This Arsenal squad CAN achieve something special

‘We are ready for a title charge’ by LPKMTY

There are plenty of Arsenal fans that do not believe we have enough to mount a credible title challenge this season but I am not one of them. I believe our squad is deep and dynamic enough to last the distance this time.

Now clearly, a bit of luck will be required but most title winning teams get that at some point during the season. When I say luck, I am talking about injuries and winning when we do not play well. We seem to have got the knack of doing the latter last season (certainly from Christmas onwards)… We now just need to ensure that we can manage our injuries and keep the cohesion that the boss keeps talking about during those periods.

Many fans will still bleat on about signings… It seems that the modern fan can only associate progress or measure our chances based on who/how many we sign. Don’t get me wrong on this subject… We should absolutely sign a quality player if he’s available and represents good value. The boss has already shown that to be the case over the last couple of seasons with the additions of Ozil, Alexis and now Cech. However, we shouldn’t be out there signing every player under the sun, just because people do not place any value on coaching, working hard and developing what you have. I remember a few seasons ago when many fans just wished for a sprinkling of stardust to complement our already talented squad… Well, we have that now with the aforementioned superstars.

As I say, don’t get me wrong, if we can improve the team (that’s the key for me, the team, not the squad as it is already deep enough) then we should absolutely do so and I believe the boss would do it as well. If Benzema would become available as an example, I’m sure Arsene would snap him up as he would walk straight into the first team (as much as I appreciate what Olivier is doing for us). Some will point to Schneiderlin as an example of a missed opportunity and I would agree to a point on that one but when you take the emotions out of it, would he really take us to the next level… Really? Is he really that much better that Le Coq… Really? Is he really worth in excess of £25m… Really?? You get what I mean. It seems now days that if you can run in a straight line and you can kick a ball, it’s £25m thank you very much! That, coupled with the possibility of using Wilshere in a deeper role as he has done so successfully for England, and you can start to rationalise the decision on Schneiderlin. Notice that neither Man City nor Chelsea were in the running for him?… Only Manchester United as they have been desperate for half a decent central midfielder since Scholes stopped being good and they’ve got more money than sense at the moment. You only need to point to Bellerin as an example of coaching well and spending wisely.

We have a really strong squad this season and I think we should all be very excited about our prospects. Just run through the options… Alexis, Ozil, Ramsey, Wilshere, The Ox, Walcott, Cazorla, Giroud, Le Coq, Cech, Welbeck, etc etc. pretty awesome when it’s in black and white isn’t it?

The league is within touching distance this year, not quite the Champions’ League yet but certainly the Premier League – and now that the we have a cohesive unit throughout the club and supporters (there are still a few that can’t let go of the ‘Arsene Out’ narrative… Bored!), we can achieve something really special. I for one, can’t wait.

  1. where has not spending taken us????…don’t you feel any pain when we lose terribly against the likes of Chelsea or man city??…i believe the kind of investment that arsenal puts on the team is not proportional to the profit thats gained by the club and thats why you will hear year in year out how our returns eclipsed all the other teams but when it comes to investing in the team that brings these profits, its the other way round…what is the use of having money just laying in the bank idle while we can make better use of it by investing well on it???…i honestly don’t believe that we will lift another major trophy with mr arsene as our manager…i just don’t see it and if you disagree then care to tell me how

    1. Not spending has gotten us nowhere,as soon as money was spent on Ozil we won the FA Cup after a 9year drought, bringing in superstar players brings optimism for an upcoming season amongst fans, players, staff and everyone associated with the club

      1. Yes, and we still have Ozil Sanchez and Cazorla. The defenders are after getting themselves a giant in P Cech. The star signings work at both ends.

    2. Thank you very much sir! Spoken like a true gooner; not as a butt-licking wenger apologist. The task before like-minded fans is to seek ways aimed at dismantling the racketeering syndicate that have so successfully hijacked the management of Arsenal FC. Only a matter of time, something has to give.

