Soyuncu sends Arsenal a come-and-get-me plea but Torreira not so sure

According to every Arsenal ITK and his dog, the transfers of Calgar Soyuncu and Lucas Torreira we ‘done deals’ quite some time ago, but according to the latest quotes from both players, neither of them have finalised a move to the Emirates.

Soyuncu made it clear that he had refused other offers in the hope that the Gunners would come in for him, when he said: “I hope I go to Arsenal”.

“I really want to play in the Premier League, but everything depends on the team.

“I have a contract [at Freiburg] for three more years.

“I received bids from some of the teams in Turkey. I would not be able to give the team a name, but I did not accept it.

“I hope I go to Arsenal.”

So that doesn’t sound like the deal is certain at the moment, and Lucas Torreira was even more circumspect when he was asked about the reported move to Arsenal. “I do not know if I’m going to go there … At the moment, playing for my country is the most important thing”, Torreira said.

“Arsenal have a good team and are one of the most important clubs in the world, but right now I’m fully focused on playing for my country.”

So that doesn’t sound like there is any deal finalized either, and some will say that Stephan Lichtsteiner said pretty much the same thing the day before he was announced by Arsenal. But either way, it looks like there is still some more work to do before we have these two ‘done deals’ announced on the official website.

    1. Don’t worry be.Sanllehi is up to his old tricks.I told you guys he’s already rejected clubs but people doubted me.The move will happen.Sanllehi is up to his tricks.

      1. You also told everyone that Leno was going to Napoli and that Arsenals first game would be against someone other than Man City, so of course people are going to doubt you when you state things with such certainty, which have then gone on to be completely wrong.

        1. Yes he was going to Napoli until they refused to pay his release clause. He actually chose them over us but his agent convinced him to chose us.
This was largely reported. We didn’t beat Napoli to sign him. They just allowed us a free run.

          1. He will be unveiled at 4pm 100% sure right kev. Again an ‘ I told you so’ from kroenke illegal son aka kev. Didn’t you say you were not going to post your “insider” news and laugh at us normal ignorant fans when we stressed about transfer.

Just post your rumors for your sheep followers and drop your I know all attitude. Umery was selected by our board 2weeks before the rumors started yet you were yapping about arteta 100% done. Funny how with your insider knowledge you didn’t know the most important decision of this summer transfer window. You are a fake even some people who like your rumors know it.

    1. Done deal.Raul Sanllehi wants to get us the best deal. He’s just driving the. price down.Thats what we brought him here for.
People might doubt me today and call me names but when the move happens I won’t say I told you so because the move was imminent.
Soyuncu will be an Arsenal player 100%.Hold my word for this.I said the same about Lichtsteiner yet people looked at his comments and said “de ja vu”.

    2. Why does anyone believe this person when he has been proven wrong on multiple occasions? It wouldn’t be as bad if he didn’t say things as if they were 100% factual. Clearly he is getting fed wrong information and/or is trying to sound more important than he actual is. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

  1. What is ITK?

Maybe Arsenal told them to be discreet, not to brag/ leak the signings, because Arsenal could use the delayed announcements to gain more popularity/ interests from the media and the fans

If that’s the case, it is a smart marketing strategy. Rather than announce all purchases at one time, they could gradually do that in each month after the World Cup

      1. “In The Know”
        “insiders”
people who pretend they know of Arsenal’s transfer dealings…

      2. Is there an abbreviation for “abbreviation”? Seems such a long word to type. I ask because I am not ITK!

      3. Next time, ask Google.
It is a good and reliable friend you can have apart from dog.

  2. Never count your chickens!! Especially with Arsenal, but hang on, Wenger has gone so maybe it will be different now. I hope so particularly with Torreira.

    1. Wenger didn’t refuse to make enough available to buy Laca the 1st year he went for him, that was the board.
If AFC spends or not isn’t down to the manager, it hasn’t since Gazidis arrived, go check our transfer record and look at the pattern.

Or do you want Ken Friars words quoted which is basically saying that Wenger was hamstrung in each transfer window?

