So Arsenal were lucky – but the defence deserves extra credit!

Most Arsenal fans will agree that yesterday’s game was not the usual Arsenal style of sexy attacking football that we have seen in the last few weeks, but the fact is that we somehow managed to sneak the 3 points in the end, albeit in controversial circumstances.

But of course our French Prof was trying to look on the positive side, and he has noted that this is now our fourth clean sheet in a row, which is definitely something to be proud about for our defence, and of course he also noted that it was a defender that claimed the winning goal.

“It’s fantastic because we got three unexpected points in the end. I have to give the credit to my side because we kept going,” Wenger said on Arsenal.com. “We were a bit jaded physically and mentally as well, but we absolutely wanted to win the game.

“In the end it was maybe a bit of a fortunate goal, and the surprising thing from that is that we could have maybe lost the game on a set-piece. Instead, we won it on a set-piece and that is not our strongest attribute at the moment in the side.

“[Burnley] made us suffer right until the last second. It shows that the squad is mature and that we can be patient when we need to be, to keep going and score a goal.

“We didn’t concede against Chelsea, we didn’t concede against Basel, and we didn’t concede here. The defenders deserve double the credit because, not only did they not concede, they also scored a goal.”

So, as Monty Python famously said… “Always look on the bright side of life!”
