Three Arsenal players that could do with being loaned out in January

At least three Arsenal players would be better off out on loan

Arsenal needs squad depth but even then there will be players that are barely used. For some, it will be even more difficult to get game time when all injured players return.

Sending a player out of loan tends to be good for all parties involved and that includes senior players. It maintains value, keeps players fit and for some, gives them more experience.

Looking at the squad, the players that Unai Emery favours and the players that will most likely be bench warmers at best, I have identified three players that would be better off playing elsewhere for the final six months of the season.

Three players to loan

Mesut Ozil

I cannot see anything else for the German, he is clearly not wanted by Emery and he will spend the rest of the season on the bench if he is lucky. There are a lot of clubs that will take the playmaker on loan if a deal can be sorted with his wages. It would make sense for Arsenal as well, they do not want to keep a player in the squad that is unhappy.

Reiss Nelson

I struggle to see where he will get game time when Lacazette returns. I would suggest that Saka and Martinelli are already ahead of the 19-year-old. He was fairly successful in Germany last time he was loaned and another Bundesliga loan would work out perfectly. Why sit on the bench at Arsenal when you can play regularly elsewhere?

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

A strange one I agree but think about it. He is unlikely to get a midfield spot. There is already fierce competition there and he has already fallen behind Calum Chambers as Hector Bellerin backup. The chances of game time for Maitland-Niles will reduce significantly and a loan move is the best scenario for the 22-year-old. Going on loan will give him more experience in a position he wants to play in and he can return to Arsenal in much better shape mentally than he is right now.

There are more in contention for a loan spot. But for me, the three players named above will benefit the most from a loan deal. So will Arsenal.

  1. Good article. But we still need Nelson and Maitland-Niles, because there are a lot of games in four competitions and some of our main players would most likely get injured at some point

Whereas Ozil is a surplus to the team’s requirements, because he can only play as no 10 and he had three bad seasons already

If Ozil still cares for his career and if he still wants to play regular football, he should have moved to a slower and less-intense league. If he stays till the end of his contract, I consider him to love London jetset lifestyle so much and unwilling to work hard anymore for football

    1. That’s a very harsh and somewhat biased view !!
Another manager would use Ozils defence splitting passing ability properly! The real problem is Emery hasn’t any idea how to do that!
He relies on running machines for players to mask his ineptness in reading the game properly.

      1. Please you are the one who is being biased, how many ‘defense splitting passes ‘ has ozil made in the past 3 seasons, I couldn’t believe it when I read that ozil played 35 times last season and he only made 2 assists, I love him as a person because he seem like a good guy but he’s finished as a footballer.

        1. Consider the pre-assists which split the defence. Watford this season for our 2nd goal. 2018/19 season: Burnley at home – Pass for Kola’s assist for first goal, Leicester at home – 2nd goal. An assist is only recorded when the ball ends in the net so his assist creation is rewarded by another scoring. SO Ozil may create but then we have no finishers.

      2. So accurate.. Get rid of Emery he is a limited coach. No imagination in his play.
Bring back Patrick or Arteta.. Most top coaches would be better than this Emery nonsense we are suffering through

      3. Agreed.

Emery simply does not like the player. He is determined to get rid of Ozil, even though when he plays he’s often been the best playero nthe pitch. Paul Merson made the case in his column recently. Ozil is Arsenal’s best player, but emery will not play him.

Ozil was the best player on the pitch against Watford, but has not played since. Based on Ozil’s performances in the games he has played in, he should be starting every match. anyone who thinks that playing Torreira in an attacking role is going to have better results than Ozil is delusional, but Emery has done exactly that. Twice.

Emery has played Jow Willock in an attacking role and Reiss Nelson as well; when he had Ozil. Can anyone, seriously, think either of those players has half of Ozil’s quality? Only if they are drinking the same hallucination juice Unai Emery is serving to the Arsenal front office.

Emery wants Ozil’s money to sign his own players, but the players Emery has signed are hardly world beaters. Pundits rave about Guendouzi, but as a box-to-box midfielder he does not score. As a defensive midfielder, he has no positional discipline, and as a wide man, he is a turn over machine. Arsenal’s most successful spell with Emery in charge ccame with a midfield two of Xhaka and Torreira, but to squeeze Guendouzi into the line up, he’s playing Xhaka in the DM role, something everyone know’s he sucks at.

