The bad news on Rob Holding injury confirmed – Out for the rest of the season

You just have to feel sorry for Rob Holding after his injury sustained against Manchester United on Wednesday. The youngster finally managed to secure a regular starting place in the Arsenal first team and looked like he was going to be retaining his place for the forseeable future. But now his hopes have gone up in flames as the Gunners have now confirmed that he will not be playing again this season.

It was announced on Arsenal.com this afternoon, when they reported: “Further to the injury sustained during our match at Manchester United on Wednesday night, we can confirm that Rob Holding has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee.

“Rob will undergo surgery to repair this in the coming days. The rehabilitation process is expected to take between six to nine months.

“Everyone at the club will now be working as hard as we can to ensure Rob is back on the pitch as soon as possible.”

This is coming at the worst possible time for Holding, just as he was building up hopes of getting a chance to rejoin the England set up. Holding said himself just a couple of weeks ago: “Gareth Southgate has brought a refreshed feeling to England with a lot of young lads. If you’re playing well in the Premier League week in, week out, as we saw with Callum Wilson and Lewis Dunk, you’re going to get chances.

“You want to be a part of what they are creating at the moment. Obviously what they did at the World Cup and there is the Euros in over a year’s time. It’s a great time to be involved with England so why wouldn’t you want to be.”

But now that is impossible. He was hoping to be playing in the Euro Nations League games this summer, which would hopefully give him a chance to go to the Euros the following summer, never mind just keeping his place in the Arsenal line-up. The poor lad will now have to start from the bottom again in 9 months time.

You can’t help but feel sorry Rob at this time….

  1. Sad for Holding but Koscielny should be coming back soon and will hopefully competently cover for the rest of the season. ION rumours are apparently Ozil has been calling in sick to stay home and play Fortnite ?

    1. So that’s who my son has been playing against ?

I’m gutted for Holding… it’s a long road ahead of him.. but I hope he comes back stronger! Jeez first Welbz, now Holding….. please no more ?

  2. Hopefully Holding can recover sooner than six months and become stronger, because he clearly has the talent to be a top CB

And according to the news, Arsenal cannot recall Chambers, so they can only rely on the available CBs

  3. Just goes to show, no matter who the owner is, who the CEO is, who the manager is, who the backroom staff are, we just keep getting long term injuries (as does every team).
Such a shame for Rob, under Emery’s guidance he was starting to show the form that AFC signed him for.
A real prospect for Arsenal and England.
Get well soon young man, you will be missed for the rest of the season.

  4. I think torreira should be rested tomorrow, he is d last player we want injured as there is no direct replacement for him.
Niles,Guedouzi are all CM not DMs n Elneny is shit

    1. Guendouzi is a defensive midfielder and cm, thats why Emery got him
He is excellent in both positions
Guendouzi is a fine direct replacement for Torreira should he get injured

  5. i don’t care what anybody says but that tackle from rashford on rob holding which led to his injury was malicious, i hope he gets a dose of the medicine he meted out on holding. The epl is full of double standards.
