The players Arsenal need to save our season….

ARSENAL SHOULD DO A FIRST SQUAD CLEAROUT TO RECOVER THIS SEASON By Nicholas Oyoo

The Arsenal squad has so many players on their way out, it’s scary!

Walcott – going
Sanchez – going
Ozil – going
Giroud – going
Coquelin – Gone
Cech – out of Sorts
Mertesacker – retiring
Debuchy – going
Ramsey – Out of sorts

For Arsenal, perhaps it is time to clear out and bring in fresh players that can help the team chase the season – that is going very badly already. We are out of the FA cup – A first for Wenger, 6th in the league and the only thing that looks to be going for Arsenal is the League Cup (possibly) and the Europa League which we did not even want to be part of in the first place. And Arsenal need to be brave. There are a host of players being linked with Arsenal and if some of these can be signed we could have a pretty powerful team for the second half of the season.

If I were to build a 2018 second-half-of-the-season squad from the players we have been linked with to sign right now, I would bring in the following. First I would go back to the legendary 4.4.1.1. that gave us Thierry Henry’s partnership with Dennis Bergkamp.

Goalkeeper- Sergio Rico is tall, and at a prime age of 24 and easily being kept off number 1 spot for Spain by the brilliance of one David De Gea. He could be got for a bargain of 20M and you would probably have a new young Petr Cech on an ascendancy.

I know we have already brought in Konstantinos Mavropanos. In this department we have the aging Koscielny, Mertesacker, Monreal and Debuchy. We need someone who can slot right in and proceed with it like we never even changed. Jonny Evans of West Bromwich Albion would be that kind of a player. The only unfortunate thing with him is that he is 30 so we could probably only get three years off him. But his two seasons with us would allow our younger players time to get into the level of world class. For 30M he would be available immediately.

For right wing, Christian Pavon would be a considerable acquisition to replace Walcott, even an upgrade. This is an Argentinian player with Boca Juniors and still only 21, and there is considerable interest from European clubs including Inter Milan, Manchester City, Liverpool and PSG, some in the past and some right now. We have been linked with him too. Pavon can play both wings and as second striker when we need it.

For the left wing, Thomas Lemar from Monaco is easily the most well-known player linked with us, but due to the high price tag, maybe we will best be served to look elsewhere. Gonçalo Guedes from Valencia would be a good option here and we could get him for 26M.

Playing with the second striker would help allow Lacazette to finally come good, in my view, and the best person that can give us some great showing is Malcom from Bourdeaux. We can get him for 30Million.

Here is my 2018 rebuilt squad. It would play in 4.4.1.1 pattern.

—————Rico————————
Bellerin—–Mustafi—–Evans——Kolasinac
Pavon———-Xhaka—–Wilshere—–Guedes
————Malcom———–
———–Lacazette———

Of course I don’t expect Arsene Wenger to make such wholesome changes of 5 first team players in the winter transfer window – as well as shifting the playing pattern, but miracles do happen, don’t they?

  1. Lol…. I just laughed after reading this.
Well it’s not a crime to dream.

I only pray it’s true that Ancelotti has agreed a 4 years deal with Arsenal verbally.
He’s not my first choice but anybody other than Wenger is worth the shot.

BTW, your selection is good… but impossible

    1. Ancelotti not a real improvement to Wenger, just a substitute. We need a manager with a plan, who can improve players and has modern football tactics.

  2. We need to invest in central midfield
We need a strong spine innit
We need someone better than Xhaka
He has consistently been underwhelming this season. innit.
And Wilshere is still injury prone

  3. I know u are talking about players, but the first on the least of departures most be arsene (today i read that allegri is ok with chelsea…i would prefer allegri rather than ancelloti…with the money we paid wenger we could cinvince any coach…more if they know that arsenal gets stability (in the case of arsene that became blind faith and scare to a life without wenger, being that our biggest curse)

  4. When will people learn? Getting rid of rubbish, and signing quality, will not make an ounce of difference! How do I know this? Because that’s what Wenger has done over the last five years, and look where we are!!

This is why I couldn’t care less anymore about players coming in, unless it’s under a different manager. Lacazette is a perfect example. Banging them in for Lyon, starts working under Wenger (who is an attacking manager…apparently, maybe only in the 2nd half of games I guess), and the goals dry up. He’s now going through a Giroud style lean spell. Players only regress under Wenger these days.

I don’t think we should sign anyone until Wenger goes. Keep as much money as possible for the next manager.

    1. Well said.. I too don’t think that the current depress in form of many players are due to the Wenger game style and not of their fault..

  5. Arsenal is undergoing a massive
rebuild the largest change in 20 years.
    We must get it right.
A new manager and probably as many
as 20 player changes in 18 months.
A crucial factor is when is Arsene leaving?
because if Arsene is going this summer I am all for holding off on all
January transfers so the new Manager can bring in his own preferred players
in June after all the new manager not Arsene will be running the team.
But if Arsene intends completing his present 2 year contract
we could go through a second massive overhaul
when the new manager signs on in June 2019.
I’m all for the massive rebuild but we should do it once and do it right.
Arsene could do us all a favour by stepping down in June
but will he put the club first or his own desire to run out his contract?

    1. I hope you’re right Maks ‘cos for the moment I can’t see it changing for the better anytime soon. I saw Wenger on the TV today and despite peoples’ belief that he is going he was talking like he’ll be with us for many years to come.

  6. We all know Wenger has short arms and long pockets and silent Stans arms are even shorter .So we can expect a cheap replacement for Sanchez and that’s it. Wenger out now.

  7. Selling Coquelin sums it all up again. Will not buy a replacement, don’t have a real DM any more, can’t play in another system now, no back up for when AW finally thinks hey this Xhaka guy is not as good as i told myself the past 2 years.

  8. Admin I sent you an article as attachment few days ago. But since I got one over you in the ref article I guess it will never be seen. Interesting that the 1St part of your article reminds me of mine.
    Just stating an opinion again.

    1. You do talk some rubbish Ackshay, but I won’t hold it against you!
I presume you have seen your article published now….

      1. its instinctive sarcastic and trash talking but you do it well too. plus you have handled far worse than me on this site.

        1. Well said! So don’t feel victimized lol. As long as there is no bad swearing and personal abuse of other Arsenal fans I think I’m pretty easy-going….

  9. What is it with Thomas Lemar? He scored just 3 goals this season …. Nowhere near the 90M price tag performance that is. His performance last year may be due to whole team being good going forward.

  10. Would be insane not to go hard for Mahrez who would be available at the right price. Draxler also. Can’t see the club bringing in more than two established (probably underwhelming) players.

For me, ideally before next season we also need a GK, CDM and CB along with somebody to contend with Bellerin (PL experience, not another project)

    Butland/Cech

    Bellerin/Cedric or Lowton Kosc/Marquinhos Mustafi/Chambers Kolasinac/AMN

    Xhaka/Weigl Wilshere/Ramsey

    Mahrez/Nelson Ozil/Iwobi Draxler/Welbeck

    Laca/Giroud

  11. Think you will find when AS has been sold the arsenal team will start playing well and be happy in the dressing room
