Should this £50m Bundesliga winger be an Arsenal priority signing?

It looks like the new Arsenal management team is being quick off the blocks in trying to get our urgent defensive signings as proven by the fact that Freiberg’s Caglar Soyuncu has revealed that we have been in serious talks over a move to the Emirates.

Sven Mislintat is definitely well-informed about the talents in the Bundesliga, and it would appear that another one of our priorities is the RB Leipzig midfielder/winger Emil Forsberg who has been extremely impressive since arriving in Germany from Malmo in Sweden, and we are appently preparing a £50m offer right now.

The 26 year-old only signed a new contract last summer, but the Mirror is reporting that Leipzig is preparing another pay rise for Forsberg to try and ward off interest from Arsenal, but it would appear that the Swede definitely wants out after saying goodbye to the fans after the last game of the Bundesliga season.

It is true that Arsenal fans would love an out and out winger to help Aubameyang and Lacazette to get more chances in the box, but with Ozil, Mhkitaryan and Welbeck (and possibly Perez?) already vying for a place in our forward line I am not sure that we really need a player like Forsberg right now with the back line being our most urgent priority.

What do you think? Should we be spending £50m on Forsberg?

    1. People really don’t concentrate on the sides that just got relegated. If we observe every season there will be a few players in every relegated side that don’t deserve to be playing in the championship.

Since we are in dire need of a winger and a GK. Just look at stoke and we can fill both the positions easily since those players that I am talking about would not be willing to play in 2nd tier.

I am talking about Shaqiri, he is one of the best out and out wingers in the PL. And on top he is strong for his stature and hard to get him off the ball, deadly left foot, good Free Kick ability and more importantly tricky dribbler(we have zero dribblers who go past defenders alongside the touch line).

I still cannot believe how stoke of all teams managed to buy him. We can probably get him between 20-30mil.

And then Jack Butland, he will be the No. 1 GK for England at the World Cup despite being in the team that got relegated. Says a lot about his ability.

      1. Shekar233, I concur with your assessment of these two players; both could thrive in a club like Arsenal. I can’t understand why clubs don’t appear to scout the lower leagues in the UK, where there may be some untapped gems.
However Emil Forsberg is an excellent player and would be a very good acquisition for Arsenal as a wide midfielder/winger.

      2. Agreed.

Shaqiri would be a sound investment while Mahrez would cost 70 – 75 mill. AND wants to play for Man City. No go.

Also – Butland – partially agree, especially as we will have issues with the homegrown quota if we sell Welbeck/Wilshere/Ramsey/Bellerin – we can only sell 1 of those unless replaced with another homegrown player.

  1. Not sure winger and defenders are mutually exclusive. Do we need defenders? Yes! Do we need a winger – yes (ish). Sell some dead wood such as Welbeck and have both, BUT prioritise defenders and rely on Nelson if spending power not enough. Defenders first and £50m winger second.

    1. We actually need wingers even more than CB, that’s why we were going for Malcom.

Welbeck is shite and not really a proper winger (more of a shitty CF). Iwobi same, and more of a CAM. Ozil and Mkhi are not really top class unless playing as free roaming playmakers.

Perez could be better than Welbeck, but based on his last season at Depor, only by 5-10 percent. Sigh.

  2. We need to have at least three badass forwards, four fast wingers, three CMs, four bully DMs and many defenders! ?
You see, with a demand pressing game, like Emery plays, our fringe players will become sick room legends. We need to have able substitutes

    1. I think you have been playing too much FIFA 18 with MAN CITY.

Instead of buying so many players, I have a better option.

Let’s buy MAN CITY and name them Arsenal or merge them with Arsenal, while onto it we may also buy 60% shares of Real Madrid, Barca, PSG and merge in Arsenal.

Then we would align with Wenger’s foresight of Mega European League.

