Step forward Arsenal´s new goal machine – Mesut Ozil

Quite a bit of the talk about arsenal this season has been about the fact our usual king of the assist, Mesut Ozil, was still to provide on this season after a lengthy spell without one in the second half of last season, but I very much doubt that many people will mention it for a while.

Not only did the German end that long barren spell by setting up Theo Walcott for the Gunners’ second of the night in our Champions League game with Ludogorets, he also netted the first hat-trick of his professional career to give Arsenal a fantastic 6-0 win over the Bulgarian champions and put us in a great position to win a UCL group for the first time in years.

So while Ozil’s reputation as king of the assist may be under threat, he is now a serious goal threat who has now bagged six goals in eight games. None of the three against Ludogorets was as spectacular as that volley against Swansea last weekend, although the third was a pretty sweet left foot volley from a Lucas cross and the first came from a great run in behind and cool right footed finish, but all were taken well and just the fact he is getting in the right areas and having the confidence to shoot suggests there will be plenty more to come.

With regular scorers Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez also getting on the scoresheet and the Ox chipping in, not to mention Iwobi, Lucas, Giroud and Ramsey, have Arsenal now got enough goal power to go all the way and win a major trophy?
