SWFC v Arsenal review – Bad luck, Good goals, Arsenal out

That was not what Arsenal wanted, never mind the fact that the Capital One Cup is a poor fourth on our list of priority targets, especially this season when it looks like we have a great chance of the Premier League trophy.

But as well as accepting that Arsene Wenger was always going to play a much changed team, you cannot blame the boss for losing first Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and then his replacement Theo Walcott to injury. The Gunners had left a lot of the big name players like Ozil, Cazorla, Alexis and Coquelin at home but we did have Giroud, Cech, Mertesacker, Gibbs, Debuchy and Flamini on the pitch.

The simple fact was that Sheffield Wednesday were on it. THey seemed to want it more and they played very well and while Arsenal dominated possession early on, they coped with it well and we did not do the same as they grew into the game and punished us with some good goals.

This was certainly a night to forget for Arsenal, and one that the Sheffield fans will no doubt remeber for a long time, and we are left hoping that it does noit have a negative effect on the confidence of the team ahead of the more important Premier League and Champions League games to come. And we can only hope that Walcott and the Ox are back soon and that the Arsenal injury curse is not coming back to bother us.
