Sokratis finally arrives at Arsenal – Announcement imminent

At last the most unsecret Arsenal transfer of the summer is finally coming to fruition, as it has been confirmed by Sky that Sokratis Papastathopoulos is here for his medical.

Sky reported this morning…

Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has arrived in the UK to finalise his transfer to Arsenal, according to Sky sources.

Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc confirmed last week that a deal for the Greece international was close and an official announcement of his signing is expected soon.

The 30-year-old, who has won 79 caps for his country, looks set to become Unai Emery’s third major signing of the summer.

So now we have Benrd Leno, Stephan Lichtsteiner and now Sokratis to give a much-needed boost to our defence. With Calum Chambers being given a new contract extension, do Arsenal still need to bring in any more defenders?

Commentators be like announcing the arsenal lineup ……………. Sokratis Papasthatopoulos full time at the emirates Arsenal win 3-1

Aaron Ramsey has agreed to sign a new long term contract extension with us. He will become the club’s 2nd highest earner behind Ozil. He is seen by Emery as the player team should be built around. Its now down to the minor details which will be sorted out by Huss Fahmy.

      1. kev

        Ramsey contract details:
        5 years
        200k p/w base
20k extra for each goal or assist
        No release clause

This may be good news to some but bad news to others.Just support the player because after all he’s an Arsenal player.

Is what it is but if your watching the Mexico/
Brazil match #16 Herrera for El Tri is what
Arsenal need as a true B2B midfielder. Dude
has been fantastic the entire World Cup.

Ill always support AFC and Ramsey as a player
but $200K week for an AVERAGE EPL
midfielder is just maddening business imo.

Will we pair up the two Greeks? Wouldn’t mind seeing how they link up. With the new RB and Kola down the left, we have a few bruisers all of a sudden.

Need to make sure that attackers don’t enjoy a visit to the Gunners no more, especially if we add Torreira to the mix.

    1. Boluwatife

How easy to forget that Kola was shitty for most that of the season. I will go with chambers any day. I don’t understand why he gets slated for playing badly as a full back when we all know his strength is CB. To me, he should be the only guarantee in that defense lineup

  3. Sheet Head

Can we resign Van Persie ๐Ÿ˜ž๐Ÿ˜ž๐Ÿ˜ž
How is he doing btw? Is he still scoring goals for fun? I still have his jersey ๐Ÿ˜ž๐Ÿ˜ž๐Ÿ˜ž

  4. Declan

Thought it was a done deal weeks ago๐Ÿคฃ.
    Fails medical, not done๐Ÿ˜ค.
    Anyway, welcome (hopefully) Sokratis๐Ÿ‘.
Lichtsteiner as back up to Bellerin and Kolasinac as back up to Monreal, Sokratis replaces Kos and Soyuncu to replace Mustafi, defence sorted.
Torreira in front of them, if we get him too, then just need a winger and I think we are sorted.

  5. Eddie Hoyte

Good thing, I hope Torreira is next.
The one problem football is now having and is growing is, We are noe forgetting and ignoring Street Scouting.
I thought there used to be times when scouts go and pick raw talent from the slums and streets.. We all know how good, how tough and skillful these players were.
but I think we’ve totally forgotten it..
Not everyone is fortunate enough to get into an Academy, and not every one that gets into an academy that makes it

  6. John Ibrahim

a 30yo …..wonder how long will he take to adapt and settle

after a season we will be calling for a new replacement due to age and lack of pace

  7. Unai Emery

So we have addressed the defence, DM, and Goalkeeping issues in a single window….
A winger would be the cherry on the top

  8. Innit

Hopefully that will be enough. Only time will tell. I would prefer that we sell Mustafi and get a quality CB

    We have FBs sorted
    LB: Kolsanic and Monreal
    RB: Lichtensteiner and Bellerin

