Welcome to Arsenal? – Miguel Almiron – A couple of videos to ponder

Everyone seems to think it is a done deal that Arsenal are going to be signing Miguel Almiron from Atlanta in January when the MLS season ends. I must admit that our new scouting team appear to have made very good choices at cheap prices so far, so I am hoping that Almiron turns out to be just as good.

Anyway I have found a couple of videos for you to check out his skills during the last 12 months. The first one shows all 12 of his goals in 31 games for Atlanta…

And this one shows Almiron’s goals, skills and assists.

He looks quite good doesn’t he?

  1. He looks ok but nothing exceptional. I honestly don’t want us to sign this player, i would rather we rely on our youngsters instead if the club don’t want to spend big. Reiss nelson, smith rowe look to have bright futures so i am hoping we give them the chance instead of going the cheap route. I may be wrong and almiron could be a great player but i just prefer us to spend on better trusted players and when we finally have a settled and fantastic squad, we can then take more risks on unproven players like him. I wish the club could look into players like vazquez from realmadrid who isn’t getting enough game time, he would gladly join us, he is a proven player and a winner and is better than what we have on the wings; these are the types of signings i would prefer.

    1. Yeah Vazquez would be great for Arsenal and I can definitely see Real wanting to sell in order to make space for Eden Hazard. I have to say I definitely agree about Almiron, his stats are nice but MLS is probably the same quality as league one at best. Noone is gonna give him that time and space in the premier league. I remember when Henry was in the MLS and scoring directly from corners making. The MLs lacks quality and is for amateurs. I’ll be very disappointed if we started scouting from there unless the player was exceptional (1 goal game ratio or something ridiculous)

      1. @Goonerboi
Vazquez is an established talent, not up-coming. He is still young. Thus, his price tag cannot be cheap. I am not sure Madrid will let him go for anything short of 50m pounds.

  2. Almiron looks an exciting player but we must consider the poor quality of the opposition when we assess his performances. How has he performed at international level for Paraguay? It comes down to a question of priorities as far as Arsenal is concerned. In this respect we need upgrades at full back and centre back if we are to qualify for the Champions League next season and as Lupe rightly says we have talented youngsters waiting in the wings. In these circumstances i shall be surprised if Emery goes for Almiron in January.

    1. Guendozi came from the so-called ‘inferior league’, French League. In fact, he came from absolutely unknown division 2 of the ‘inferior league’.

How do you see his performances so far ? Remember he has not got France call up.

  3. Agree with gd.He might be excellent in a league three rungs below the league 1.
    It would be amazsive game.
Why not promote our our young
    gunners.

  4. Another complete Ozil with gud strength, drilling, fast, strong, peace and lovely shoot.. more comfortable attacking Middle as 10 role than winger. Think he will be great as Arsenal player

    1. exactly, his clips remind me of a young Ozil at his best with his magical left foot.
the kid could be great. definitely one for the future and not for now.
He would be a great buy at 11M, but would need two years to toughen up before he can be ready for EPL.

  5. NOTHING SPECIAL AND WEEDY LOOKING TOO. Poor level of league. Weedy is always a handicap in the Prem.

    1. Whereas Torreira is a man mountain of course.

I’m not saying we should, or shouldn’t sign him, it’s impossible to form an opinion of a player from a few YouTube clips, in a weak league.

        1. But Liam Brady was NOT weedy , as we older ones know well. It is however a truism that skinny frail players have a harder time than more powerful players do in our Prem. God knows , under WENGER WE HAD MORE THAN OUR FAIR SHARE OF WEEDS. OZIL ALSO COMES INTO THAT CATEGORY, SINCE WEEDINESS CAN BE MENTAL , AS WELL AS PHYSICAL.

      1. I presume you understand that there are other grades of physicality than weedy OR man mountain. Torreira is neither, he is short but powerful. I also did not say we should n’t sign Almiron. I merely said he looks weedy, which he does, and nothing special. We can OBVIOUSLY only get a brief impression from video clips. I assume ALL understand that perfectly well. Don’t they!

        1. Of course I understand their are different types of physicality, your post implies we shouldn’t sign him as “NOTHING SPECIAL AND WEEDY LOOKING TOO. Poor level of league. Weedy is always a handicap in the Prem”.

I was merely pointing out that Torreira looks weedy as well, in fact you can add Kante to the list as well, both are very small, slight men who are thriving in a position usually associated with bigger players.