How about signings AFC made that Wenger didn’t want?
Wenger said on cam that he wouldn’t have signed Welbroke and we are still dragging that lump around and paying his wages…

      Forget all that right?

      1. But we all know that Wenger is the reason for literally every bad thing that has ever happened in existence! Heaven forbid 90% of posters on this blog are wrong and everything wasn’t actually Wengers fault!

        1. It’s all ready different this season though.
We have already signed two players and without lengthy negotiations.
I’m quite happy to wait for the club to officially announce the new signings as I’ve lost count of the number of players we’ve been linked with.

          1. How about in Jan when it took all window to get Auba deal done?
Wenger wasn’t part of that transfer deal even though he was the manager.

Don’t get me wrong, I am glad for Sven and Raul but I have no trust in Gazidis. Now we are more likely to act unified, act through 1 head instead of 2.

I’m looking forward to seeing how Emery can develop our players, I am glad we are finally moving forward as a club, I can’t forget that it took Gazidis around 9 years to do something other than boost share prices and all during that it was Wenger who took all the blame.

            1. Midkemma, if you remember the Aubameyang deal was held up because Dortmund required a replacement in before they let him go.

      2. Oh really? Wenger doesnt control transfers at arsenal?
        How delusional you are.
Ok tell my why would Gazidis want to bring in Sanlehi and Sven if he is the one who has the authority/decides to buy players ? Why would he want someone to question his decisions if he is the one controlling all transfer activity?

        remember andre santos?

Who signed him from FC Gremio?
He was personally chosen by wenger, as his best scout reportedly told wenger that andre will be the next Asley cole.

Yes he might not have approved welbeck signing. He did want him for loan. And that loan fee was around 5mil. Lets also agree that 5mil for 1 year loan os better than having a player permanently for 13mil, so now tell me what wenger was doing when this Welbeck deal was happening? I guess most of us dont remember but he was doing his usual TV commentary job in france for the world cup in 2014.

Instead of preparing for the upcoming season he chose to spend time on his hobby which also earns him money. I know most of you who support wenger wouldnt care what he does in his liesure time but how many top level club managers did you see commenting on TV just 1 month before the start of thier league season?

Let just stop it at that and also end the matter once and for all. Whether people agree or disagree wenger was directly responsible for the decline of arsenal in the last 7 to 10 years. Just as he was directly responsible for its rise in his first 10 years. And this conclusion is not even coz of his poor and cheap signings or reluctancy to bring any player in the transfer windows, but it is coz of his on field tactics and reluctancy to change things and motivate the team from the touch line etc.
I cannot even fathom the way Arsenal played in the 2017-18 season. How clueless and boring it was to watch that endless sideways and backward passing game.

Most of them who support wenger think all those who wanted him out were plastic fans. Coz we wanted to win the PL or play excitimg football. They suggest to go support city or chelsea.
What you lot dont understand is that even between 2005 to 2008 we did lose games and some of them were rather silly games to lose. But those games that we lost were still played with lot of passion and heart. Just like we did this season against ManUtd or spurs.
That is what was lacking with wenger and his arsenal for many years. Passion, desperation and never give up attitude.
Hope Unai brings all these things back.

        1. Why did Gazidis want to bring in people to do his job? Answers itself!
If you think Gazidis is soooooo good then how has it took him nearly a decade to make any real changes?
It was also painfully obvious that Gazidis couldn’t pick a good player if one ran into him, he needed someone who would he his man and not Wengers, in comes Sven who has top rep. Well done Gazidis for getting top men.

As for picking the occasional flop (which does add up over 2 decades), I have not for one second tried to proclaim that Wenger has never picked a flop. To lay all the blame of poor transfers on him though is inaccurate and that is what I am speaking out about. Wenger done better than Gazidis at picking talent, shame Wenger didn’t have the backing Sven has in getting the players, otherwise we could have ended up with Laca a couple years ago and never ended up with panic buy Perez who Wenger doesn’t appear to have wanted or picked but got given… and swiftly threw out on loan.

I have not for one second tried to indicate that Wenger was perfect, I am always openly critical of Wengers decline and lack off tactics, I have openly shown my frustration at players not developing as well as he could get players to develop a decade or more ago…

I will defend him when people mock him for transfers when that is clearly Gazidis for anyone who pays attention to the politics of football and not just watch a game here or there. I will back it up with facts as well.