  3. To me, we need wingers, and also good and quality defenders like H. Marquire and James tarkwoski who can play as a defensive midfielder, and also a dribbler, speedstar of a winger, most of our away games , this past season was cus because of our lack of quality at the back and at the wings. For deadwood sales, I will go for welbeck, iwobi, holding (loan), chambers (sale but attach back by clause, especially to reduce cost), jerkinson, Campbell etc

  4. If Arsenal get Forsberg , it will be a magnificent deal. I watched the player. He is a high skills player; very high skills player. His style not differ from Kiven De Broyen with City. He can play in wings and deep in midfield, he has great skills of dribbling, crossing and also finishing. Also he can use both of his feet. And if you look at our squad, you will notice that we lack the player who has world class ability out in the wings; and it is very important to have a player like that to get the primer league or other big title. Look at the wings of all clubs won the league, you will find the wingers play the great and the important role to help their club securing the title. We have Ozil, but his weakness point is inability to work perfectly on the wings. Also, we have Welbeck, but, I am sorry to say that, he is not the wing that can help the club to get the league title, he is not a world class winger. Forsberg will help us to be much effective and will give us more tactical alternative. We remember that we used Ozil on the wing when we needed to change our plan to play with three attackers. We put Ozil in the position that represent his big weakness. The existence of Forsberg will make us need no more to do that and will give us a deep choice that we lacked it for many years. I hope we secure this deal. I am sure it will change our club too much.

    1. Forsberg will be a perfect replacement for Carzola – i think he plays pretty like Rosicky or Hleb and at the moment Arsenal dont have that type of player

    1. Sort out our defense first. Another winger would be nice, but we have bigger problems than wing.

      1. Not only defense even our offense is not very consistent – defense if we got Socratis, soyuncu,Evans, Benatia and a free transfer from Juve for RB we will set to go for next season and GK sergio Rico or Leno

        1. …our defence has grossly underperformed (of late) the only consistency has been with monreal – which suggests there’s a good argument for replacing all the others (yes even belerin), although he’s likely to get another chance hector needs to make improvements.

          1. Waal2waal, we should all hope that, as well as additions, Arsenal’s current defenders will improve under Unai Emery’s coaching.

            1. @Ozziegunner – when a defence leaks the volumes that ours had this season the jigs up – expect defensive changes will be made (most definitely). won’t be surprised if members of the arsenal defence are in discussions with other clubs even now – surely they know they’ve blown it in a world cup year when you’re meant to shine and play at optimum??

              1. Waal2waal I agree Arsenal need experienced CB’s and a better back up/replacement for Bellerin as well as the top class DM we all have been crying out for since Gilberto left; however I haven’t given up on Chambers, Holding, Mavropanos and Kolasinac under Emery.

  5. ….is granit xhaka or elneny any better than junjo shelvey? personally i don’t think so. junjo is more ‘orrible and by that i mean threatening in every sense. we’d do well to prize him away from the magpies – if only før the fact we need consistency and steel in the arsenal midfield. just sayin…

        1. @Enagic – with a little imagination, players who taken out mediocre sides would be much better in a top 6 side. a year or so ago i’d have said the likes of marko arnautavic, but im more thinking mane (whilst he was at southampton), junjo shelvey (nufc). clearly players who are talented and would be better if they came to a top side.

          1. Mane yes! the other two no – Mahrez yes and i can recall Mane was even available for 18mln at some point and a lot of arsenal fans were screaming for wenger to bring him in to replace Walcott – and next thing wenger gave walcott captain armbard!! – for Forsberg just go on youtube and watch him you will get an idea what kind of player he is

            1. i had called for us to purchase him a year or so back – i don’t think the hype of a YT video does enough to gauge whether he could play as he does when face with the vitriol of an stoke, everton or a spurs crowd. neither does such YT exposure do much to help us gauge whether he can consistently play well at old trafford or anfield – hence to price him higher than ozil makes little to no sense from where i’m sitting.
And as for mane anybody could see he’d have done well at arsenal which makes me wonder what our scouting team where doing when southampton at some point where kind-of-a-feeder club of ours in the past.