    Others
    GK: Cech, Leno, Ospina
CB: Koscielny, Mustafi, Mavrapanos, (Sokratis), Holding, Chambers
    Defensive Midfielder: Torreira?
CM: ________? Ramsey, Xhaka, Eleny, Ozil, Mkhitaryan
    Wingers: ????
    Strikers: Aubameyang, Lacazette, Welbeck
Others: Nelson, Adelaide, Niles, Iwobi, Nketiah

    So we still need
    1. Defensive midfielder
    2. Box2box central midfielder
    3. Wingers

In my humble opinion, We should also SELL Lucas Perez, Jenkinson, Akpom, Asano, Joel Campbell unless we are getting good money from loaning them

  9. Chiza

Innit God will forgive you for calling welbeck a striker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Chiza

    Leno
    Pavard Soyuncu koulibaly Kolasinac
    Torriera thiago alcantara
    Malcolm isco. Vazquez
    Aubameyang
Oh God Will the world come to an end if arsenal have this kind of team… Why can’t we have it?… But anyway we are getting there….. Imagine this team in the premier league, young and energetic..ready to brutalize any team

    1. gotanidea

Of course that squad will brutalize any team, especially with those four scary attackers

But Arsenal would not be willing to spend more than 200 millions in a transfer window and some of them would not want to come to Arsenal

Just pray Emery can change the attitude of some of our lethargic players to be energetic

  11. Uchman

It Amazes me how we r celebrating a 30 year old average defender who was shitty last season, assuming it takes him a year or 2 to settle which means we will still be calling for another defended next season very very pathetic, sockeatis Has a very poor recovery rate and very clumsy in tackles and very poor in positioning, if arsenal should continue with this kind of shitty signings they will surely loose alot of their oversea fans!

    1. LL COOL GUNNER

We can’t fix all our problems in one season, calm down and give the boss and our new signings a chance, and how old is chielini again?

      1. Uchman

Cheilini has bn in a particular system for a while, it’s very easy for him, let chielinni change club, u will c hoe he will struggle, look at his defensive partner that went to AC Milan? He suddenly become average even when his younger, and moreover how can u mention chelieni when we r talking about sokratis r they close? Common spare me that shit mehn, what happened to marquinhos?, what happened to geminez?, what happened to koulibaly? If u want to show ambition u make a statement, what is d resale value of sokratis if he doesnt work? This is arsenal and not one Chinese club or mls that will be bringing retiring players, this is a very terrible signing, I watched sokratis in all 3 Dortmund matches in d champions league and I followed them in the Europa dude was as shity and calamitous as a shuthole

        1. Shekar233

Then you can just get the shit out from your stupid mouth and go do something better than judging people unfairly. I have been reading and following you for a while now just to see if you are such shit all the time (24/7, 365 days) or you just have some trigger points just like evryone else, reacting when something is said which you dont believ in.

But it proves today that you have shit in your mind which you poop out from ur mouth…i realised this when you judged a player by labeling them as “shitty” by watching a few matches here and there.

I have always said never NEVER say a player as shit coz you have seen him playing poor previously. That goes true to all those people who say the same about Mustafi as well.

People , in general change. People in general try to improve themselves if giving the right motivation. That motivation could be to win some silverware or just to see their child happy after going through a devastating chemotherapy.
Players /people might be going through the toughest phases in their lives which reflects in their on field performaces. And as*holes like you keep judging them by saying they are shitty players.

It is very natural to call a player bad player and useless, but that is acceptable coz the player might be absolutley not suited for the set up and tactics of the manager and the team. Just like many of us gooners did not like Giroud , including me…coz arsenal are not the kind of club which is used to ‘hold up play’ striker.
But calling him shitty? Look at him for france.
All those who agree with this idiot going by the name of uchman tell me one thing.
How many of you would have craved for salah when chelsea was selling him? Did this uchman who wants to make a statement with a super signing ever wanted salah when at chelsea? Now if Liverpool are willing to sell him to arsenal only…wouldnt we all die of heartattack?

salah is a perfect example of how players/people evolve over time. That evolution might be coz of new system, manager, tactics or his own desire/motivation to improve.