  2. The starting eleven is good but the substitutes are not as good for example Coquelin it will be Arteta who comes in etc,as things stand we don’t have the required squad depth to achieve anything special

  3. Rubbish! Never show your face blogging on this site when the big spenders again put us in our ‘rightful’ place. I can tell you for nothing now and even prepared to place a huge bet that with this current crop, the title will not be arriving at the Emirates this season unless we reinforce the squad with 2 additional quality signings!

    1. True with this squad at the moment we won’t be winning the league, the reality is that we are not within touching distance because we finished 12 points behind Chelsea, this means we need to win 4 more games next season just to get the same points total as the champions did last season

    2. 2 additional quality signings and we win the league.
so if no 2 additional players come we wont.
man..a Little faith in the other 30 players in your team..?
      ahahahah

  4. All top clubs have a top striker. We’re still a bit light up front.

    Barcelona – Suarez
    Madrid – Benzema
    Bayern – Lewandowski
    Chelsea – Costa
    United – Rooney
    City – Aguero

    etc

    1. Can you tell me Twig which center is available that is as good as the ones you mentioned. We can’t and will never get any of those players if their teams don’t them up sale.

  5. Again and again we want to be ignorant.Listen we know about cohesion and injuries. There is more to it than that. The fact is is there a problem in the team.? that is the big question. How long do you want to keep on living with problems in the team without attempting to solve them.Without a doubt you and I know this and we know what we must do.You must ensure that you have the right players before talking about cohesion and injuries. As at now I look at the arsenal team and say if arsenal dont solve their problems it will be worse and continue to haunt them.We need quality in the team as much as cohesion and staying injury free is important.Quality is however the most important. That differentiates a bigger club from a lesser club yes ‘quality’.You must sign players to add that quality which is needed.Arsenal need quality, cohesion and hopefully not too many injuries.

    1. exactly,we have signed cech and everyone suddenly thinks we will win the league, how deluded.Man utd had the best gk last ssn and still finished fourth. Akpom scores a hat trick against Singapore and all of a sudden he is the answer to our striker problems. The level of delusion among some fans and Wenger is appalling!!

      1. yeah…deluded to think that ONE signing is going to win us the league.
Non deluded fans say TWO will.
Thats the difference beween those two types of fans…
        ahahahahah

  6. We are so close to having a complete squad that it would be a shame to just sit back and not finish the final pieces to the puzzle. We are so close!

It’s like assembling a Ferrari and the deciding, “o it’s good enough”, and leave out the doors and windows. yes it still works, but at high speeds (vs big teams) it will become unsettled and dangerous. Come on Wenger get it done. You have come so far…he must see it….or?….maybe not.

I love our current squad. Mannnnn I looked at our Singapore pics yesterday, and all of them look happy and relaxed and proud to be a Gunner. So why not finish our squad to reward them, us fans and even Wenger himself.

Look at Madrid….they have Bale, Ronaldo so on so on and STILL are looking to buy Rues. Can you imagine if Wenger had players like this? He would never buy anyone!

Like someone said above, we have a great starting line up, and even some of our back ups are looking strong but we need more.

Look at that city….in the past 5 seasons they have won 2. Look at how many strikers they have gone through and still have….Ballotelli, Tevez, Aguero, Jovetic, Dzeko….and still brought in Sterling. Call it what you want but this looks like ambition to me.

I hope Wenger pulls the rabbit out of hat and bring in a big name right at the last….I can hope

    1. For a long time it has been the boardroom buying players for Real Madrid. The shirt sales alone used to pay for them, I remember them proudly stipulating to that. Do you believe that Mourinho wouldn’t have wanted a more defensive unit and plenty of the worlds best holding midfielders.

  7. City have spent more on just strikers in the last 5/6 years than our entire transfer outlay for the past 10 years+. You can add Negredo and Bony to the list. Presently only Aguero, Dzeko and Tevez can be considered successes. We are not operating in the same ballpark.

