This Arsenal squad CAN achieve something special

‘We are ready for a title charge’ by LPKMTY

There are plenty of Arsenal fans that do not believe we have enough to mount a credible title challenge this season but I am not one of them. I believe our squad is deep and dynamic enough to last the distance this time.

Now clearly, a bit of luck will be required but most title winning teams get that at some point during the season. When I say luck, I am talking about injuries and winning when we do not play well. We seem to have got the knack of doing the latter last season (certainly from Christmas onwards)… We now just need to ensure that we can manage our injuries and keep the cohesion that the boss keeps talking about during those periods.

Many fans will still bleat on about signings… It seems that the modern fan can only associate progress or measure our chances based on who/how many we sign. Don’t get me wrong on this subject… We should absolutely sign a quality player if he’s available and represents good value. The boss has already shown that to be the case over the last couple of seasons with the additions of Ozil, Alexis and now Cech. However, we shouldn’t be out there signing every player under the sun, just because people do not place any value on coaching, working hard and developing what you have. I remember a few seasons ago when many fans just wished for a sprinkling of stardust to complement our already talented squad… Well, we have that now with the aforementioned superstars.

As I say, don’t get me wrong, if we can improve the team (that’s the key for me, the team, not the squad as it is already deep enough) then we should absolutely do so and I believe the boss would do it as well. If Benzema would become available as an example, I’m sure Arsene would snap him up as he would walk straight into the first team (as much as I appreciate what Olivier is doing for us). Some will point to Schneiderlin as an example of a missed opportunity and I would agree to a point on that one but when you take the emotions out of it, would he really take us to the next level… Really? Is he really that much better that Le Coq… Really? Is he really worth in excess of £25m… Really?? You get what I mean. It seems now days that if you can run in a straight line and you can kick a ball, it’s £25m thank you very much! That, coupled with the possibility of using Wilshere in a deeper role as he has done so successfully for England, and you can start to rationalise the decision on Schneiderlin. Notice that neither Man City nor Chelsea were in the running for him?… Only Manchester United as they have been desperate for half a decent central midfielder since Scholes stopped being good and they’ve got more money than sense at the moment. You only need to point to Bellerin as an example of coaching well and spending wisely.

We have a really strong squad this season and I think we should all be very excited about our prospects. Just run through the options… Alexis, Ozil, Ramsey, Wilshere, The Ox, Walcott, Cazorla, Giroud, Le Coq, Cech, Welbeck, etc etc. pretty awesome when it’s in black and white isn’t it?

The league is within touching distance this year, not quite the Champions’ League yet but certainly the Premier League – and now that the we have a cohesive unit throughout the club and supporters (there are still a few that can’t let go of the ‘Arsene Out’ narrative… Bored!), we can achieve something really special. I for one, can’t wait.
