Thoughts on Elneny as CB, Alexis ‘sicky’ and grabbing Lemar

We’re all probably bored of Alexis Sanchez and his transfer saga, but I feel like his latest online post of being sick is just pathetic. It’s weak for a player of his quality to try to land a move in such a shameful way, but we did see it with Payet at West Ham.

It doesn’t even look like he’s that sick either. To me it looks similar to his shameful acting when he was subbed against Swansea. We shouldn’t allow this here and I hope Jens Lehman gets a chat with Sanchez reminding him he is still an Arsenal player.

Honestly I was an admirer of the idea to keep him, but having a toxic character in the dressing room isn’t too healthy. I’d sell him to PSG and focus on signing somebody who’ll be committed to this football club.

Moving on from Alexis Wenger hinted something that I said in a previous article. Due to the lack of first choice defenders, Elneny is set to start as a CB. Look at our starting back 3 for Leicester – Mertesacker, Elneny and Holding/Chambers. Even if Koscielny is suspended it’s still a liability, and if we don’t win our opening two games, you should definitely look at this as a main reason for that.

Lastly on the transfer news there’s that Nice player Seri, who is eyed as a Cazorla replacement and I like getting a player in that position, because Cazorla is old and Coquelin is not good enough so I’d take a gamble. I’d rather have us try our best, rather than leave space for excuses, which Arsene undoubtedly has.

And as far as Lemar is concerned there are 2 theories. One is that he doesn’t like how the squad was sold out and Mbappe could be on his way out too, and he wants to leave, which is a viable one and then there’s Monaco stating the player is key to their squad and they do not need to sell.

They did make quite a lot of money this summer so it’s certain that they are in no need forced to sell, so if we want the player and he wants us, he’ll have to do part of the job and ask to leave. Getting Lemar would be a real statement of intent in my opinion and we should target our efforts there, because he is the future and Alexis ever more seems like the past.

Elneny not good enough for midfield never mind centre, This is one of Wengers major downfall.

    1. neil says:

what is wengers major downfall? that elneny is only a squad player?

and for those moaning about wenger playing him at CB take a look at team sheet today
Sometimes better to keep ones mouth shut and people only think you are stupid rather than open it and remove all doubt !

      1. andydale says:

Putting square pegs in round holes, If you never seen that where you been.

        1. neil says:

its pre season ! where did Elneny play yesterday and how did he play? i refer you to my previous comment

          1. andydale says:

Read what the question said. Thoughts on Elneny as CB, That was my answer does not matter if he played there or not. lol

  2. FrankN says:

I can’t think of anything sensible to say.

  3. GB says:

All of a sudden you’re a doctor are you? It is rather pathetic of Alexis to post that picture but how do you know he is not sick?

  4. CALMEST says:

You guys sleep on Coq. At top form he is the Top 3 DM’s in the league.

    1. Muffdiver wants change...not for arsenal...for.the vending machine, I'm thirsty as f### says:

I agree.. NEVER SLEEP ON COQ

    2. Break-on-through says:

      @Calmest a cucumber.
He’s not intelligent enough. Some players are great at reading play, Coquelin is not one of them. But he’s good in the tackle, and when he has to just sit in he’s comfortable doing that. But he reacts to everything, he rarely senses things early.

And other than clipping someone by a late accidental tackle, he’s too honest. You need to be clever with picking up a card from time, Coquelin is still acting like a prospect as he should know this by now.

Also when one of ours gets a tough time, like when someone targets them trying to shake them or break them a little. You’d expect our enforcer to dish it back out to that player. Vieira would not let something like that go, not 30 seconds later Vieira would slide long and clip that players legs right up from underneath him. Coquelin just doesn’t bother, yet he’s supposed to be our hard man.

      1. Abel says:

And how many red cards did Viera get doing that?
Besides you said “You need to be clever with picking up a card from time, Coquelin is still acting like a prospect as he should know this by now”
And yet in the same paragraph you say he should needlessly hack an opponent down just to prove he is the team enforcer.
You see some of you are difficult to please, you don’t even know what you expect from him except that whatever it is you will fault him on it.

        1. Break-on-through says:

That is called clever, we need to let other teams know they can’t get away with it. Also it inspires our players, when Vieira did it it was awesome to watch. Maybe you needed to be there, it must be before your time, or else you do not like it when teams stand up for themselves.

          1. Abel says:

Funny you think I just started watching Arsenal yesterday. I was an Arsenal fan even before Viera was signed, so your assertion does not hold water.
Let me educate you a bit then. Patrick Viera much like his Arch rival Roy Keane, was a great defensive midfielder although Viera was more mobile and much more skillful. One thing they both had in common which was actually a weakness in their game, was their disciplinary records! They both had the occasional red mist which usually led to a sending off for an avoidable reckless, premeditated tackle .
Its never a compliment be known for picking up red cards even if it was gotten in defense of a team-mate!
How many red cards do you remember Claude Makalele getting?

