Sky Sports pundit believes Brendan Rodgers should reject the Arsenal job

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher reckons Brendan Rodgers should swerve Arsenal.

Brendan Rodgers has been made one of the favourites to land the Arsenal job permanently after they fired Unai Emery.

Arsenal has been consistently linked with Rodgers, but Carragher believes that is unrealistic and Rodgers should reject a move to the Emirates.

Rodgers has spent less than a year at the King Power Stadium having only joined them in February, but he has made them title challengers and they are currently second in the standings ahead of Manchester City and Chelsea.

Carragher believes that it is just too soon for Rodgers to move clubs again.

“I think the position he is in, there is no doubt you want to get right to the top,” Carragher told Sky Sports per FourFourTwo.

“Leicester are second now but they aren’t one of the top clubs in the league.

“I don’t think it is right if he is even thinking about moving to Arsenal right now.

“He got a lot of stick when he left Celtic before the end of last season, which was a tough decision for him.

“If he moved now, he would get that tag of jumping ship very quickly. He has got to look at the next 18 months and think he is going to do something with Leicester.

“He will at one stage want to go to one of those big clubs.”

Leicester is on fire right now and a win against Liverpool would confirm them as genuine title contenders.

However, there remain limitations with the Foxes, they are not a top European club, Arsenal is. If Rodgers is as ambitious as he appears it would be very strange if he turned down the Gunners.

It is also a huge challenge for any manager to turn around Arsenal’s fortunes. That is not something that Carragher has taken on board. Rodgers could build a dynasty at the Emirates. Not sure that is possible at Leicester City.

  1. CARRAGHER IS TALKING PLAIN SENSE FROM RODGERS POINT OF VIEW. HE WILL BE IN DANGER OF GETTING A REPUTATION FOR JUMPING SHIP REGULARLY IF HE COMES NOW OR IN JAN. I very much want him , personally speaking and think there is a good chance if we wait til next season BUT let him know now(which is crucial) and privately, that we want him then. We could try for him now and that too would be wise but I do not see him accepting in mid season.

  2. Carragher is right. It’s too soon for Rodgers and I bet Arsenal would also wait till summer

It’s also useless to hire a new high profile manager now, because Ozil and Xhaka are still around

  3. We are a biased group here, but Arsenal is in danger of losing its place as a destination and that will factor into decisions. Hopefully we will get a chance to really see what the team has in place right now – hopefully a more consistent approach in using players properly will show some results, but maybe we really suck.

And I agree with Jon, Rodgers would be crazy to jump ship so quickly. I too think that he would be a good fit but timing isn’t right.

  4. Your right about Rogers JF.On this site over two years ago I suggested Arsenal should go for Brendan before he left Celtic as he ticks all the boxes and has the calmness to bring about positive changes without being egotistical like some Manager’s I could name. The players at Celtic and now Leicester are glowing in their respect for him and I have no doubt he would be the ideal boss to revitalize this Arsenal team with some financial support from the Board. In this regard his recruitment record at Celtic and Leicester has been first class with very few “mistakes” over the past 5/6 years.Compare this with the shambolic recruitment decisions made at Arsenal during the same period e.g. Mustafi,Sokratis etc.Unfortunately I cannot see him leaving a talented Leicester side with real aspirations of Championship League football next season for a team which quite frankly is decidedly mediocre and in need of a huge clear out.

  5. Why should Rogers join us, Leicester have been more successful than us over the last few years and are actually a forward thinking club. At the moment we are not, we dither about and have not moved forward for years.

  6. It is difficult to argue against the comments Carragher has made. Rogers needs to consider his reputation long term.
