virtually ALL our fans too – and than he actually is.

  14. I would take Cesc over a Ramsey, even over a Ozil and Mik, but i strongly doubt arsenal is looking his direction, i see another unknown popping up in the Ramsey number 10 position if Ramsey leaves. We should all remember Emery saying Ramsey is an integral part of his plan and so far it has been evident in the use of Ramsey in the number 10 role.

Right now the question should be “how much Ramsey is worth” to Arsenal or someone else. I would rather “someone else”. January seems so far away, but we will have to wait till then for a decision

  15. Both Fabregas and Carzola should have a place somewhere in the Arsenal set up providing they are fit enough. Even if they don`t play every week they would be excellent back up and bench players not to mention their inspirational effect.
