Verratti transfer hope behind Arsenal’s Cazorla contract delay?

I know that the central midfield area is probably the strongest part of the current Arsenal squad, with options like Aaron Ramsey and the on loan Jack Wilshere to come back and fight for their places with the likes of Granit Xhaka, Elneny and Coquelin.

That is the way that Arsene Wenger likes it though, and with the many problems that we have had with injuries in recent years I cannot see the Frenchman letting any of his current midfielders go without replacing them, so the news reported here on Just Arsenal that our Spanish international star is into the final year of his current contract and has not been offered a new one seems a bit odd to say the least.

The fact that the little man has been a top quality and consistent performer since he joined the Gunners and that he is in great form this season makes it even stranger, unless of course the manager has a replacement in mind. Cazorla would be a hard player to replace but one who might do it is the PSG and Italy star Marco Verratti.

It just so happens that Metro has reported the 23-year old midfielder’s agent talking about a possible transfer from the French champions even though Verratti has a long contract with them. Could Wenger know about this and have the Italian earmarked for an Arsenal transfer swoop?

  1. Veratti would be the perfect signing he has the potential to be the stand out player in his position globally and would make an excellent santi/wilshire upgrade

    1. Just to correct I don’t see verratti as better than santi but we have wilshire who is seen as the heir verratti is a massive upgrade on that he is a player in the mould of kroos

    1. yeah I don’t see why Santi should be replaced and definately not next year. With his playing style he can still play on for years (like our own Pirlo).

  2. I don’t know if Veratti is the guy but at 31 and injury prone, we need to find, recruit and school the next Santi Carzola fast. Santi’s injury is one of the two that caused us the lose of the title last season and if we can get a like for like replacement in a younger player, it would be wonderful.

    1. Cazorla is not injury prone.. one long term injury doesn’t automatically make you injury-prone.

  3. Although i’ll love to have Verratti at Arsenal but Cazorla is still very much alive and Wilshere is returning slowly to his best, and I’ll take Wilshere of 2010/11 over any Verratti or even Kroos.

Wilshere is the heir to Cazorla in Arsenal’s CM.