I dont know if you (uchman) are a kid.
If you are something below 20yrs i really apologise for the above battering i gave …coz you still have time and would learn to think with maturity with age.

But if you are a grown up man…i think you are the most useless person among all the arsenal supporters. I dont understand your existence being helpfull to anyone. Go help someone in need and feel happy after putting a smile on their face than judging people as shit like you are the best human alive.

        2. Shekar233

And either admin or you(uchman) , please dont tell me that you are entitled to your opinion and i did not need to be so rude.

So can i make fun of people who died in a terror attack and give a rating to the terrorists on how they performed across various terror attacks? So will i be entitled to my opinion and not blasted away?
Such idiots like uchman who have their fun in mocking and judging people by abusing them needs to be either taught a lesson or thrown out of this planet for others to live in positivity.

      2. Lupe

Exactly, just as our problems were gradually realised, the solution would come gradually too. It took wenger years to put us where we are, its going to takes a few years to put us back on top. Its not going to happen in one season.

    2. Someone

It’s obvious you don’t know much about Sokratis and his statistics so instead of moaning just wait and see what will happen next season and if Arsenal somehow screw it up then you will have the right to moan.

    3. RSH

why would it take an experienced CB 2 years to settle into EPL? We need a senior defender since Kos is going to be gone for most this season. Let’s let Emery make his team before we start to complain so much.

  12. okobino

Lucas Torreira’s father just confirmed he will be having a medical to join AFC, after Uruguay’s elimination from the WC lol.

    1. Ken1945

okobino, before you go overboard please read on!
He also says that nothing has been signed yet, so it is not a done deal and he is not yet an Arsenal player.
Great news on Socrates, well done to the new manager and regime.
That’s three positive signings, all of a defensive nature, which was our Achilles heel for so long.
Torrreira would be the icing on the cake!!!
What a solid looking group of players we are getting together, cannot praise the new regime enough!!
All this BEFORE the world cup has even completed the last sixteen knockout stages…. absolutely brilliant

      1. Trudeau

Given how desperate we need a DM and how well he is playing in that position for Uruguay, Torreira isn’t the icing on the cake, he’s the bloody cake!

        1. Ken1945

Trudeau, crumbs I think your right.
Just as long as he actually signs.
Good news about Ramsey as long as he signs.
Ozils comments about his world falling apart worries me, however.
I see him as the lynchpin of our team and the supporters at the Emirates need to let him know we are behind him.

  13. auba arsenal of lagos

Brazil might be going out the way Mexico’s playing and I must say lozano does look veeeeeery interesting

      1. Ken1945

Simon, so do you remember how he played for us?
Always easy in retrospect mode, let’s just be content with Lacs and Abu!

  14. Goonstar

Signing these over the hill or near done defenders is not so exciting but it is also better than nothing. Unai seems to be trying to address our problem areas. Wenger had given up on strengthening us due to have โ€œThe I did not zee itโ€ syndrome or was just due to pure ego, arrogance and Pride etc..
We will be looking for new defenders soon due to the ages we are signing.

    1. RSH

waited for everyone to stop watching world cup, lol. Nice to see it finally official. Welcome Sokratis! Should be an automatic starter as well

  15. RSH

Great game, Brazil’s quality just shone stronger overall. Lozano needs a bit more decisive decision making but was still one of mexicos best players and Arsenal need a direct winger. Would love it if we got him, he has huge potential. Brazil just too good in end and are very solid defensively. Well played tho Mexico.

  16. Ozziegunner

These signings have been made by the trinity and are obviously within the financial constraints Arsenal is operating under. It is up to Unai Emety to build the team ethos and develop his style of play. Hopefully the whole will be greater than the sum of its parts and with improved defense Arsenal will be good!
