Everton thought they had scored the opening goal of the game against Arsenal when Richarlison jumped high to guide Andros Townsend’s free-kick into the far corner, only for VAR to have other ideas.
You can see why it was so difficult for the linesman not to have spotted the offside, but the lines as shown on the screen showed the forward to be well offside.

VAR did ask show the referee a previous incident where Godfrey was seen to stamp on Takehiro Tomiyasu also, but the official decided that there wasn’t enough evidence to take action.