              1. The problems at arsenal in the past was not scouting but was Mr. power controling doing everything by himself all the bucks stop to him

                1. Not true.

Arsenal has had lots of scouting, just badly paid one and horribly underperforming one. Arsene should have fired most, especially that useless Grimandi (useless as a scout).

      1. Exactly my thought. Forsberg is a 30m euro player. Putting 50 on him is a waste of money. Arsenal should scour the whole of Europe or South Americans for players like him who are younger with a better abilities and cheaper. We need to take risk on these young and potentially good players instead of wasting our limited transfer budget. Liverpool did it with Coutinoh, Dortmund with Dembele, city with Sane. We all know how it turned out for the former 2.

  6. Can’t justify spending £50m in a winger when our defence needs drastic improvements. Would be a travesty.

    1. Thats even cheaper for the current transfer market – and arsenal may get him below that amount i remember last season he was available for 25mln – for the current new football operations at arsenal i don’t think we will have problems any more in negotiation – we have Sanllehi not Dick Law/wenger

  7. Very Arsenal player. Intelligent like Cazorla. But we do need defenders as a priority. Our creative midfield sunk when Cazorla was injured. Ozil is a wonderful player but would benefit by a deeper playmaker. Rabiot of PSG has a mean streak that would protect the back 3 or 4. Forsberg could lead us to the top 4 though. Shame we have so little cash on offer. Ever since Kroenke has been our owner we have done sweet nothing and been on a downward spiral. Emery will be a great manager but there is no way we can challenge without the players. Impossible. Some alleged supporters agree with Kroenke’s business philosophy. They are not true supporters. They do not truly want success. They are content with mediocrity.

    1. For the style of play Arsenal had previously a Cazola type player was essential; however once he was injured he was not replaced.
It will be interesting to see how Arsenal’s style changes under Unai Emery and his assessment of which players he requires to implement that style effectively.

      1. Totally agree OG.Santi was the one who made it all happen for us.When Coqulian was brought back Brom loan due to injuries he immediately gave us a defensive platform to allow Santi to dictate our play and tempo.Wilshere and Ramsey are not able to give us what Danti did and Xhaka certainly can’t.So Emery now has to sort out our balance in midfield as importantly sorting out our defence.

        1. Phil, Forsberg is a Swedish international, who has demonstrated he can play the Cazola role. Combined with a good DM and Arsenal are already stronger in both protecting the back 3/4 and playing out of defense. Any existing midfielder Emery decides to retain will also improve with greater discipline.

  8. Our midfield is missing a Kante, we’ve oftenly witnessed lost possessions en lack of creativity. Awud personally choose Jean Michael Seri for his midfield dominance, power, speed, creativity and his defensive ability. Then a paced winger like Gelson Martins, Zaha is gud candidate as well considering his agility speed and skill on the ball dat wud would serve us right. Yes we need some defence power, Sokratis Papas… Can add some experience and by far Soyuncu would be a very good assert considering his age, power and da ability to pass the ball. We have lichtsteiner linked with us, surely dat will improve our right back.

    1. Although an excellent midfielder option, I don’t think Seri has the defensive, ball winning power of Kante.
Ndidi or Nzonzi may be better options for DM.

      1. No one has the defensive power of Kante, let’s be perfectly honest about that. Even Fernandinho is not close, IMO.

  9. Fellani anyone?

His available for free. Real bully in midfield. He would add some height muscle and strength to our midfield. Great to defend corners, and to attack them

He’s not your typical Arsenal player – but that’s why it might work

    1. …truth is that arsenal had shown interest in fellani while he was at everton – he’s effective and has greater skill than he is currently being used for at mufc – there he’s more an impact player when it appears things are not going their way – on he comes. however, i can’t quite see him winning over our fanbase, we’re quite demanding, we expect more than fellani has on offer.