Emery took Ceballos on loan to do the exact same job Ramsey did; except Ceballos does not score like Ramsey. So why did Emery withdraw the contract offer to Ramsey to bring in a clearly inferior player? He is trying to put his stamop on the team even if it means the team is worse off.

        Even the players producing;

Chambers, Aubameyang, Lacazette, Ozil, Willock, Reiss Nelson, Holding, Bellerin etc. These are Wenger’s players. Leno is up and down; he’s certainly no Alison Becker. Pepe cost more than Ozil will make over the rest of his contract and has produced nothing considering his opportunities.

Torreira is OK as a DM, but he’s small and slow. Sokratis has been average. Davis Luiz has been up and down. Tierney was injured when he signed and is still hurt. Who was the genius that signed off on that transfer? When Arsenal signed Kim Kalstrom (on loan mind you) people went crazy when they found out Wenger signed him knowing he was carrying an injury. Tierney had not played in weeks at Celtic due to injury and Arsenal signed him and he’s played once. Why aren’t people going WTF?

Unai Emery has signed twelve players, an entire starting side and one back up, but most of the players producing results were signed by Arsene Wenger. Why is anyone, fans, pundits, or front office types, in any hurry to let him spend more? Clearly his ability to rate players is suspect to say the least.

        1. Paul,
I agree on many front with you.U.Emery lack the impetus to buy a special player that would make a huge difference in his team.
As for me, the jury is still out on U.Emery’s technical ability to take Arsenal to top 4.But I am hopeful bcos of my passion for Arsenal to succeed as a fan.

    2. You’ve said it as it is, if he cares for his career he should move but on second thought what career are you talking about, he’s no longer playing international football he has a good contract which run to 2021, he doesn’t need to do anything, the difference between the likes of Sanchez, myk and ozil is that they still want to enjoy football and prove a point but Ozil is just too lazy and he doesn’t care about proving any point, I know this is gonna make some mad here but the truth is if ozil fail to move this coming January after all the treatment the club have shown to him, then it means it’s all about the money for him.

      1. Not true. The money is a constant. He has made money for years and will make tons of it for the rest of his playing career.
Think about this he has donated all his world cup earnings to charities and suddenly he cares about the money?
OZIL just needs the the right kind of team. One that plays football not run around like madmen for 90 min.
Which is what Arsenal used to be.

        We must choose.

        1. you are right buddy,I think anyone who does not appreciate oezil is not a fan of good football.world class managers like wenger, mourinho,Joachim loew rate ozil highly but only a mediocre manager like Emery rate him lowly.Emery is not different to Tony pulis cos they are in the same category.

    3. You forgot Mavropanos who desperately needs game time.

Nelson and AMN may become useful if we get injuries. At least in the UEL.

But loaning Nelson to Bundesliga would prove what exactly? That he’s still good enough to deal with most defenders in Germany. We already know that.
It has to be either bottom table Prem or the Championship – even better as he’ll at least get game time.

    4. gotanidea,
While I agree that we shall need R. Nelson at some point for games, I don’t think same for M.Niles. I still know U.Emery is biased about Ozil considering the problem he had with big players when he coached PSG in France. Reliable sources claimed his issues with Neymar contributed to his sack. Apart from No 10 position, M.Ozil played a lot for Germany from the wing winning World Cup with them. U.Emery just don’t like M.Ozil even though they both denied having issues. Ozil didnt play bad against Wartford in his last game.

  2. Why should we work to the lowest common deominator. Same rubbish he did at PSG. He cannot coach top talents. Why does Arsenal want to work with him?
Arsenal should tell Emery to & #%*%OFF

  4. I agree for the of the youngsters, a loan will do them a world of good but as for Ozil, he needs gametime to rediscover his best as he can help bring the best out of players like Nicholas Pepe, Lacazette and Auba.

  5. Paul you make some good points but your comments concerning the signing of Tierney are nonsence. In the two matches he has played he has been outstanding and anyone who thinks he is not a good buy has no idea of what makes a very good footballer. His hernia problems are not career threatening and during the past three years he has established himself as a top class international with Scotland.Indeed if he were English he would rival Chilwell for the left back position In the England team