          1. But Torreira does NOT look weedy at all. YOU ARE WRONG. HE IS SHORT BUT NOT SKINNY AND FRAIL. Point is we already know that Torreira is a tough and committed guy. He showed that in the WC and has also done with Arsenal already and in a tough league like the Prem. Not a puerile low grade class, as shown on the video. He would just be a total punt, a gamble, and is clearly overexciting the easily pleased. If you look closely at the scrawny torso of Almiron, who had his shirt off and compare with Torreira , you will see I am right. Short does not equal weedy, BTW!

            1. Guendouzi?
He ain’t going to be lifting players up and throwing them like Javlins but he is a fighter, has he not surprised people with his commitment and surprising sturdiness?

He does look weedy though. Good job we don’t judge book by the cov… Ooops.

    2. Gerardo Martinez (Atlanta United head coach)

“Miguel has a commitment to the team, I’m talking about his commitment to winning the ball back, pressing, he’s a player that’s always working.”

“He’s an atypical number 10. Because he gives you everything that a number 10 gives you and he probably dispossesses players like a defensive midfielder.”

“So as a player who always works hard, he’s never absent in a game, even a game where your team isn’t dominating the offensive facet of the game. It’s very rare to find a game where he’s not.”

      Chris McCann (Atlanta United defender)

“When you play with Miguel a lot of time you get to see the real Miguel, which is, he runs here, there, and everywhere.

“He chases back after every single ball, he fights for every single ball.”

A little bit of reading and it actually sounds like he could be ideal for Emery and his pressing football, gaining a bit of strength isn’t hard when you are a dedicated professional and by this I don’t mean size. Kanu had strength.
I presume you understand that there are other grades of physicality than weedy OR man mountain? 😉

      1. Midkemma thanks for going deeper than a few you tube clips. Quotes from the manager and teammates carry weight. Anyone who watches him play can see the intangibles Almiron has.

Fighting spirit, unselfish, hard working on BOTH ends, and tireless engine. Isn’t that what most of us want? Haven’t we complained about fighting spirit and never quitting?

Glad you took the time to go further, I agree wholeheartedly with your post. How many here would not have given Guendouzi the chance coming from lower league?

It’s not the size of the dog, but the size of the fight in the dog.

  6. I don’t get it when people go like.. “He’s not an exceptional, he doesn’t play for a big club, he’s not a wold class” bla-bla-bla. All the talented players cannot play for the big teams in Europe, that is why sometimes you must have scouts to dig around the world to bring out this kind of talents. That is why we have signed someone like Torreira whom no one knew about but is playing so well, that is why Leicester signed players like Kante and Mahrez when no one knew about them and they won Leicester the league. Wait for players to prove themselves before you judge them. You can’t always buy players who are already established, sometimes you must have an eye to pick someone who has the talent and polish him to become a world class.

  7. He looks to be everything Ozil isn’t. As for being weedy, he looks difficult to knock off the ball. Not sure about those eyebrows though.

  8. I seen a different highlight reel to these ones. The one I seen he looked the business, his passing range looked to rival Mesut and he had some nice goals, but his close control and eye for a pass stood out. He looks to me like he’s intended to light a fire under Ozil, that’s who I think he’ll contest, also Iwobi, he looks a snip at 12m. It’s all upside, today 12m is not a massive number. Mislintat, lets hope he’s done it again, Torriera is ace, lets get another one out that way.

  9. done deal my eye guys !!!, sure KEV did not call this one , nor did he even talk about this chap. so it cannot be true , right ?.unless the esteemed seer KEV calls it then it simply is not true. done deal, yeah right !.lol.

  10. Where did Dotmot get Dembele from? from no where, yet he was a hit in his first season and Dotmont could not hold him down. Jordan Sancho was snapped from Man City’s academy and given a first team role, and every one is talking about him now. What “Big boy” Pogba is today was as a result of Juve taking a chance on him, even lord Fegurson doubted his ability in playing first team.
Majority of arsenal fans never gave our Guendouzi a chance of playing first team this season, but today he is a delight to watch.
ALMIRON would be a hit. Mark my words.

  11. From the clips, the guy is an excellent ‘prospect’. Emphasis on prospect as he is not yet the finished article and would need at least two years to start challenging for a role in the first team squad. He has got speed, dribbling, directness and fantastic technique on the ball. Needs to work on decision making and releasing the ball earlier as he tends to hug the ball a lot.
This is the right level of quality we should buy for the team at that price as we can develop the rough stone into a brilliant gem.
Had he been English, his virtues would have been extolled to high heavens and his price tag would not be less than 30M.
