Tottenham and Arsenal set for bidding war for Leicester star

It is nearly 100% likely that Arsenal are desperately in need of another midfielder or two, despite the fact that Mikel Arteta has handed a contract extension to our ‘Mr Reliable’ Mohamed Elneny.

One of the most mentioned midfield target that has been linked with Arsenal is the Leicester star, Youri Tielemans, who is now entering the last year of his contract at the Walkers Stadium and should be available for a reasonable fee, quoted as being around £25m, according to SportReview.

But now, ESPN are reporting that Antonio Conte has been given a £150m cash injection from the Tottenham hierarchy and the Italian is interested in bringing in six players to give Spurs a chance of playing at the highest level next season.

The bad news for Arsenal is that the report says that one of those targets is Tielemans, and with Tottenham beating the Gunners to the last Champions League place at the end of the season it may give Conte’s team the advantage for his signature.

But neither side would want to get into a bidding war which could increase his transfer fee, as with similar budgets and a similar amount of players needed to come in, Conte and Arteta will both wanting to be prudent with their funds.

But seriously, why would anyone choose Tottenham over Arsenal?

  1. Spurs are expected to sign Perisic today. We need to get going and start signing players. We should not make the same old mistake of taking forever to make our key signings.

Tielemans would be a good signing, however, if Spurs want him the CL football could be too much for us to overcome in the bidding war.

We do need midfield reinforcements in a big way given Partey’s injury record. Neves would be my first pick but Bissouma would still imporve us if Neves goes to Man U.

  2. In answer to you question: But seriously, why would anyone choose Tottenham over Arsenal?
    1. CL Football
    2. Bigger and Better Stadium
    3. Better Atmosphere
    4. Better Manager.
    5. Finished above arsenal for 6 consecutive seasons

  3. Maybe we should attempt to sign his teammate, Ndidi instead. Him next to Partey would allow the latter to play in the box to box role.

    1. Leicester fan here. Maybe bigger clubs should not have the mindset they can buy whoever they want. Of course, you’re both bigger clubs, but arguably we have achieved more over the last 6 years than both clubs. But saying we should buy Niddi is slightly arrogant don’t you think?

      1. With all due respect, I did say ‘attempted to sign’ instead of ‘should buy’ which maybe does sound arrogant (which is not in my nature btw) but I hear what you are saying nevertheless. I do have a lot of admiration for Liecester city, in particular the way your club is run and obviously you winning the premier league title over Spurs, which was a massive relief for all gooners in the end. Regarding Ndidi, he is just a player I rate and tbh what I say has no bearing on anything, cheers.

  4. They have harry kane and son. They have conte and they have champions league. That’s why they’ll choose them over us.

  5. Leicester will have something to say about this of course. A bidding war would be great for them. Ndidi is not for sale unless one of the super rich clubs offers silly money (£70-80m).

  6. I would not be heartbroken if we dont get Tielemans, even though I do rate him. But he is not a world class player and there are others out there with more oomph in their play who I would prefer. He is too much of a “pretty” type player for me and I like powerand strength, as well as technique At a reasonable price only then yes, but not at all costs and not at too high a price.