  10. Monreal consistent? Why ? Coz he’s been scoring goals? I don’t think Monreal is better than Kolasinac. Monreal, Mustafi, Bellerin, Xhaka, Wilshere, Perez, Jenkinson, Cech and Takuma Asano have to go. We should bring Cavarlho, Nainggolan, Koulibally, Sokratis, Alderweireld, Leno, Oblak, Mahrez or Forsberg

    1. …its debatable whether monreal is better than kolasinac (who we adore also), however monreal speaks english which goes an awful long way when trying to marshal a defence in the epl don’t you see? and weighing in with goals is exactly what i expect from a defender playing in a offensive football side like ours.

  11. If we are looking at a wideplayer then to me it is obvious Welbeck is being sold. With Reiss Nelson and Eddie coming through we have enough with a pacy wideman coming in to say that’s it up front.I haven’t seen enough of Forsberg to comment but Malcom was tipped in January so it’s pretty likely we are signing someone to give us pace and width.
And I just don’t believe this £50-70m budget. We have money and we know what is needed. At least one CB but two would give us options and numbers especially if we can offload Mustafi.Leichsteiner is a sensible signing so a CDM and get Martinez back as No2 to Cech and anything else is a bonus

      1. I never said they were ready.im saying if we replace Welbeck with a Forsberg or Malcom we have plenty of options up front with those two coming through.
I agree they are not ready YET.But with regular games in the Carabao Cup and Europa League the two of them will get more experience this season to start pushing on.

  12. Frosberg is more than just a winger, he is the creative energy in Red Bulls midfield, really would be an interesting buy. I think a buy like that would also point out that someone would be leaving the Arsenal midfield.

Our defense is not as bad as some of us keep saying, what has been apparent is that we are not organise properly, therefore defensive errors will be made, proper defensive drills are needed in order to get the best from our defense. Hopefully, the turn up in intensity will allow for better players to emerge

    1. He is a classic play maker there is no one to compare in EPL even La liga!! i hope we get him

  13. Spend spend spend, if Forsberg is the kind of players we are getting I’ll be over the moon. Seems like we are addressing all of our needs. Just can’t wait to see us playing next season. Anyways this year is about us supporters, we need to get behind this team like never before and the new coach it’s not just about the players who come in, we haven’t given the team a twelve man for years now. The Emirates need to buzzing this coming season, let’s hope we get the best players possible, but it is supporters that need to be the best signing this summer. Let’s all stop all this petty crap and turn the Emirates into the nastiest place to visit for traveling teams. When they see how much we love our players, that will change away results and a while load more probblems. Loving it you gunners

  14. I heard him being described as similar to De Bruyne and also told to imagine a super quick Eriksen from Spuds. He’s very creative and good dribbling ability, I haven’t seen much of him but I hear great things about him. He sounds like he could be a player we regret not signing before his price tag reaches the likes of Coutinho Mbappe Lemar, and all of them aren’t worth anywhere near the price they sold for. We need to sort out defence but also we cannot allow others to pick up the next star players whilst we sit it out. They might end up better than what we got and competition in the team is a must. Between Fekir Forsberg that’s two talented players that the other English sides will be chasing, Forsberg is more unknown compared Fekir but while everyone chases Fekir it could give us a good opportunity to beat teams to Forsberg. Only one team will win the Fekir signing anyhow and it’s unlikely we’ll match them in the end.

    1. Atleast now since we have Sanllehi in place i am less concern about closing out transfers

  15. We have far too many midfielders who we really need to offload and get 2 CBacks, a defensive mid and good wingers like mahrez plus a goalkeeper

  16. Emil Forsberg is in the same mold as Mkhitaryan – decent pace, eye for a pass and will knick the odd goal but is more of a creative player and loves cutting inside. We need more direct wingers with searing pace that constantly runs at defenders and always looks to get behind the defense and cross the ball into the box. the fact that he loves cutting inside occupying the same spaces as mkhi and ozil won’t really help us. We need width.

      1. I see Emil Forsberg as more a replacement for Santi Cazola.
Wilfred Saha from Crystal Palace is the winger I would like for Arsenal.