“What you lot dont understand is that even between 2005 to 2008 we did lose games and some of them were rather silly games to lose.”
I do not subscribe to your way of thinking so no, I do not understand you. I comprehend what you’re saying though.

If you do want to talk history then fine. Tell me why Gazidis was hired by the old board when all they wanted was to boost the share prices? Was it for AFC or for their bank account?
Who kept on a CEO who was hired for the previous reason, kept that CEO because their wealth in assets increased? Seems like something the new owner would want…
What happened to AFC transfers in Gazidis 1st full season? Did we go out and spend big on 1 player or spread that kitty over multiple average in hope that some may turn out to be super bargains? Prior to Gazidis AFC wanted Nasri and he signed a new deal to bump up his value… Wenger tight fisted means we missed out right? PMSL! No, AFC went in and paid what was asked and got it done swiftly.

Lastly, who was it that sold Nasri? Nasri himself has come out and said how he was sold… I’ll tell you. Nasri confirmed that Wenger said he didn’t want to lose him and Cesc in the same window so he was not going to be sold, later to hear that the board had overruled Wenger and sold him.

Calling me delusional is a laugh, I have looked into this to confirm things and rechecked myself several times over. So much so that I have repeatedly said facts which people refuse to acknowledge.

What was Wenger doing while we was getting Welbroke? He was at the WC doing TV but he also got Alexis, forget that did you? Forget how Liverpool had the upper foot in the transfer dealings as they had Mr Bitey and Alexis was wanted by the scousers… Wenger got him. Maybe Gazidis should have trusted Wenger more when it came to transfers, not restrict him in funds year after year and hamstring him with stupid buys.

          How much was Welbroke?
          How much was Perez?
How much did Lyon want for Laca the year we bought Perez?

          1. Waiting for your reply with interest Shekar 233.
There are quite a few of us on this site ( Jon Fox being one of the first by the way Gunner Jack) who have repeatedly questioned the role of Gazidis.
I must congratulate you Midkemma for your knowledge of our transfer dealings, even if we disagree on others subjects.
Your never to old or clever to learn from others.
I also suggest you look into the Griezmann debacle Shekar 233 as further proof of Wenger being undermined.
I know you won’t believe me, so read the autobiography of Griezmann himself.
So, as much as you want it to be finished once and for all, their are so many questions left unanswered…. here’s just one more, where has all the money gone that we were told Wenger refused to spend?
Great debating on a subject that should involve all gooner in my opinion.

  3. Kev is in the kitchen preparing a lunch.

If you were the one (player) (s) , would you accept that you’re coming to Arsenal even when you’re yet to be officially confirmed?

The deal is imminent (Torreira especially. )

    1. Move will happen.I don’t need people to believe me.The end is what matters.Ive also seen some here state that Torreira isn’t done.Laughable as Sampdoria have already confirmed his departure.
No matter what Soyuncu or anyone says the end justifies the means and the move as I said will happen.

  4. Torriera is a done deal surely?Theres been too much to suggest he is coming to believe otherwise.
Soyuncu is a strande one.We have Chambers Holding and Mavaroplas all around the same age so if he does come in then surely one of Chambers of Holding will be gone.

    1. I hope Holding goes out on loan. Not Chambers though, as he made a big forward stride late last season.

      1. john we agree on alot of players but not on him, i hope chambers takes a big stride out of the club, not a defender i want on the books worst one we have and yes mustafi is miles ahead of him! movropanos is better today and we just signed him, holding is younger and looks more composed and I will take any defender we are linked with over him. if he is to stay he needs to be harder better faster stronger (pun intended). i could name drop at least ten attackers in the premier league who will make easy work of chambers and that includes benteke!! what a weakling chambers is: he has no pace no strength no courage bad anticipation but yeah let’s have him on the books as being english is the only positive hes got he’s HG. don’t get me wrong i would love to have him if i was middelsbrough brighton wolves or huddersfield and i’m not sure those teams need him in the first place but definetly not us, not the caliber of player we need, at best he’s the next jonny evans and at worst he’s the next evans!! i’m sure you’ll be seeing him playing in the bottom half of the table in a few years i just want it done now fox!!

