Welbeck at the double as Arsenal stars help England to victory

There were four England styars involved for England today in their Euro qualifier against Slovenia at Wembley. And it was a good night all round for the English Gunners, although Calum Chambers and Theo Walcott did not see any action.

The headlines will probably go to our new centre forward Danny Welbeck, as the 23-year old scored another international brace to make it four goals in his last four England matches. The first was a slightly scuffed shot that hit the ground before going past the keeper. But the second was pure class, Welbeck exchanging a tricky one two with Raheem Sterling before showing a cool head and a striker’s finish.

Welbeck was a live wire all night and deserved his reward, as did Jack Wilshere who was named as the Man of the Match by ITV. I was really impressed with Jack today as he bossed the midfield and did very little wrong. It is great to see our young star continuing to prove his critics wrong this season and I am sure there is much more to come from him.

And the same could be said for Kieran Gibbs at left back. He came in for the injured Baines and laid down a good marker, getting involved going forward including a key part in at least one of the three goals. But he was never caught out defensively either and he showed that he is comfortable playing at the highest level.

The Ox got a quick run out as well and managed a couple of trademark bursts down the right but he only had a few minutes. Still, it will not have hurt his confidence to come on ahead of the likes of Walcott, Barkley and Berahino. A good night and no injuries for Arsenal’s England stars. Let’s hope for the same on Tuesday.
