Arsenal’s promising start to pre-season has taken a disappointing turn following consecutive defeats, raising concerns ahead of the new campaign. After a loss to Tottenham just days ago, many supporters expected a strong response against Villarreal at the Emirates. However, the Gunners were again left frustrated as they fell short in front of their home crowd.
Despite controlling much of the game and clearly asserting themselves as the more dominant side, Arsenal were unable to convert their superiority into a result. The Spanish visitors, though less imposing in terms of possession, were more clinical in the key moments and emerged with a 3-2 victory.

It will take Mikel Arteta at least 12 months to get to know his best 11. Will we be patient enough to give his this time? Really don’t know the answer to this question.
I thought using the same tactics we would surely win this time. It’s only preseason, not too concerned with the displays.
When the season starts I’m sure using the same tactics with different players will work.
With Zubimendi at DM, Madueke LW, and Gyokeres as striker, Arteta-ball will surely work this time.
Throwing another 200 million worth of players into our rinse and repeat possession focused system has to work.
Simply can’t believe that
1. Spending 1 BILLION on hand picked players
2. Over 5 years of process, project, and patience
3. This is our style of play?
At least Jose’ M. won titles and trophies with this defensive, risk averse football.
Our best player all preseason has been a 15 year old kid.

Same old Arsenal, hope I’m wrong but we ain’t winning anything under Arteta and his pub team tactics, again I hope I’m wrong but I just can’t see it happening under his leadership, he’s had long enough and has failed every season bar his first season winning the FA cup and that was a freak season with covid and all the shenanigans involving tests and empty stadiums, if it was a normal season would we have won it?

This article is spot on to raise the number of goals too easily conceded by us. Arsenals defensive crisis is now serious. The comments posted so far are lame, let me help you out. Having spotted this crisis weeks before everyone else, I’ll explain what is happening – and won’t mention the bus timetable this time.
We are not only failing to spot and stop movement into our defensive space, we are tactically surrendering too much open space to run into. Don’t look to how the ball eventually went in for the mistakes made, look back to the point we are in control of ball and territory, and how opponents first get through us leading to goal, they all start the same, us playing a high line, the ball doesn’t pass through us, it is just quickly put into the channels and teams are too easily feasting in the channels, it’s due to too much forward thinking possession football from us., too many players told to go get involved in it and missing the opponents counter movement, certainly not covering it off, opponents too easily follow the ball into space we have surrendered.
What are the players being told to do? I think it’s different than previous years. Does the Team management think they can go from 2nd to the title by being greedier and doubling down on possession football? There’s a greedy line in footballs defend attack reality you can flirt with, but cannot cross, and it looks to me too much risk is now being taken in the tactical lay out that moment we lose the ball – Jamie Carragher will pause the Sky Pad with glee – too greedy tactical direction to players when both playing out from back, and the all out everyone playing a high line and helping attack, not concerned with the counter.
Leaking goals as easy as this never easy to sort out. We will struggle to make top 4, even if we do get the act together in front of goal this season. We need some battling clean sheets in those opening matches or behind the eight ball title push in just 2 months. A win isn’t as vital against Bilbao or Man Utd as a clean sheet now is.
Now will you ALL stop your wibbling on about forward play, low blocks, cutting edge, Martinelli, Eze – we’ve more than enough cutting edge forward players and midfielders – the problem all this year is at the other end of the pitch. Villarreal picked up Emerates win as easily as Palace and West Ham, not even mentioning Newcastle, PSG – we are too easy to score against. If we start struggling for goals, with all the forward muscle, aggression, proven Prem ability and silky skills we will soon sort it out during season and score enough to make top 4 again. But if we continue to leak goals and not get clean sheets like we have been doing all year already, you can’t easily sort this out. Not even the genius Pep could sort out Man City when they lost ability to get cleanies, even in the World Cup they went out as a defensive shambles – still not sorted out.
Do you want to lose three nil at home to spurs like City did? This is a real crisis.

Your second paragraph is spot on imo
Before the first goal we conceded I did see a shift in getting the ball as quickly as possible in the final third but we dilly dallied on the final ball. What I didn’t like was as soon as we conceded we reverted back to norm.with the possession based control and slow progression.
I’m not too concerned about the defense now that big Gabby is back. But what is a massive concern is the inverted left back. This isn’t a dig at Myles but it isn’t working any more. We are being turned to easy and the opponents realise that when we lose possession we are now a back 3 and the wingers get behind easily. This is one of our achilles heels.
Either we play with a back 3 or not as there isn’t any point playing a left back that doesn’t play as a left back.
I’ve been saying it for years. You could have a prime Ronaldo on the left wing but if he doesn’t have any support from an overlap or underlap then he would also be putting in the same performance as Martinelli.