        1. So where is the facts about Chambers? If he is as bad as you make out then show the stats to prove it.

Chambers went out on loan to Boro and their def was equal to teams in the top half, that season seen them concede just 53 goals, this was 9 more than Arsenal in the same year and this year we conceded 51 goals.

          Think about that!

Boro who got relegated only conceded 2 more goals than we did this year, that was greatly aided by Chambers playing damned well, winning over the Boro fans in the process.

I can also point to how Chambers was the CB who partnered with Mavrop and Mavrop had good games, as soon as Mavrop was partnered with Holding then he had that disaster of a game. Holding plays better alongside Chambers than other CBs so far, we seen how Holding and Mavrop worked out and Holding has been slated when playing alongside Mustafi… Yet alongside Chambers and Holding seems like a beast of a CB.

We talk about leaders at the back yet when a young CB has shown real leadership potential…

If you want I can really do a stat dump and grab his games for Boro and ratings, compare them to Mustafi and also get stats for passing and tackles and interceptions etc…

Actually, here you go, a mini dump… Chambers/Mustafi will be the format, please keep in mind that I am posting totals and Chambers played around 60 mins less when comparing his season with Boro and Mustafi season with us last season.

          Interceptions: 51/57
          Blocks: 25/15
          Clearances: 186/169
          DefErrors: 2/2
          DefErrors leading to goals: 0/2

So far Chambers loses out on interceptions by 6 but has better block rate, better clearance rate and less errors leading to goals.

Stats and facts. Interestingly, when we look at just the def score from the two players, Chambers beats Mustafi hands down. 266.59/129.29
Admittingly that is only squawka rating but I am not hiding this fact or trying to sweep it under the rug for opinion sake.

          1. Chambers over Holding every day for me.Far more composed and those stats show up well.Lacks a little pace but he will come good for us I’m sure

            1. I was disappointed when we signed Chambers and didn’t think he would ever be good enough.
I’ve had to change my thinking over time as Chambers proved he has talent.

I have thought that Holding could do with a loan spell, get regular EPL gametime, like Chambers did at Boro. He had a really good start but started to dip… I am putting that down to Wengers training though and not the lad being trash 😛

        2. I wish people like you never exist in this world, people who just deem players as worst players without giving them proper chance to prove themselves. And this is not just about Chambers or holding, it is also about those who label Mustafi as worst as well. I have seen people on this forum calling Mustafi all kinds of names and even swore upon. .
I guess you are such idiotic hypocrytes among people who keep bullying people for no reason other than having some personal fun.
What is your definition of worst player?

Wasnt salah a bad player at Chelsea?
Wasnt countinho a bad player at Inter?

Players grow their ability and quality as they play regularly and as they play to their strengths. Not just players, every human being becomes better with their work as they gain experince and work hard to increase their strengths while decreasing their weaknesses.
Salah was bad at chelsea exactly because of the same reason why Martial and Rashford are struggling at Utd. i.e. Mourinho and his team tactics. The same goes with Countinho and also sturridge when he played at chelsea and then moved to Liverpool and started banging in goals along with sterling and suarez.

So instead of lableing players as worst do something with your life which is meaningfull or rather do something with your life which helps othes’ lives if not yours.

  5. This goes to show that we should not count our chickens til they are hatched. I have been as guilty as anyone in doing so. Having watched Torreira on video, I am esp. perturbed if he falls through, as I consider him exactly the sort we have needed ever since GILBERTO left.

  6. It also seems Benega won’t be coming either as his family don’t want to move to London from Sevilla.

    1. Not a huge loss, I believe he was targeted not just for his ability but Emery would like him at the club due to the relationship and memories they had together. It’s like how Mour brings Matic along with him even though he has resources to target just about anyone. Matic is good but I think he’s a little overrated, he’s like having a CB in CM. All the players Emery worked with but he chooses this one, personally I believe that that PSG youngster was a much bigger loss.