    1. What is your point?
They have won 2 EPL titles in the past 3 years and we have not won the EPL for 11 years.

      1. The point is we haven’t had £250M+ to spunk up the wall for hit and miss striker purchases. You been getting out much recently or haven’t you noticed City can spend in a way we can’t?

      2. and they havent won the FA cup in the two last seasons and we have…whats your point?

        wait, let me trigger you…Girouuuudd!!!!!

        haahaha peace kid

        1. ???…I don’t think you or Man City would trade 2 EPL titles for 2 FA Cups.
You just made yourself look stupid or maybe you are actually……..kid

  8. After Mourinho hands wenger his annual beating in the community shield, that’s wen the old deluded man will wake up and start making panic buys.Just wait and see

    1. Well, Mourinho would be doing us some good by forcing Wenger’s hand I guess. At least it wouldn’t be league games yet.

  9. The only big name transfer I wish had Arsenal’s name on it was Schwinsteiger (even though I struggle to spell his name). I think he would have been a great addition to mentor Coquelin and bring that winning mentality. But he wanted ManU so what do you do? Still thing Wenger has one big transfer in him this window, the intangible boost to morale (a la Sanchez last year and Ozil the year before) will probably be equal to their actual contribution on the field.

  10. 22 days. There have been 22 days passed in the window. What big strikers have changed teams? Benteke isn’t even better than Giroud, and don’t dare say Martinez.

You are the worst fans. I love coming here and laughing. But you are really embarrassing to the rest of us

    1. Yes, Benteke who has been playing in a substantially inferior Aston Villa midfield for 3 years and making more of an impact in the league is not better than Giroud who has the likes of Ozil, Sanchez, Cazorla, Ramsey, Walcott etc to lay it on a platter with much ease for him. Talk about embarrassing and laughs?

btw……MARTINEZ…what are you going to do about that?

      1. I’m beginning to think you are right. I reckon Brendan has outwitted LvG, Mourinho and Wenger with his Benteke signing. LOL.

        1. Yes, I am sure Giroud to Arsenal in 2012 was a masterstroke by Wenger as he outwitted Alex Ferguson, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, PSG, Man City and Chelsea to signing the best in the world at “holdup play”. Definitely better than Brendan outwitting LVG and Mourinho (who don’t need a ST right now) and Wenger (who needs a ST) to Benteke.

      2. Giroud = Benteke in goals scored.

        Giroud > Benteke conversion rate.

A better midfield doesn’t always translate to more scoring chances for the striker, especially since our midfield actually scores goals as well.

  11. 22days running……….. 1 opportunistic signing………..minimum 2players needed………. Laziness on the Transfer front!

  12. Hahaha.I dont know how people rate Giroud sometimes.Benteke is far better than him to be honest. He has just been unlucky with injuries,

    1. He is currently on of us thats why. If he by chance in the future he leaves the club then listen to fans tllk. Benteke is superiour to Giroud. Talentwise.

  13. What people dont know is that Wenger made a mistake in selling Afobe. Most people here have not watched him and will say he is not good enough. He has world class potential and if he becomes world class he would be so good,His strengths are pace, strength and finishing.I wish he was here and i am sure if he was here at the start of the season and given his chance he would have scores so many goals.

    1. Yeah, I bet you watched all the MK Dons and Wolves matches last year and took careful notes.

      1. @jonestown1
I’ve watched enough of them to know that he is miles ahead of any of our current forwards, save Alexis…

        1. He has been at Arsenal since he was 6 years old, youth teams since 2001 – do you REALLY think after 14 years of working with the guy Wenger hasn’t a clue about the him? Com’on seriously – you sound silly/obsessed. How come only Wolves were in for him??

          1. @jonestown1
Guess the same could be said for Le Coq…
Wenger highly rates Sanogo, Giroud, Welbeck and Gnabry. Who do you think are knocking down doors or throwing large sums at us to buy them???
            I’ll wait…

            1. But he kept FC though didn’t he? You didn’t hold back on your claim – you said Afobe is “miles ahead” of Giroud, Welbeck, Walcott, Akpom, Gnabry etc – so why is he at Wolves? You might not rate Giroud but are you going to state here that he couldn’t get a better gig than Wolves if he left?

