Wenger challenges his new Arsenal team to prove they now have real quality

Arsene Wenger has challenged his new Arsenal team to prove in the remaining weeks of the season that they are better than his old team – that hardly showered themselves in glory during the first six months. Arsenal are currently in sixth place in the EPL table, which is the same position they were in at this stage last year, but we are five points lower and dropping away from the crucial Top Four and the Champions League places.

Having sold Giroud, Coquelin and Walcott and, of course, swapped Alexis Sanchez, to bring in Mhkitaryan and Aubameyang, it is no surprise that he was asked last night if he thought he now had a much stronger squad after the January window. “Yes” the Boss said. “But that is all to prove now, I say yes, but we have just lost a game 1-0 to Tottenham, so what we have in front of us is to show that until the end of the season.

“We have to perform better in every single game and we have to show in every game until the end of the season a complete hunger, to win every single game. That is what it is about for us.

“Have the players who have come in got the quality to give us something special? Yes – but it is about us now proving that on the field.”

Our new arrivals started with a bang in the 5-1 destruction of Everton but they must surely need a bit more practise with their new team-mates to get used to our system. Let’s hope that the whole side really can gel and show the hunger to be in the Champions League next season…

  1. He says the same thing every season. He is very consistent at that. He gets mostly average players and then “challenges” them to finish in the Top 4. We are 7 points behind Spurs and 8 behind Chelsea. Very Sad! I expect Spurs to take 4th. I’m surprised Spurs are only 5th place. They are a very good side.

I wouldn’t trust Wenger to manage a Tesco Express, let alone the club I love.

I need a trophy ?or 2. Then sack him please. Enoughs Enough. Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan, Ozil and Lacazette is a good start. Now we need a new manager to sort out our central midfield and defense.

Anyway, We have 10 days rest. Let’s make use of it.

    1. If Wenger wins those 2 trophies (EFL and Europa), Kroenke will for sure reward him with a contract extension and it will be the same rinse and repeat frustrating performances next season. I know this goes against everything we work and hope for but, I will happily forfeit those 2 trophies for the greater good of having Wenger’s contract not renewed. We will forever hover around 70 points with Wenger incharge.

      1. Yeah-it’s a tough call that QD.But appreciate your thoughts are well intended however they are interpreted. No cups but 6th place will at least give the new manager EL football.
How on earth have we been allowed to fall like this.

      2. “If Wenger wins those 2 trophies (EFL and Europa), Kroenke will for sure reward him with a contract extension”

If Wenger wins those 2 trophies (EFL and Europa), that will be 5 cups in 5 seasons (3 FA cups). Yes, sack him while you and your deluded like praise Pochetino for being 5th in the leauge and winning nothing all his career.

You and these idi*ts here are very annoying and make this brilliant fan’s site toxic to visit. You should get a job and a life. The earlier you realise that your rants have no bearing on Wenger’s future the better for you.

Wenger remains a legend of the game and if anything he rather sacrificed personal glory to contribute in building Arsenal as an international brand.

Rant all you like Wenger doesn’t get to know that you exist.

  2. This is what our specialist in failure manager does every season, wanting his players to show some drive near the end of the season to go on a Barcelona run

  3. I really used to enjoy this site, but I’m becoming gradually disillusioned by all of the carping and nastiness of certain individuals.
I’ve supported this club since 1950 and during that time I’ve experienced all of the emotions emanating from great teams, good teams, average teams and awful teams. Similarly with managers.
Whilst I respect the fact that everyone is entitled to an opinion, I would dearly hope that any criticism is constructive rather than destructive.
No team has a divine right to be successful. Football goes in cycles and every club experiences some level of success, mediocrity and failure at some point.
I will always support this team and will endeavour to make my criticism constructive.

    1. I’m with you on this. Can’t match your longevity, having only started attending in 1962, but will always support the club. I’ve no time for what can be described as the silliness and personal backbiting that is so popular. This site should stay a cut above many others and ignore the keyboard warriors who persistently indulge in personal abuse. It should be opinions about the club – not opinions about other posters – so boring!
