Wenger again tells England to pick Jack Wilshere

Jack Wilshere’s physical powers have been intensely tested in the last few weeks as Arsene Wenger has picked the 25 year-old for every single Arsenal game over the intense Xmas period, and he showed he was just as fit today as when he first played by being as impressive as usual and even scoring his first goal in the Premier League for two and a half years.

Wenger has been talking up Wilshere, especially as he is yet to sign a new contract with the Gunners, and the boss is also saying that Jack should bechosen by Gareth Southgate for England as well. Wenger said today after the game: “I think he is at the level now where not many people expected him to be. When was the last time he played for England? Exactly, against Iceland [at Euro 2016], he came on. Since he has not played for England and I would say that means that everybody had given up on him. Today, nobody would be surprised if he was selected again. So that means instances of us being criticised for that, I think first of all he deserves a great credit for remarkable strength and we do as well.”

We have to admit that we still wonder if he will get to the end of the season without having a serious injury, but if he doesn’t and carries on playing like this, do you think he should be a certainty to go to Russia with the England side in the summer?

  1. OT: Maitland-niles has really put my doubts to rest about his qualities. How he silent Selah and Moses is astonishing for his age and his attacking sense is awesome.

South-gate has been a strong believer in the creativity of Wilshere and if he manages to stay fit, South-gate will pick him most definitely.

    1. Southgate was right about Wilshere. He played much better in the deeper position, because there is much less pressure in that position, compared to Sanchez’s more upfront position.

The same thing applied to Ozil. He could produce more creative turns in the deeper position without worrying of getting robbed, because he was protected by Xhaka and Wilshere.

I admire Wilshere’s tenacity and his willingness to battle and tackle the opponents, something that we very rarely saw from the other midfielders, such as Ozil, Sanchez and Xhaka last night.

    2. Agree on AMN, I would be tempted to give him a run in the DM role once Monreal and Kolasinac are fit.
That is his natural position and he would surely be an upgrade on Xhaka?

    1. Theo should not be sold unless we get a upgrade. Loosing theo and sanchez is foolish. Iwobi is still not quite good enough

  2. Looking at the games we have not won against the top 6 and I see few positives. Yes, our record is still horrendous but we have:

    – lead against Liverpool after going 0-2, just could’nt hold on to it
    – same against Chelsea
    – were in total control against United but messed it up
    – won Tottenham

So I wouldn’t go as far as saying our whole squad is rotten. Just boot Wenger the **** out and a new manager could work wonders with the current squad, add few players into the mix of course.

So I don’t think a compelete squad overhaul is necessary. We lack confidence, killer instinct but most of all, spine. We are more often than not completely gutless, which I think reflects Wenger. So a taxi for Wenger would be a great start.

    1. Haha liverpool should have won that game with a thumping win
We scored two offside goals against tottenham.
Chelsea missed 7 absolute open direct goals
United scored 3 goals mate and still couldn’t concede after their red card.

Give it up mate.We need wholesale changes from top to bottom.

    2. Tell me one player in our dressing room you can compare to the likes of salah coutinho de bruyne silva ederson aguero de gea pogba hazard kante and marcos alonso.
Not even sanchez is on that level.
The entirerity of our defense including koscienly are leicester level.
      Xhaka is huddersfield level

        1. TATGOONER
you were predicting a 5-1, i guss you were right. We missed chencestoo and we shoud have had a penalty.

  3. Jack had a decent game last night. He just needs to keep fit and improve as a player.

I thought NILEE had a good game. Kept Moses out and threw some good tackles. Apart from the second goal where he couldn’t stop Zapacosta, I thought he did OK last night.

My worry is the defense. To think we almost concede a goal after equalising is simply crazy.

Why do Wenger keeps substituting Lacazette? Can’t he play full 90mins or he gets tired in the second half. Maybe it is part of his contract to be susubstituted. I just don’t get it and wonder how his confidence will be high. Just my curiosity.

Let’s go all out for Europa. I doubt we gonna make it for top4.

    1. I don’t think it was Niles’ fault the second goal.. There is no fullback in the world who can block all the crosses..

The CB’s should’ve done better cutting the cross or intercept..

I agree, Niles has been a positive. I wonder how he feels about his new positions as he has stated his best position is RM.

      1. Maitland-Niles was very quick, Mo Salah and Moses could not get past him. He could be better than Chamberlain, if he is given the chance to play in a right wing position (as a right winger, wingback or fullback).

  4. @McLovin yes Niles did well and mustafi should have been alert at that movement,he was static at the time when Alonso scored.

  5. I have been a long standing wilshere fan and happy to see him back ans improving … My one complaint is that he spends too much time standing around pointing to what others should be doing with the ball and too little effort providing them with an option to pass to often he drifts closer to opponents making him a non-target for receiving the ball … With a decent partner in midfield … We should have bought matic but there must be equivalents out there … we would have that area sorted … Sell xhaka and Ramsey and Walcott in January and we have more than enough funds to get top quality … Every team showing ambition to strengthen today and we still have management after 14 years of underperformance buying for the future !!!

  6. My only concern is that Wenger doesn’t quite feel we are in need of re-enforcements, because even if Ozil and Sanchez decide to stay we should still be making more signings, like bringing in a proper DM, improving the DEF and bringing in one more winger to push Sanchez and who ever plays on the opposite flank. All i have been hearing of late is how we are going to replace Ozil them, when in fact we need re-enforcements not simply replacements. So i really think this team is good enough with a couple of more signings, surely they couldn’t hurt us, just look at city and hoarding players, we need that at this moment and time. Loan out the Coq and lets see if he really is as good as Wenger thinks.

  7. Wenger loves telling others what to do. He needs to concentrate on his job as there is plenty to do.
If Jack is fit and playing he will go to the World Cup.
The big thing about s his contract with Arsenal as he said last night there was no progress and that is not good.