              1. @jonestown1
He said himself that he was about to sell Le Coq, and had no other choice but to bring him back due to injuries.
And I stand by my statement, because I have watched Afobe roll on numerous occasions. Maybe you should try doing so before you make such assumptions…
                Peace.

    2. I heard we have a clause to get him back. Hopefully he can take Wolves to the PL next season.

  14. Trust me when i say next season he will be banging them in again and again i have watched him you know. Its not like i am just talking.he actually is something special i am not lying.Take my word next season he will be banging them in again and again. You have my word.

  15. it is amazing some of the comments around here, I guess we have to agree to disagree but:

    – saying that with ONE signing of one of the top 5 keepers in the world we WONT win the league
    – but wth TWO signings we will.
    – We need a striker caiuse Giroud is a donkey
    – For all those who say we need one striker, please….

PUT ON NAMES THATWE CAN ACTUALLY GO FOR!

look if it was me i would sign Agüero yesterday! but it is not real…come on…

    1. The early bird catches the worm. Now that it is to late i think that the only striker we can get is Aubumeya, Reus. Just put a serious offer in and they will sell. Expecially Dortmund. They are finished. We could also put a serious offer for Cavani and Draxler but it seems that we are not interested in them. Besides that. I dont understand why we pay Giroud 130k knowing that if we have chance to bring a striker in, that striker will be asking for crazy money. 200k+

  16. How are we going to achieve somethins special if we pretty much have the same team like the last season? And besides that our rivals have turned even stronger?

No i am not being negative, and i am not a hidden Chelsea fan. But its better when you question things at the sart then cry and panic later one demanding Wengers head out of the blue. As if you guys dont know any better.

    1. We have improved.

Gabriel, Bellerin, Coquelin, Cech and our injuries are down 25%. It’s just that it happened over the season rather than just this summer.

Ciry have lost Lampard and Milner and brought in Sterling and Delph. No improvement.

Chelsea haven’t improved. Falcao as backup to Costa with Remy also there isn’t going to make any significant difference. Can’t see Terry maintaining another full season injury free and top form. They also had the least injuries of any PL team.

Liverpool have improved but they did a Tottenham and bought so many players it’ll be majorly hit or miss and they were far behind us before anyway.

Man United have improved the most I think. At least we finally beat them and don’t have that curse anymore.

      1. Mate. Chelsea is 13 points stronger then us. Their starting lineup tops ours and theyre game style is ,,Asperine,, to Wengers football. Not that they have a strong 11 but theire subs are almost as strong as the first team.

Sterrling and Delp are a big improvment to Milner and Lampard. City have the quality to torment every opponent, but they have become bored in winning, there is no hunger right now. This can change quickly.

Liverpool are great the Spurs are nothing. Liverpool do have a good team hands down. they will not miss Sturridge. Now they also have a good strikers who can bang many goals for them.

Manure is the greates team in England. They can lose and go through a bad season but never fall for to long. Last seson the injuries kept them away from us, they played better then us but luck was not on their side. The coach is also very experienced.

Right now i cant see Wenger win the leauge. No chance of it. We need a world beater to even compete. Without one i see Arsenal next seson fighting for the 4 place again. Srry

    2. Come on KGG – throw us a bone on this. You are obviously very passionate about Arsenal and fair to say you don’t rate Wenger much – but is there even the smallest part of you that can appreciate how a team that stays together can improve? Or an acceptance that just because someone buys half a dozen new players it doesn’t inevitably mean improvement?

      1. I love this team but i have no symphaty for excuses. The others are already very strong and besides that they try to improve. One more time i want to see Arsenal as Champion. 10 years are to much. And us not being Able to win the Cl even once besides playing in this competion for so long is kinda unacceptable
