“We won’t sell out our DNA and park the bus. If you just try to defend, you have no chance to survive. We will try to be there with many periods with the ball, and try and create chances to scare them. There will be periods where we suffer and we have to be well structured.
“It’s our biggest test so far, we have also proven in the first game and also pre-season when we’ve faced sides like AC Milan or Man United or Villareal that we are competitive.”
Leeds’ commitment to their style means they will look to maintain possession and create opportunities rather than simply sit back. Farke’s philosophy focuses on balance, ensuring that the team is structured while also remaining proactive in attack.
Challenges and Expectations
Although the Gunners are expected to secure victory, Leeds will present difficulties through their persistence and organisation. It is true, it is in Leeds DNA not to park the bus.
But it is also in Daniel Farke to also try and play football.
Those two are dangerous combinations to visit the Emirates with just now.
But Arsenal got the players to start testing the heavy metal formation of 3 1 3 3 now.
I think Farke has done well at Leeds. They’ve certainly had their ups and downs (literally) over recent years but if he brings stability to the club along with finance from the owners then Leeds could become a force in the EPL again.
They are a rare example of a single, bigger, club representing one of the major cities/urban areas. Their potential looks to be huge, and still relatively untapped. I hope they do well in the EPL – but not against Arsenal, of course.
