The truth about Manchester United’s interest in Lewis-Skelly

In the last few days, Manchester United have been linked with a move for Myles Lewis Skelly as the Red Devils continue their search for a new left back.

Luke Shaw remains their first choice, but he has entered the final year of his contract, and there appears to be little appetite to offer him a new deal this summer.

United are understood to be assessing their options in the position after Shaw’s lengthy spell at the club, which began in 2014. Reports have suggested that the club are considering potential replacements, leading to speculation surrounding Lewis Skelly.

The Arsenal left back has struggled for regular playing time, and this season may not offer significantly better opportunities if he remains at the club, particularly if he wishes to continue playing in that position.

Manchester United assess left back options

Arsenal are keen to protect their best players, but the club are not expected to stand in the way of anyone who wishes to leave. As a result, speculation linking United with Lewis Skelly has gathered momentum in recent days.

However, according to Standard Sports, United’s interest is not as strong as some reports have suggested. The publication reports that the Red Devils are currently more interested in signing Lewis Hall from Newcastle United during the summer transfer window.

The latest update indicates that, despite the recent speculation, Lewis Skelly is not considered the leading candidate to strengthen United’s left-back position.

Arsenal youngster unlikely to join rivals

Manchester United have successfully recruited several young players from Arsenal in recent seasons, demonstrating their willingness to target emerging talent from the London club.

Even so, Lewis Skelly does not appear likely to become the next youngster to make the move from Arsenal to one of their traditional rivals. As reported, United’s current priority is focused elsewhere, reducing the likelihood of a deal for the Arsenal defender at this stage.

While transfer speculation is expected to continue throughout the window, the latest reports suggest that a move for Lewis Skelly is not currently at the forefront of United’s plans, with attention instead turning to alternative options for the left-back position.

  1. I think they see him in midfield (as a lot of us do) rather than at fullback. His chances in our midfield will be severely limited if Guimarães joins us and his options at left back are even more limited. If a decent offer comes in it wouldn’t surprise to see him leave.

    1. Norgaard (32) is leaving in this wondow
      Merino is already 30
Bruno will not renew his contract with us cos he will probably be 33 when it expires
      Rice needs a breather

      Lewis Skelly is 19
He is more suited to the EPL than Zubimendi

He’s the future. No way he’s leaving. I can bet my left kidney on it

      1. Norgaard has gone already and Merino not going anywhere for a while yet but I agree with your other observations. I really rate Skelly in midfield, not at left back though, but all I’m saying is if he doesn’t see a clear path to regular games and if he can’t be persuaded by Arteta, then it wouldn’t surprise me if he does the offski. I’ll keep your offer of a kidney if he does go though, just in case I need one😊