      1. yep can’t beleive they convinved him to stay, he’s had his chance to shine and be the next anelka but he choose the bench and the reserves how dissapointing that was break!! still happy with the effort put in, would have been a major coup as he’s one of the most talented teens in france. but the talent pool is large and we seem to target quality so his loss. let’s see him get game time ahead of mpabbe, cavani, neymar,di maria, draxler, and i’m sure i forgot a couple of others, as you can see not bitter at all by his decision.

  7. Is the purpose of this article to incite the fans to be negative toward the club again. We all read what the Sampdoria owner said about how they hit jackpot over Lucas situation with the 30m offer and the whole world knows we are the only one willing to offer that much because we don’t want to pay his buyout clause at once. As an arsenal fan and a writer on JA you have read that somewhat in the course of research. In regard to Caglar, very sensible arsenal fans knows he is trying to force his parent clubs hand to get more money or get his way to arsenal.

    1. Soyuncu seems like a player we were really interested then his club threw a ridiculous 35m price tag on him and we showed them the middle finger. We want the player and he wants to come but his team wants to hold us to overpay for him. Only overpay for proven players not potential good players, we got ripped on mustafi and xhaka lately so we are careful.

  8. Well the Soyuncu fellow is starting to sound dejavu a bit, whenever they look like they’re pleading with us to sign them it usually means Arsenal showed interest and reports made the player very hopeful before the player starts saying how we are the dream. We want big characters, personally I hate this tactic, I don’t mind when they say it after signing even though it’s just playing up to the fans. He should have more belief in himself, he should learn the right things to say by listening to the guys at the very top and how they conduct themselves. I know he’s still a kid basically with plenty to learn. Why do they believe that licking ass is the way to go, that wont change a mind that is already sure on what they want.

Torriera, he seems like he knows how to conduct himself professionally speaking. He gave nothing away when this was all helter skelter, even now he gives nothing away. It’s worrying though now that he says he doesn’t know if he’ll end up here, is he just milking the publicity, or have Napoli done it to us again. Napoli are a CL team, in Rome, Naples, Italian wine, sunshine, woman and food, yum yum. I hope he’s just doing what he’s told by leaving for the club to announce along with another big CM signing in due course.

  9. So you think Torreira will confirm the move before Arsenal officially do so? Of course he will not! I believe it is a done deal. Sampdoria President has confirmed that he has already been sold. His WC involvement is what is holding back the announcement. As for Soyoncu, we haven’t seen any reports that it is done. His agent has stated that talks are on going. The player clearly wants to come. If a transfer fee can be agreed upon with Freiburg, I am confident he will come.

  10. Let us relax, we will soon kno d real fact, keV well done, I just love reading ur post on incoming players, don’t mind those who r attacking u for just kno reason. However, this is not new, we don’t expect player to confirm transfer before the club. The fact is Arsenal is in negotiation with both of dem.

  11. I believe Lucas is coming to Arsenal, but I’m not too sure about the turkish kid. And guys, the players are professionals and you should not expect confirmation fron them. Remember Lacazette last year when Lyon’s President or chairman said he’s going no where and staying and the next day said we are negotiating with arsenal? Remember when Wenger was asked about Arshavin and said there is no interest and he can’t control what other people say while Zenit’s chairman clearly stated that he’s going to Arsenal? Just wait till after the world cup and we’ll see what happens. I think our 100% all but confirmed signings are Lucas Torreira and Sokratis. Soyoncu wouldn’t bet on it. I’d love for us to get a winger though as we lack natural wingers who are fast and skillful. We have great strikers and playmakers but no wingers

    1. In fact when Wenger was asked about Cazorla, he said that he never heard of such name before. Only for him to sign up few days later.

      1. I thought Wenger said that the 1st time we tried for him?
We failed and then got him 12 months later, we failed because AFC wouldn’t increase the bid by a couple million….
If it was the 2nd time then lol… Actually, upgrading that to PMSL!

Sad to see him leave :'(
I really wanted to see him play another game for us, I’m gonna miss him 🙁

        1. I know ??, Santi was my favorite arsenal player specially when he was our number 10 before ozil came
