The three things Arsenal need to tonight to beat Standard Liege

Three ways we can beat Standard Liege by Lagos Gooner

Hello Gooners, it is Arsenal’s last match-day in the Europa League Group Stages today and I am so sure most fans are apprehensive, just like I am. We finally won a game after several attempts on Monday night, but then does that victory give us the belief that we will win against Standard Liege?

The last time we played in Europe was two weeks ago, and we lost that game against Frankfurt; a game we should have won comfortably and qualify for the knockout stage of the Europa. If we had won that game, we would win the group and today, we would just be playing for formality’2 sake. Too bad we find ourselves in this type of dicey situation, but all hope is not lost, right?

Prior to our game against West Ham, we had not won any game in 9 attempts. Fortunately, we won that game and we expect to win today’s game too. We need to build our confidence and the best way we can do that is to win again today. We got no other option. How do I think we can win today? Well, here are my three ways I feel we can win.

(1). We need to use the same attacking formation we used against the Hammers- “No need changing a winning team” right? Well, in football, once a tactic or team selection wins you a game, is there any reason why you should not use that same team for your next game? No! No need changing your team unless if you are forced to do so by injuries.

(2) We need to start the game with a blast – If am not mistaken, ever since last season, Arsenal has been known to play well in one half and play badly in another half. Well, against Standard Liege today let us be known as the team that plays well for the whole 90 minutes duration. Is that too much to ask?

(3) The fans need to support the team from beginning to the end – Okay, I know we have been disappointed many times this season but Arsenal still remains our team and we need to support them from start to finish, no matter how the match turns out. Arsenal won against West Ham and by so doing, they have the right to enjoy the support of the team in full. Can we please give them that total support please?

Now, these may seem little things to do but if we follow these tips the sky may just be our starting point tonight. Up Arsenal!

  1. I agree with points 2 and 3 but not point 1. Arsenal should have their best players fresh for the Man City game which is much more crucial than tonights game. We can win or at least draw with the Belgian team without our best team because our best team is required for the PL matches. Maybe for crucial away EUL games we can use some of our best players, not all. The best should be reserved for the PL. A consistent winning spree can still take us to the top 4. We are only 7 points off the fourth place and a good winning spree will take us into the top 4.

    1. Yes, a defeat at the Emirates would most likely allow the bottom EPL table teams to swap their positions with us

Our B team should enough to hold Standard Liege off

  2. Tonight’s game is more important now than premier games as it’s our best route to top 4 finish. I agree. Let’s get behind team and see where it leads.

    1. No, because we just need a draw to proceed to the next stage and surviving in EPL is more important than participating in CL next season

Tonight is our youngsters’ chance to show their capabilities

      1. I agree with you 100% gotanidea regarding the team selection and that staying in EPL is more important than next years CL but we don’t need a draw to go through, just not to lose 5-0 will do.

      2. It is an away game and we narrowly beat S Liege at the Emirate with the help of N.Pep free kicks.we should show them some respect. The lineup should not be totally youth but a combination of some senior players. The hard truth is that we might lose to M.City on Sunday with our current form. Winning today is our best route to playing in Champions league next season.

  3. Don’t be deceive, the best must play tonight in the Europa league, let us be realistic, even when we are playing well, Man city was not there to be beaten by our team. There is no need resting our best against them, let the team win tonight and on Sunday, we will wait and see what will happen, maybe, we can get a draw but for now, let the best play tonight.

  4. OUR YOUNG GUNS WILL DO US FAVOR TODAY FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE EMERY WAS SACKED AND WE ARE FULLY AFTER THE TEAM NO MATTER WHAT RESULT COMES BECAUSE WE NEED TO DO OUR PART AND SEE WHAT THE TEAM WILL GIVE US AS PAY BACK.AND I REALLY FILL VERY HAPPY WHEN I SEE THE YOUNG GUNS PLAYING IN THE RED AND WHITE SHIRT.

  5. Martinez
    Niles Holding Mustafi Bola
    Guendouzie Luiz
    Nelson Willock Smith-Rowe
    Lacazette.

    Against City
    Leno
    Niles Chambers Socritis Kolasinac
    Torreira Guendouzie
    Pepe Ozil Martinelli
    Auba

  6. Holding is injured. So probably Freddie might go with a pairing of Mustafi and Louis. Also, he should not play Kola because he will get tired and must be fresh for the Man City game. Saka and Nelson can be on the wings supporting Laca. The midfield can consist of Willock, Guendouzi and Berton.