  5. Top9 says:

If Wenger is still hungry for success, all these saga won’t be happening. Y did he sign only 4 years contract without an option of a further year.?

  6. Dalinho says:

Anyone know we’re to watch emirates cup?????

    1. Break-on-through says:

      At the Emirates.

      1. Break-on-through says:

Just kidding. I watch games on SportLemon, or else VIPBox, and people in here usually speak up about watching BatmanStream.

Official might show it themselves, not sure though. If you go with the first one, you’ll need a large screen, because you can’t maximize it, but quality is usually ok.

      2. Muffdiver wants change...not for arsenal...for.the vending machine, I'm thirsty as f### says:

        He was.asking for that

  7. datladwelbz says:

Why are we forced to play a CM in the CB role, what about Chambers, he had a decent spell with Middlesborough and played well in the Under 21’s, Also Bielik too.

  8. Break-on-through says:

Speaking of Payet, I reckon if that was going on now, his shenanigans. Wenger would add Payet as a replacement for Alexis.

Elneny at CB, only the likes of Wenger and Pep would do something like this. Passing is great and all when people are good at it, but since when is it such a high priority for a CB. Coquelin would make a better CB depending on the height difference, and that’s only because he’s aggressive. CBs should try to stay on their feet as much as possible, and Elneny is good at staying on his toes. But a CB also needs to able to tussle, slide tackle, and throw himself in front of ball. That doesn’t describe Elneny in the slightest, so I have to presume/assume that his safe passing gets him the nod. Unless Wenger is only d**king around, mind games.

Alexis, I’m not sure where I stand on this one. He’s such an impact player that it’s unbelievable at times. If we have any title aspirations it’s because we were thinking of adding players to play with Alexis. But that picture was taking the piss altogether, it reminded me more so of the Leicester incident when he got a ball thrown at him. It was also a very childish thing to do, almost retardedly childish. Allot of fans are now running out of patience, and it seems majority are saying enough, lets sell and be rid. But I’m always wary of AFC fans, they have no qualms about doing a uey and contradicting the hell out of themselves when there is anger to be aimed. Myself, I realise that 60m is allot of money and not many clubs can just write that off, along with then seeing him have the pick of clubs, it’s rough. But I want us to have a proper go of the title at the same time, I’m in two minds if I’m being honest, so, I’ll except whichever one they choose so long as it’s not leaving it too late and they aren’t leaving us in the lurch.

  9. ZEN2OH says:

Seri yes, Lemar yes, Alexis staying? Probably Yes, but Elneny as CB? Capitial NO….Give Holding, Gabby or Kolasinac Chances. if we play a very technically gifted attack Elneny would be found wanting

  10. Mark says:

Elneny is a good utility player, Lemar is likely ours if he is available, and Sanchez must be playing some weird sulking game, because he is a player who plays through the pain barrier and plays while injured, so it is hard to believe he is ‘sick’. Especially when he feels the need to post a pic of himself on Twitter.

He wants out, and I would happily see him go rather than pollute the dressing room with negativity. A decent player that Wenger has improved but like most ego’s he seems ungrateful. I truly hope he resigns and proves me wrong, but I’m not too hopeful.

    1. Rashid80 says:

What do you mean by Wenger improved Sanchez? What he’s doing is wrong but stop kidding yourselves by saying Wenger had a thing in Sanchez ability! He was a beast since udinese

  11. UZZI GOONER says:

Does it mean Mustafi will not be fit to play? I believe if he starts training tomorrow he will be fit to start on the 11th against Leicester City. What about Kolasinac? He’s been with the team during the pre-season tour of Australia & China. I think we have options in that area, Wenger only needs to apply the right combinations in our defence.

  12. Arsenal1Again says:

For over a decade now Wenger has ALWAYS had one CB running forward as an attacking midfielder. Any Arsenal supporter will know this. Elneny will simply be given this role. It needs a CB with a good engine and the speed to get back when being counter-attacked. Alex Song was so good at it that he was switched to Midfield like Emmanuel Petit was. .

Some CB’s like Gallas like a knob actually thought they were attacking midfielders, hence the number of times he left Senderos holding his dick when being counter-attacked. He often blamed and picked on Clichy to hide his screw ups when he was late for the party and the opposing team scores. I hated him as much as I hate Ashley Cole.

With the new 3 at the back system, there is less danger for a forward playing CB and screw ups because there’s still two CBs covering and two wing-backs.

    Elneny will be OK.

  13. John says:

It feels like Wenger is trying hard to please everyone……avoid another Perez situation……..develop ….can’t keep his favorites on the bench……so others with contractual obligations will have to fit in another role………..

  14. lola says:

as a doctor, i would like to say, alexis looks like he got fever.
stop bashing him without knowing 100% he is acting

  15. wilshegz says:

..Wenger should just sign a new and quality CB like Van Dijk or Koulibaly and start the season prepared for once
