Video – A trip down memory lane with the Invincibles

Feeling depressed about the current state of Arsenal? Then take a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

There is so much doom and gloom surrounding Arsenal right now that it is easy to forget the good times. Sure, it was a while back now or it certainly feels like that but looking back at the Invincibles always makes me feel better.

I know when I have a little time on my hands and I am watching some videos on Youtube – not AFTV I might add – I grab my boys and show them some classic Arsenal videos.

Those poor little sods have had to sit through hours of Henry brilliance, Bergkamp magic and even the sublime Liam Brady, though I admit that is more on DVD as opposed to Youtube.

Among the many videos, I cannot get enough of, is the Invincible season. I love talking about it, every moment is still fresh in my memory and I feel honour bound to show that to my kids as often as I can.

So, I have decided to stick this short video up so we can all go to bed with a smile on our faces. Surely there is nothing wrong with that.

Anyway, enjoy, it is not too long I promise.

  1. The best team that these shores have ever seen, and it’s not in any doubt. When you see rival supporters giving standing ovations and cheering, clapping, even though their team is well and truly played off the pitch, this is how you know that this team was extra special. I loved how the Portsmouth fans admired our team, made it look like everyone was a home fan or an away fan, I’ve not seen any other side getting the respect that the Invincible received, also the winning team before Inv was a magnificent team, with Petit, Anelka and Overmars. Dennis and Marc were a great splash, flying Dutchman and non flying Dutchman. You just can’t ever give enough superlatives because what they had was pure Magic! I remember saying ..I’m Bergkamp, when other kids would say I’m Giggs or I’m Fowler, I felt I already had them well beat.

Some day, don’t know when, but we will be back among the cream of England. Though, I don’t know if we’ll ever see a force quite like these guys again. It’s amazing that a bunch of guys playing in a sport and earning a living at it, can give so many people a lot of really great memories, it must be a privilege for the players too, making so many people all happy and excited at the same time.

  2. Anyone who’s not impressed by Pepe, ask yourself this:

Who in the Arsenal team HAS impressed this season? I can name maybe 1-2. Guendouzi and Tierney. Everyone else has been subpar.

When we start performing well as a team, and Pepe still won’t perform, that’s the time I’ll be worried.

    1. Did you just leave out Aubameyang …… I agree the others have been average or below though. I think Guendouzi has been so-so.

  3. This article kind of makes me more depressed.

Because we are far from a team that can win the PL let alone go a whole season without losing

We aren’t even the best in North London. 3Rd best in London

    Since 2005 we’ve seen:
    1. LEICESTER, Chelsea, Man City and United win the Premier League
    2. We’ve seen United, Liverpool and Chelsea win Champions League
    3. We’ve seen Spurs overtake us
    4. Won 3 FA Cups in the past several years. Only plus

Looking back at good times makes me sad for the past 15 years and the foreseeable future
